The Ugly: Update after finishing the last episodes: Either it's staged, or this guy is a sociopath who enjoys bringing out the worst in everyone. It sometimes actually feels like a how to guide to emotionally abuse your wife and everyone around you.
The Good: This is a really interesting glimpse into the world behind an extreme haunt. It's incredible how the universe is conceived and then constructed.
The Bad: What ruins virtually every aspect of the show is Robbie. He's not funny. He's not likable. You don't have to be either, but he comes across as ACTIVELY trying to ACT (I do mean act) like a complete jerk. I feel the camera on him at all times. He seems to feel like he has to perform a role- which is exactly what he states he hates about reality shows and why he's chosen to make his own. He disrespects his wife frequently and encourages an atmosphere of sophomoric "mean girls" in what is, obviously, a tight knit group.
Conclusion: Technically speaking, it's both fascinating and appealing. I want to see the finished product. I'm only removing three stars because every time I see Robbie and his BS antics which border on cruelty, I cringe. Ironic how much reality tv you get between the actual substance of the show. It vacillates between feeling real and just being cringe. It's worth a watch, but it had so much unrealized potential that it, ultimately, leaves you unsatisfied.
