He turns and discovers Patty has vanished, and hears something growling.

At the Winchester garage, John is working on his motorcycle while Mary looks on. He talks about how Millie taught him to look after engines, and offers to teach Mary the basics. Mary says that she isn't sure, and John starts showing her how. Mary finally says that she knows it already and her parents taught her, and John offers her a job when they're done hunting. She tells him that she may leave Lawrence when they're done hunting, and she figures that she should move away from all the memories and so she can make a clean start.
John goes to get a wrench, and Millie is in the office. He tells her that she doesn't have to worry about him after what happened at the VA, and Millie says that Mary is a good person like Betty. John admits that he can't read Mary, and Millie suggests that he open up to Mary. Mary comes in and says that they should go to the clubhouse, and shows them the local newspaper with Baxter's death on the front page.
At the clubhouse, Mary shows the newspaper to Lata, Carlos, and Ada. Baxter died of major brain trauma which reduced his brain to mush, and Carlos suggests that they focus on the Akrida's leader. Lata agrees with him, but Mary figures that if they focus on the Akrida, it will lead them to Sam. Carlos points out that Ada has the deciding vote, and she agrees with John and Mary.
The group goes to Baxter's office and tell Patty that they were big fans of his. Patty says that Baxter was idealistic, but in the last months he became angry and slept in his office. In the last week, Baxter woke up screaming but wouldn't tell Patty why. Patty goes to arrange the memorial, and as the group leave, Mary figures that a djinn killed Baxter, feeding on his mental energy. Ada says that they like to hole up in abandoned, but have to be close to their victims to feed on them.
The group checks out abandoned buildings, and Mary, John, and Carlos go into the next one. A man runs past them and they give chase. He runs out past Ada, stares at her in recognition, and then keeps running Lata notices that Ada apparently recognizes the body, and Ada says that he was her son.
The others come out and overhear Ada, and Ada says that her son Tony is half-djinn, and they ask about Tony's dad. She says that they were young and she and Ali fell in love, and Ali thought he could us his powers to hell people. His hunger overwhelmed him, and the hunters found him and killed him. Ada went home, sick from grief, and discovered she was pregnant. She was determined to save her son and hid the truth from him, but when he turned 17, the djinn marks started showing up and one night he walked into her dreams and say that he terrified her. He ran off, and Ada has no idea what to do.
John says that they have to find Tony before he kills anyone, and they should look through Tony's things in case they can find something to track him. They search his belongings and find bus tickets, and a necklace that Ali gave to Ada, and Tony took it before he ran way. Ada says that they know they have to kill Tony, but wants a chance to talk to him before they do. Carlos suggests that he and Ada stay there in case Tony comes back, while John and Mary see if the police have learned anything, and Lata checks with her contact in the coroner's office and see if she can get a copy of Baxter's autopsy. She tells Ada that since Tony is half-djinn, he might affect humans differently.
John and Mary drive to the police station, and Mary says that she was thinking about how Ada was their age when she fell in love with Ali. John wonders what she means, and John says he has an idea about how to deal with the police, but he needs to stop to get something to eat first. After getting some sandwiches, he goes to see Betty and she says that she found two victims who had died in circumstances similar to Baxter. She couldn't find any other connection between the victims.
Back at the car where Mary is waiting, John tells her that Baxter wasn't the only victim, and if they can figure out what links the victims, they can find out who will be Tony's next victim.
At the warehouse in Carlos' van, Ada and Carlos stake out the pace and Ada blames herself for how Tony turned out. Carlos assures her that she's only human, and there was only so much she could do. Ada sees Tony go into the warehouse and goes in after him. She finds him and says that she only came to talk and help, and he says that he didn't kill Baxter. Ada tells him that she loves him, and Tony says that he uncontrollably jumped from dream to dream, and he's not a killer so he stayed in a dream helped people face their fears. He fed, but only enough to get by. Then he started hearing a sound and followed it to Lawrence, and he found a monster like a giant bug already inside people's minds, killing them. He thinks Ada doesn't believe him, and tells her and the others to find Derek Fisher, who the monster said would be its next victim.
Ada reaches out Tony and discovers that she can't touch him because Tony came to her in her dreams. She wakes up in the van, and tells Carlos what Tony told her and that her son didn't hurt anyone. She figures that the Akrida is killing people.
Back at the clubhouse, Lata shows the others x-ray plates she got from the coroner's office. They show that the damage to the brain is causing three puncture marks, while the djinn gain access to the dream world through their subconscious. The EMTs found stingers and the toxicology showed an unknown substance in Baxter's brain. John and Carlos set out to find the connection between the victims, while Lata looks for answers in the books.
Mary goes to the greenhouse to tell Ada that Tony told the truth. Ada says that she was so afraid that Tony would become like Ali, she never treated him as his own person, and figures he won't forgive her for that. Mary says that telling him that might be the first step, but Ada worries her son will never let her see him again. John comes to the door and secretly listens in as Mary asks Ada if she would do the same with Ali knowing what she does him. Ada says that she doesn't think falling in love is ever a mistake. John backs away, and Carlos comes in and tells the two women that Derek Fisher is a mechanical engineer working on a job and he has Fisher's address. They have to get to him before the Akrida do.
Mary, John, and Carlos go to the basement where Derek is working. They find him and claims that their college building inspectors and the building isn't up to code. Derek says that he knows it isn't up to code because he was hired to fix it. As he demands to know what's going on, the bug creature emerges from the shadows. They run and it catches up to them and leaps over them, and Mary jumps in the way as it tries to sting Derek. Carlos gets Derek out, and John tries to help Mary out but she passes out in his arms and John yells to Carlos for help.
John and Carlos take Mary to the clubhouse, and Ada says that she doesn't know how much time they have before the toxin kicks in. Mary is conscious enough to tell them to tie her up so she doesn't hurt them, and Ada figures they need Tony to help them. They figure he's using the bus tickets they found in his duffel to get out of town, and Lata gives Ada a token to give to Tony so he can past the clubhouse's warding. Carlos tells Ada to tell Tony the truth.
Ada goes to the bus station and boards the bus, finds Tony, and asks him to hear out. She says that she came to ask for his help, sits down with him, and says she was wrong for lying to him and not believing him. Ada tells her son that he's perfect, and Tony tells her that she can't just apologize and make what happened go away. She asks to see him use his powers for good before he leaves for good.
Later, Ada and Tony go to the clubhouse and Lata and Tony figure that the stings are embedded in Mary's mind as well as her brains. He says that they have a volunteer. He warns that the creature hides in someone's fears. Tony is afraid of becoming like Ali, and Baxter was afraid of the boiler room that was in his apartment. Mary's will be hidden in the place she fears, so Tony needs someone she feels connected to. Ada figures that it's John, and John agrees. Tony says it will take all of his strength to put John into her mind, and doesn't know what John can do to free her from the stingers.
Carlos punches John unconscious, and he finds himself fin her house. Mary appears and John explains what is happening, and Mary takes him to a mist filled hallway with a green light at the end.
In the real world, Lata and Carlos go through files on the victims, and discover they were all involved with the construction of a new radio tower. Lata figures that the Akrida could use the radio tower to send out a signal to lure monsters there.
Mary tries a door along the hallway that won't open. John figures she has to face her trauma, and kicks open the door. Mary as a girl is there along with a dead boy, and Mary tells John that she and her father hunted a werewolf pack. The girl says that the boy turned into human before he died.
Mary and John find another door with a sign on it saying that it's Mary's room. Mary says that she can't face her trauma, and John tells her that they're out of time and if she doesn't go through the door, she'll die. John assures her that he's there for her, and kicks open the door to reveal a 5-year-old girl in a bed, clutching a hunting knife. Mary says that the parents told her the monsters she was afraid of were real, and one day she'd have to hunt them down and kill them. They're looking at the night her parents told her that. The girl puts the knife under her pillow, and Mary punches through a door and tells John that every door to any future she had closed that night.
John tells her those doors aren't closed forever, and asks what she would have wanted to hear when she was 5.Mary sits down on the bed, and the girl she's scared. As John looks on, Mary tells the girl that it's good to be scared, and someone can't be brave if they're never scared. She assures her younger self that someday it will be okay, and she'll find a way to open all the doors that were closed to the girl. They hug and Mary takes out the hunting knife and finds the stingers beneath the pillows... and smashes them.
In the real world, Mary, John, and Tony wake up. Tony assures Ada that he's okay, and Mary smiles at John.
The next day at the garage, John is working on the motorbike with Millie. Millie asks John if he opened up to Mary, but she opened up to him. His mother says that he and Mary have some things to talk about. Mary comes in and Millie thanks her for keeping an eye on John, and then leaves. John sits on the bike, and Mary thanks him for being there for her. John says that he wanted to talk to her, and she was right about leaving Lawrence and making a fresh start. He says that she can take the bike once he's fixed it.
Lata, Ada, and Tony leave the clubhouse. Tony says that he might come back, and he heard something about the Akrida gathering magical monsters' essence. He doesn't know what they're doing with the essence, and says that he's going somewhere where the Akrida can't mess with his head. Ada offers him a ride, and Tony accepts as long as she lets him drive. The two of get in Ada's car, and Tony asks Lata if he can write to her. She says that she an, and he drives off.
In the clubhouse, the group goes over the radio tower plans that Carlos has obtained, and Mary discovers that Roxanne's Gilbert's name is on all the licenses as the owner. They turn on the radio and listen to Rockin' Roxy. At the studio, a man comes in and tells Roxy that Mary didn't succumb and they'll have to do something about the group. Roxy assures him that they'll get them where they want, and motions at him to go.
