Inside Out 2 continues dominating the box office in its second weekend, with Deadline reporting that the movie is looking at a $98 million weekend – some say it could even break $100 million. This would make it the highest grossing second weekend for an animated film of all time, after The Super Mario Bros Movie’s $92 million second weekend last year. Certainly, the animated sequel is shaping up to be one of Pixar’s biggest hits ever, which is quite the coup for a studio that everyone thought was on the downslide just a few months ago after a series of underperformers like Lightyear, Elemental, and more.
Meanwhile, Bad Boys: Ride or Die is holding on to second place with an $18 million-plus third weekend. The movie is turning out to be a major moneymaker for Sony, with it looking to end as the second-highest-grossing Bad Boys movie of all time, just below...

Spoiler Warning: This story mentions major spoilers for “Inside Out 2,” now playing in theaters.
Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” continues to bring joy to audiences around the world, dominating the global box office. The sequel to 2015’s “Inside Out” picks up with Riley, now a teenager about to go to hockey camp when puberty hits. Enter a range of emotions that include Ennui, Embarrassment and Anxiety.
Speaking with Variety, production designer Jason Deamer reveals there is no shortage of easter eggs in the sequel. Eagle-eyed viewers should be on the lookout for nods to characters from the past such as Bing Bong, and a hard-to-spot teaser of the upcoming “Elio” is also planted in the film.
The longstanding tradition of hiding easter eggs began years ago. “We have to entertain ourselves when we work. We wanted to have a digital backlot from all the movies we’ve ever built,...

Saturday Update: Emotions are running higher and higher — in the best of senses — as Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out 2 has, through Friday, now grossed $545.1M globally. At this rate, and with so many markets firing, the worldwide cume through Sunday is well poised to be above $650M.
Currently through Friday, and across 44 international box office markets, the overseas cume is $259.4M including yesterday’s overseas haul of $32.7M. Among the offshore hubs there are some mind-blowing numbers. Mexico will pass $50M today.
In Latin America, the movie is No. 1 and in just nine days has become the biggest title of the year — also surpassing the lifetime of the first Inside Out.
Meanwhile, Italy yesterday saw the highest grossing 1st Friday for a Hollywood title ever. The gross there through Friday is $9.3M.

It’s still all smiles for “Inside Out 2” as Disney and Pixar’s animated sequel continues to dominate box office charts in its second weekend. The emotional motion picture added $30.5 million on Friday, bumping its domestic haul to $285.7 million. That’s enough to surge past “Dune: Part Two” ($282 million) to become the highest-grossing North American release of 2024 so far — and with only eight full days in theaters.
What’s more, “Inside Out 2” has a shot at another record, with the potential to land the biggest second weekend ever for an animated film. That currently goes to last spring’s “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” which coined $92.3 million in its sophomore frame. Whether or not it can get there, it’s still a huge success for Disney and Pixar and a more-than-welcome hit after the summer season kicked off with a series of underperformers.

Inside Out 2 is showing no signs of slowing down as it shatters more records in its second weekend.
Among other feats, the Pixar film has passed up Dune: Part Two to become the top-grossing film of 2024 at the domestic box office with $285.6 million in ticket sales through Friday, only its eighth day in release. (The Dune sequel topped out at $282.1 million domestically.)
In North America, the animated tentpole grossed a mighty $30.5 million on Friday, meaning it could now earn a whopping $93 million to $103 million in its sophomore outing at the domestic box office, the biggest second weekend of all time for an animated film and the seventh-biggest among any film. Few movies pony up $90 million or more in their second weekend; Barbie was the last one to do so when raking in $93 million in summer 2023.
Pixar’s 20th feature film is also a powerhouse overseas, putting its worldwide total at $545 million through Friday.

The year has been quite monumental for a lot of films, while some have performed exceptionally well and others not so much. The same theory goes for Pixar, which used to be a success machine for creating high-quality and commercially successful movies. However, the back-to-back failures of Lightyear and Elemental put the American animation studio in the backseat.

But with Inside Out 2, the studio has once again regained its much-deserved spot and has also achieved a significant feat. Not only did the studio manage to mint out a highly successful movie, but it also dethroned Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part 2 at the box office.
The triumph of Inside Out 2 over Dune: Part 2
It’s safe to say that Pixar, which was in the past reeling from Lightyear and Elemental’s failure, has completely turned around thanks to Inside Out 2’s box office triumph.

Saturday Am: Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out 2 continues to keep the box office alive with what’s shaping up to be a record second weekend for an animated movie per industry sources with $98M+ after $30M Friday, beating Illumination/Universal’s Super Mario Bros Movie ($92.3M). Studios will report their official figures later this morning. At this level, some rival distributors believe Inside Out 2 could get closer to $600M.
This is the first time since the second weekend of Barbie (July 28-30) that a movie’s second weekend has exceeded $90M+, and Inside Out 2‘s sophomore frame even beats Mattel’s American girl which did $93M. Last year Barbie and Super Mario Bros were the only movies to post second weekends of $90M+.
The entire marketplace looks to be around $147M this weekend, which is 35% ahead of the same weekend a year ago.

Ok, we’re going to keep it 100 with you: No credible movie awards contenders are being released on streaming or VOD this week. It happens sometimes. We’re between awards seasons, and Netflix’s movie of the week is lowbrow even by Netflix action movie standards. So our top pick for an awards contender to watch this week is HBO’s “Slave Play. Not a Movie. A Play.” Not because it’s a likely contender for the Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special Emmy — it’s too abstract for that — but because it’s about a former Tony contender.

If Adam Aron seems perturbed this weekend, it’s not about the box office (or even his company’s meme stock) this time.
On Thursday, Netflix took a page out of AMC’s playbook and launched its own popcorn line: Netflix Now Popping. The streamer has teamed up with Popcorn Indiana for its new ready-to-eat (no microwaving) products, now available nationwide at Walmart stores. Guess where AMC’s popcorn has been sold exclusively for more than a year? Right. Walmart is the biggest retailer in the country, and its shelves are precious real estate. Aron must be losing his mind.
AMC Theatres’ branded popcorn comes in both ready-to-eat and un-popped form. Its flavors are Classic Butter, Extra Butter, and low-sodium option Lightly Salted. Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” (Disney) grossed $254 million in its first seven days in U.S. and Canadian theaters. By as early as Saturday, it will best “Dune: Part Two” (Warner Bros.) as 2024’s biggest success, and by Sunday, the film should reach at least $315 million.
The surprisingly strong animated sequel (top industry projections gave it a shot at $300 million) now looks certain to gross at least $500 million for its run. That would make it the sixth to do so since theaters reopened.
Buttressed by summer vacation and the mid-week Juneteenth holiday, the seven-day total is $14 million better than “Super Mario Bros.,” and stunningly only $4 million below “Barbie.” But at this point, odds are against “Inside Out 2” equaling “Mario” ($574 million), much less reaching “Barbie” ($636 million). But to be even talking about getting close is an incredible accomplishment for Disney’s Pixar unit, which since Covid struck, has not managed...

Believe it: “Thelma” is the first leading role in the great character actress June Squibb’s four-decade screen career.
The 94-year-old star, whose guileless way in any movie suggests an actor who shows up to set and hits her mark without any fuss, feels ubiquitous in our screen lifetime. Since earning her SAG card in the 1980s and impressing in small roles on TV and film through the ’90s, she received the Oscar nomination that changed everything in 2014 as Will Forte’s cantankerous, tombstone-flashing mother in “Nebraska.” Squibb also played Lena Dunham’s ailing grandmother, spouting barbs from her deathbed, in HBO’s “Girls.” And she’s had roles in “The Big Bang Theory,” “Bones,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Good Girls,” and recently lent her voice to “Inside Out 2” as Nostalgia. Basically, if you need a granny who shirks nonsense for wisdom, and is a reassuring presence in spite of blunt truths,...

Ana Gasteyer, Tony Hale, Dulé Hill, Gillian Jacobs Jim Rash and Sasheer Zamata are set to star in a live reading of Beverly Hills, a soap opera written by TVLine founder and Spoiler Alert author Michael Ausiello when he was 13.

Paramount Pictures and director John Krasinski struck gold in 2018 with the blockbuster horror flick "A Quiet Place." Working from an original concept by screenwriters Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, the film became an unexpected smash hit, paving the way for a new franchise that is still going strong. So strong that the studio has decided to offer up a prequel in the form of "A Quiet Place: Day One." With an appealing cast and an interesting hook, it appears as though this is going to break the genre's rough streak at the box office in 2024 to become the year's first major horror hit.
Paramount's "A Quiet Place" prequel is currently eyeing an opening in the $42 to $51 million range when it hits theaters next weekend, per Box Office Theory. That is pretty much in line with early tracking, which had the film taking in $40 million or more, according to Deadline.

After the best opening box office weekend of 2024, it’s safe to declare that “Inside Out 2” is the much-needed success Pixar hoped it would be. But has the sequel righted the studio’s ship entirely? Only time will tell there, but its continued success this week foretells the film may end up, against all odds, the movie of the summer, if not the year. And Pixar may have known they had a winner all along, as Deadline reports (via EW) a new “Inside Out” project on the way in 2025 (although it arguably fits the model that got Pixar in such trouble in the first place).

Mark Wahlberg and Paul Walter Hauser are ready to get their kicks with a new action-comedy movie from director Peter Farrelly.
Farrelly is set to reunite with Amazon MGM Studios on Balls Up, which hails from Skydance. Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese (Deadpool & Wolverine) wrote the script for the feature that focuses on two marketing executives who get fired for botching a potential opportunity. While using a pair of free tickets to a big soccer match, their drunken shenanigans cause everyone in the country to start hunting them down.
Producers include David Ellison for Skydance, alongside Wernick, Reese, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger and Andrew Muscato.
Farrelly is collaborating again with Amazon MGM after directing Zac Efron and John Cena in the studio’s Ricky Stanicky, which debuted earlier this year on Prime Video. Ricky Stanicky marked the There’s Something About Mary filmmaker’s return to comedy after winning an Oscar for his 2018 drama Green Book.

Does Paul Walter Hauser ever sleep? He’s currently starring in Pixar’s biggest hit in years, Inside Out 2, and he’s attached to numerous films, including Fantastic Four, The Naked Gun, a Chris Farley biopic, Press Your Luck, and Doug Liman’s upcoming action comedy for AppleTV+ The Instigators. I’m sure there’s more, but let’s focus on the newest addition to his Hollywood dance card, Balls Up, an action comedy from Peter Farrelly co-starring Mark Wahlberg. Wahlberg and Hauser lead the film, with Farrelly directing. Amazon MGM is the studio.
Balls Up presents a curious plot. The story revolves around two American executives who get the boot for sabotaging a client sponsorship and decide to use their free tickets to a professional soccer match. After a few drinks too many, the duo finds themselves on the run while being hunted by every person across the country.

Pixar’s Inside Out 2 continues to sizzle at the box office, where it earned a record $30 million Wednesday. It is also the highest gross for Juneteenth since the date became recognized as a federal holiday in 2021.
Excluding movies opening midweek, the film scored the biggest Wednesday gross of all time for an animated movie, and — just as impressive — the third-biggest of any film only behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($38 million) and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker ($32.2 milllion).
And when including movies opening on a Wednesday, Inside Out 2 rests at No. 12 on the list of top Wednesday earners, not adjusted for inflation.
The animated tentpole has now earned $235.4 million domestically and a huge $203.3 million overseas for a global total of $438.7 million through Wednesday.

Last weekend, Pixar’s Inside Out 2 ended the box office woes that have plagued movie theaters since mid-spring. With a $155 million domestic opening, which is the second-highest animated film opening ever, Disney’s Pixar is now back at the top of the box office heap. With very little in the way of competition this weekend, its continued run at number one is all but assured. But how much will it make on its second weekend, and how steep will the week 2 drop be? If you look back at The Incredibles 2, which is the highest-grossing animated opening ever, it fell off about 56% in week two, although I think Inside Out 2 may have a better hold.
Despite its blockbuster opening, I remember the audience’s reaction to The Incredibles 2 being relatively cool. Audiences seem to be absolutely loving Inside Out 2, with many finding the introduction of Maya Hawke...

Since the success of 2016’s The Jungle Book, Disney has been leaning hard towards live-action remakes of their beloved animated classics. While this has been frustrating for some fans, as many argued it’s creatively bankrupt, it doesn’t seem the House of Mouse is stopping anytime soon. However, unlike its parent company, Pixar has no intentions of translating its stories into live-action.
Pete Docter, who has been serving as Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer since 2018, set the record straight about the acclaimed studio’s stance on remaking classics for live-action.
Pixar Stories Won’t Translate Well into Live-Action Pixar Animation Studios
One thing Pixar has excelled over the years is its engrossing world buildings through stories, which could only work in the form of animation. So it’s reasonable to see why the studio heads have no interest in remaking them for the live-action format, as the magic of...

With Inside Out 2 in cinemas, Pixar boss Pete Docter has said that a spin-off TV series is finished and will appear on Disney+ next year.
As Inside Out 2 breaks box office records, Pixar creative boss Pete Docter has talked briefly about the spin-off TV series the studio has planned.
According to Docter, who wrote and directed 2015’s Inside Out, the series – called Dream Productions – will delve into the surreal reveries Riley experienced in that earlier film. Docter also added that production on the series has finished and that its release on Disney+ is less than a year away.
“We have finished,” Docter told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s coming out next spring. I’m not sure that there’s been a specific release date, but in the first film, remember we go to Dream Production to see how Riley’s dreams are made? It semi-explains why they’re so weird.

There’s no doubt that sometimes animated movies manage to capture so much more in their stories than regular ones. Through bright and colorful animated characters, the movie creators usually tell meaningful stories about love, friendship, family values, feelings, and grief.
Somehow these stories manage to reach the deepest strings of the soul, waking up emotions we didn’t know even existed. Recently released Inside Out 2, the second part of one of Pixar's most emotional stories, is exactly a movie that managed to do so – quite literally, in fact.
And if you already rewatched the first part before going to the cinema to watch the new one, but still feel the need to prolong the feeling you got while watching them both, here are 5 more movies for a perfect evening with your family.

Everyone is getting emotional about Pixar‘s Inside Out 2 and its outstanding box office performance. Shining bright with $334M+ worldwide after one weekend in cinemas, fans of Pixar’s latest trip into Riley Andersen’s mind are already wondering when we’ll get another film in the series. While Pixar has not mentioned Inside Out 3, that’s not keeping Paul Walter Hauser, who voices Embarrassment in the movie, from sharing who he thinks should play a new emotion in a sequel. According to Hauser, Jon Hamm should join the cast of Inside Out 3 as the voice of Competition.
“I wanted Jon Hamm to voice Competition or a competitive nature.” Hauser said while speaking with CinemaBlend about Pixar’s latest smash hit. “That dude [Hamm] is a real player. He can be thrown into anything.”
Sitting next to Hauser during the interview is Lewis Black, who reprises his role as Anger in Inside Out 2.

September will man zumindest schon einmal ein Zeichen setzen.

September will man zumindest schon einmal ein Zeichen setzen.
Ein echter Coup ist „The Wild Robot” von Chris Sanders, dem gemeinhin zugetraut wird, in der Herbstsaison als weiterer großer Animationsfilm (nach u. a. „Alles steht Kopf 2“ und „Ich – Einfach unverbesserlich 4...

Embarrassed? Hardly. Sad and fearful? No way. Joyous? Absolutely. That was the vibe on the morning of June 17 when Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman cracked open the champagne to toast those who had worked on the making and marketing of Inside Out 2, which is the year’s first box office blockbuster. “It’s been a while since we did this,” says one person attending the celebration on Disney’s Burbank lot, in reference to rough times for the once-invincible Pixar, where Pete Docter also arranged a toast.
For its part, Pixar delivered a film that has won over both critics and audiences in continuing the story of Riley, who is now 13 and must contend with a new crew of emotions invading her head in addition to the old standbys, led by Joy (Amy Poehler). And Disney orchestrated a marketing campaign that stayed on message and resonated with moviegoers around the globe.

Remember a few weeks back, when there were no major wide studio releases, and how that turned out? Expect a repeat this weekend with only one movie getting a substantially wide release as “Inside Out 2” remains in the lead. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
“Loving” and “Take Shelter” director Jeff Nichols returns with the motorcycle drama, “The Bikeriders,” which will probably get the widest release of the new movies this weekend via Focus Features. Set in the late ’60s and early ’70s, it stars Jodie Comer as a Chicago woman who gets involved with a biker named Benny, played by Austin Butler, part of Chicago’s Vandals bike club, led by Tom Hardy‘s Johnny, The movie also stars Mike Faist from “Challengers.”
Hardy might be considered the biggest star of the bunch due to his appearances in the hit “Venom” movies. He’s also...

Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out 2 grossed $29.1M stateside yesterday, repping a Tuesday record for an animated movie. That beats the first Tuesday gross of 2018’s Incredibles 2 at $27M.
The haul flies the Kelsey Mann-directed movie past the double century point at the domestic B.O. in its fifth day with $205.7M, making it the second-highest-grossing movie of 2024 Ytd behind Dune: Part Two‘s $282.1M. Worldwide was $46M yesterday taking the global cume for Inside Out 2 to $380M.
Stateside, Inside Out 2‘s box office reps the sixth-highest-grossing non-opening Tuesday of all time behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: No Way Home, 2019’s The Lion King (2019) and The Force Awakens‘ second Tuesday. Overall, it’s the eighth-highest-grossing Tuesday overall.
As we told you yesterday, the second weekend of Inside Out 2 will make just under $70M. Rival distribution sources believe the Pixar movie...

If there’s one thing June Squibb has always known, it’s that she wanted to pursue a career in acting on her own terms. She’s the first to admit that she’s stubborn, but it’s a trait that has served her well over the past seven decades as she transitioned from local theater to Broadway to television and film. Her trajectory has been so singular, in fact, that Squibb didn’t land her first leading role until age 92, when writer-director Josh Margolin approached her to play the titular part in Thelma,...

Box Office – Chandu Champion manages decent hold on Tuesday(Photo Credit –Facebook)
Chandu Champion is putting on a fight. After growing quite well on Saturday and then further showing a jump in collections on Sunday, Monday was better than Friday due to the partial holiday of Eid. Hence, what really mattered was whether Tuesday’s hold was good because that would have been a true testimony of the film’s acceptance. As it is, films do drop on Monday, and when it’s an extended weekend, then the fifth-day drop is sometimes even bigger.
Thankfully, that didn’t happen for the Kartik Aaryan-starrer, as it has managed to bring on 3.60 crores more. This is a reasonable drop from Friday numbers of 5.40 crores and thankfully not in that 2.50-3 crores range which would have meant a low first week overall. A number like this reflects that Chandu Champion is at...
