Love and friendship
hof-48 June 2024
Malena, Pablo y Tomás, in their late teens, have been best friends since kindergarten. Together they have a rock band and play in dances and parties.

Most of the film (whose title translates to The Space Between the Two) is an extended conversation between the three characters. It begins at night, at a party where the band plays, extends into dawn and until midday. Pablo y Malena have decided to start a relation beyond the bounds of friendship assuming (or pretending to assume) that it will not affect their friendship with Tomás. This is the actual subject of the conversation (and the movie) although it is never faced directly; the talk is, as in real life is rambling, unfocused, sometimes branching into side paths and deals with generalities; friendship, projects for the future, the prospects of the band, the realities of life in a small town.

This is it. This movie is enhanced by an excellent script that makes every word spoken ring true and by the easy delivery by the actors. I did not like the songs, but I suppose this is what teenagers listen to today.
