A chronological look at the life and careers of David Geffen (1943- ) who leaves Brooklyn with a high school diploma, lands a job in the mail room at William Morris Agency and ends up owning Jack Warner's mansion in Hollywood. Talking heads and Geffen himself comment on this rise. He starts in music, establishes companies, revolutionizes the industry, makes millions, moves to film, makes billions, becomes a philanthropist, particularly in AIDS/HIV, and works behind the scenes as a political king maker. He has setbacks: Laura Nyro signing with another company, suing Neil Young for being creative, and his breakup with Cher. It's a story of hard work and superior negotiating skills.
