A glorious paean to the lurid sensuality and gory excess of 1980s sexploitation and horror, MaXXXine completes Ti West’s trilogy of star showcases for his fearless muse Mia Goth on a delectable note. Like its predecessors, X and Pearl, this is a gleeful dive into retro movie tropes with vivid period evocation, this time featuring a deluxe supporting cast. As Elizabeth Debicki’s ice-cool British filmmaker giving Goth’s Maxine Minx the chance to jump from porn stardom into a more legitimate career says of her feature project: “It’s a B-movie with A ideas.”
That applies no less to West’s latest psychosexual chiller. While never neglecting the blood-letting and spilled viscera of textbook slasher horror, each of the three distinctive yet cohesive films (the writer-director hasn’t ruled out a fourth) doubles as a loving homage to the filmmaking aesthetics of a particular era.

A&e Biography has your backstage pass to stories behind the biggest icons who have transcended the genre. Next up in the “Rock Legends” series is Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider, who started as a high school choir boy before truly finding his voice and becoming one of the larger-than-life figures of the 1980s. The show-stopping performer’s success was born out of rejection from record companies and naysayers including his own dad. Snider turned frustration into inspiration. It fueled the band’s anthem “We’re Not Gonna Take It.” The hit song turned glam metal on its ear during the early days of MTV. Twisted Sister was launched into superstardom thanks to its best-selling record Stay Hungry, which also included “I Wanna Rock.” With big hair, spandex, colorful makeup, and platform shoes, Snider, founder Jay Jay French, and the rest of the group blazed a trail all their own. The folks at Drumeo really put drumming sensation Nandi Bushell to the test when she stopped by for a series of video segments. In the latest clip to be unveiled from the session, the young teenager was tasked with playing along to the Dio classic “Holy Diver” as she heard it for the first time (minus the drum track).
We previously saw Nandi nail Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It” as part of the same “For the First Time” series, but “Holy Diver” definitely presented her with a more difficult challenge.
The video shows Nandi struggling during her first take, with host Brandon Toews asking her, “What would you say is the hardest part about learning this song, ” to which Nandi replied, “That I’ve made it difficult for myself.”
Nandi added a number of fills to her version of the drums, saying, “I do that Neil Peart style.

Charlie Benante is one of metal’s finest drummers, as he’s proven during his long run in his primary band Anthrax and his current stint in Pantera. But could he handle a dance track like the Barbie soundtrack cut “Choose Your Fighter”? That’s what Drumeo set to find out in the latest edition of its “For the First Time” series.
As we’ve seen in past editions of this series featuring Chad Smith (Thirty Seconds to Mars’ “The Kill”), Nandi Bushell (Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It”), and others, drummers are challenged to come up with their own drum parts as they hear a song for the first time. The drum tracks have been taken out of the originals, allowing the drummers to use their skills and imagination to play along to the songs.

Luke Combs’ touring drummer Jake Sommers is the latest musician to take on Drumeo’s “For the First Time” challenge, being tasked with playing “Stranded” by French metal masters Gojira.
Sommers’ main gig may be country music, but he seems fairly well versed in rock music. At first, Drumeo host Brandon Toews presents songs by Korn and Porcupine Tree, but Sommers quickly recognizes each, defeating the purpose of the challenge, which is to get drummers to play along to a song they never heard before.
Then, the beginning of Gojira’s “Stranded” is played for Sommers, who responds, “I didn’t know that, whatever that was,” triggering laughter from the sound booth.
“Such a cruel game,” jokes Toews, aware of the difficulty of the song Sommers landed on.
From there, Sommers proceeds to transcribe, using actual pen and paper, the song’s complex rhythms and time signature changes (a Gojira...

Twisted Sister singer Dee Snider used some extreme language in a recent rant about Spotify CEO Daniel Ek, saying the executive of the streaming platform “should be taken out and shot” for unfairly compensating artists.
Spotify has come under fire in recent years for multiple reasons, including the platform’s profit-sharing breakdown and decision to host controversial content such as right-wing pundit Joe Rogan’s podcast (which led Neil Young to remove his music from the service). Dee’s beef stems more from the former grievance, with the hard-rock vet tearing into Ek in a new interview with the YouTube podcast The Jeremy White Show.
“That guy from Spotify, I wanna tell you, he should be taken out and shot,” Snider said *as transcribed by Blabbermouth]), ostensibly referring to Ek. “When he heard that artists were complaining about how little we get paid, his response was ‘make more music’ — like...

Nandi Bushell is the latest brave soul to take on Drumeo’s “For the First Time” challenge in which drummers play along to songs they never heard before. In the case of the 13-year-old music prodigy, she was tasked with keeping the beat to the iconic Twisted Sister anthem “We’re Not Gonna Take It.”

The Masked Singer now has another glam-metal alum among its ranks after ex-Skid Row singer Sebastian Bach was revealed as Tiki on the singing competition show on Wednesday night (December 6th).
Inspired by previous appearances from Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider and Poison’s Bret Michaels on the show, Bach was convinced to don the massive head-to-toe disguise, becoming Tiki — a literal walking tiki cocktail. Fittingly, Bach performed a song by fellow rock legends Kiss (“I Was Made for Lovin’ You”) before the big reveal, as he was eliminated during the semifinals.
Panelist Nicole Scherzinger was correct in guessing that the former Skid Row frontman was Tiki, having previously shared a bill with Bach in 2006 and picking up on a clue related to Skid Row’s “Monkey Business.”

Brainscan is one of those movies you would stumble on as a ’90s kid watching HBO, Cinemax or whatever other programming you weren’t supposed to be watching after your parents went to bed. The kind that you could tell right away was something darker than society would deem appropriate for someone of your age. The kind you knew would keep you up that night.
All of which made it impossible to turn off, of course.
But there’s a certain quality to Brainscan that felt still even more under the surface sinister than the other horror flicks I was used to at the time. This might sound silly considering the plot is about a misfit teenager who plays the hottest new horror video game advertised in Fangoria and ends up dealing with an almost cartoonish, mohawked, coulda been a guitar tech for Twisted Sister, Little Monsters type villain who...

It’s nearly time for the return of “The Masked Singer,” which means it’s time to meet some of this year’s contestants. And TheWrap can exclusively reveal two of them to you now: Hibiscus and S’more.
Yes, S’more is literally a life-sized s’more from a campfire, complete with a Snidely Whiplash-esque mustache, and Hibiscus does look freshly plucked from a garden. You can see the costumes in full in the photos at the bottom of this post.
Ok, you’re back? Great, let’s speculate. Obviously, the gender of the costume doesn’t always match the gender of the singer inside it. You might recall that last season, “Twisted Sister” singer Dee Snider competed in a female doll costume, complete with heels. So, for now at least, there’s no way to even guess at who might be under the flower and fireside snack costumes.

“Picketing Disney Is More Fun Than Writing a ‘Star Wars’ Movie”: Scribes Mark 100 Days of the Strike
Resolve and solidarity were the common refrains Wednesday as writers marked the grim 100-day milestone in the Writers Guild of America’s ongoing strike against Hollywood’s studios and streamers. Joined on the picket line by the similarly striking performers union, SAG-AFTRA, caffeinated scribes celebrated the two unions’ collective resolve on the day that WGA negotiating committee co-chair Chris Keyser called “an anniversary of shame for the AMPTP.”

Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider insisted he remains an ally of the LGBTQ community and argued those with moderate views should not be labeled as transphobes after he was dropped from this year’s San Francisco Pride event for supporting Paul Stanley’s transphobic tweet.
“I was not aware the Transgender community expects fealty and total agreement with all their beliefs and any variation or deviation is considered ‘transphobic,’” Snider wrote in a statement shared on social media (emphasis his).
He added later, “The Transgender community needs moderates who support their choices,...

After catching a lot of flak for speaking out against sex reassignment treatment for children, Paul Stanley has attempted to clarify his statement. In a new social media post, the Kiss singer-guitarist insists, “I support those struggling with their sexual identity.”
As previously reported, in his original statement, Stanley said, “There is a Big difference between teaching acceptance and normalizing and even encouraging participation in a lifestyle that confuses young children into questioning their sexual identification as though some sort of game and then parents in some cases allow it.” He went on to say that sex reassignment (or gender affirmation) treatment for children had “turned into a sad and dangerous fad.”
In his new post, Stanley refrained from apologizing, but admitted he used a poor choice of words:
“While my thoughts were clear, my words clearly were not. Most importantly and above all else, I support those struggling with...

San Francisco Pride Parade Drops Dee Snider After He Supports Paul Stanley’s “Transphobic Statement”
The San Francisco Pride Parade & Celebration is distancing itself from Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider after he supported a statement condemning sex reassignment for children made by Kiss singer-guitarist Paul Stanley.
Sf Pride planned on using Twisted Sister’s rebellious anthem “We’re Not Gonna Take It” as an unofficial rallying cry and have Snider perform the song on its center stage. Those plans were nixed after Snider voiced his support for Stanley’s declaration that “normalizing” sex reassignment for children is a “sad and dangerous fad.”
Snider — a longtime supporter of LGBTQ+ rights — tweeted in defense of Stanley’s statement: “You know what? There was a time where I ‘felt pretty’ too. Glad my parents didn’t jump to any rash conclusions! Well said, @PaulStanleyLive.”
That remark didn’t go over well with Sf Pride, which released a statement on its website admonishing Snider’s tweet and stating that...

Once upon a time, concerned parents warned each other about their children falling under the possibly demonic influence of the metal band Kiss — whose name was falsely alleged to stand for “Knights in Satan’s Service.” But this week, conservatives are standing in solidarity with one of the group’s founding guitarists, Paul Stanley, 71, who issued an unprompted statement calling expression of gender identity among children “a sad and dangerous fad.”

Led Zeppelin made Robert Plant’s solo career possible. The singer worked laying asphalt roads and gigging with pre-Zeppelin bands that found modest success at best. He found fame with the band but faced a sudden shift when Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham died. Plant loves Peoria, Illinois, because it was the sight of his “turning point” when he started his solo career after the band broke up.

Led Zeppelin broke up when Bonham died, but not only because his playing was impossible to replicate. His irreplaceable chemistry with his bandmates was a major reason they couldn’t carry on without Bonzo.

Dee Snider was unveiled as the Doll on the latest episode of The Masked Singer, which aired Wednesday night (April 5th) on Fox.
The reveal came after the Twisted Sister frontman was eliminated after singing Elvis Presley’s “Jailhouse Rock” while disguised in the elaborate doll costume. The massive outfit was so detailed, it almost looked digitally rendered. But the raspy voice emanating from it was unmistakably Snider’s.
Still, the show’s panelist failed to guess his identity — though they were in the ballpark. Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg guessed Iggy Pop, Robin Thicke went with Gene Simmons, Nicole Scherzinger named David Lee Roth, and Ken Jeong opted for Austin Butler, who played Elvis in the recent biopic.
“I couldn’t believe you guys didn’t get it,” Dee told the panel during his unmasked interview with host Nick Cannon. “You were circling around it. But let me tell you — Gene Simmons,...

Two all-new celebrities in disguise took on the reigning champ, Doll, for “Warner Bros. Movie Night” on Wednesday’s “The Masked Singer.” After a performance of “Jailhouse Rock” by Elvis Presley, Doll came in third place behind Dandelion and Mantis. The towering toy pulled off their mask to reveal Twisted Sister frontman and rock icon Dee Snider. Panelists Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger were all gobsmacked to see they were wrong about their predictions.
“I couldn’t believe you guys didn’t get it,” Dee said to the panel during his unmasked interview with host Nick Cannon. “You were circling around it. But let me tell you — Gene Simmons, Iggy Pop, no one could wear pumps like I did. And by the way, ladies, it’s like riding a bike. I wore them in the 70s. It all came back to me once I put them on.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Wednesday night’s episode of “The Masked Singer”
Wednesday night marked the end of the road for Doll on “The Masked Singer” but, as it turns out, we almost met him on that stage much sooner — like, eight seasons ago.
Despite coming in as the reigning champ on Wednesday, Doll couldn’t extend his streak into another week. At the end of the night, it was revealed that Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider was the man behind the mask. Turns out, Snider was actually asked to be part of the show’s inaugural season in the U.S.
“Well, Ok, I’m gonna tell you a little secret. They asked me to be on the first season. I said, ‘No, this show will never work,'” Snider told to TheWrap with a laugh. “Cut to nine seasons later, and they call and go, ‘Are you ready to be on now?...
