- This thriller takes us on a journey of determination and disparities, as Houston police officer Tamara Haynes, a well decorated officer, has taken a bold interest in recent the murders of women found torched on Houston's South side. In an area already rampant with crime, murders are not uncommon, however, these cases are unique in nature and grow with horrific similarities causing heightened speculations that there may be a serial killer at large.
As a patrolling officer, these cases are beyond her call of duty, yet Officer Haynes finds it difficult to fight the urge to press for any information or news about the cases. A prostitute she knew very well was missing. She's drawn to the killings and the women whose lives were sifted by a serial killer. With her hopes set high on gaining a promotion, which would make her the youngest detective in her precinct, her courageous instinct drives her, and that tenacity is noticed by veteran Detective Valarie Price.
A top cop in her day and Houston's well known Homicide Detective, isn't shy about who she is or what she believes and how she says anything. Her clad fist and iron grit comes with dedicating years of her career and sacrificing a family to solve crimes and deal with death in the Houston area. Death, a looming thought that torments her, disrupts her personal psyche, and pushes her to seek advice from her long time friend, a well respected Psychologist, Dr. Alissa Dannhaus who helps her analyze her thoughts and dreams and gives her insight on the recent murders. As Detective Price's tenure draws near its end, she's hard pressed not to make it easy for the aspiring detective, who's petite stature and feminine frills are often mistaken for being too soft.
However, Officer Haynes is no stranger to the side-eyes and comments that she's too feminine to be a police officer. She's unapologetic and knows how to counter with her intelligence and her physical ability, which often leaves her nay-sayers shocked and corrected. With work-life balance being her greatest challenge, she wants to unwind and enjoy some free time with a guy she's recently started dating, the very charismatic Sean Michael Mathis, who's a Social worker for The People's Choice Woman and Children's Center.
He's a handsome man, who woos her with his charm and the romance is a breath of fresh air for Officer Haynes. She ultimately chose not to tell him she was a police officer, in order to remove the stigma she faces when she does. There was something special yet peculiar about him. She was drawn to him and relished in the attention and enjoyed their deep discussion about life, family and their possible future together. His passion for his job was attractive to her. He had a yearning desire to make a difference in the lives of the kids on his caseload who were shuffled through the system which made her admire even more.
Each child's story brought similarities to his own story, evoking memories of his childhood and Sean's obsessive behavior and mask began to reveal a darker side of him. As it unfolds, Detective Price collaborates with Officer Haynes and together with newly discovered evidence lead them to a surprise twist. . .trauma and irony of the impacted thoughts of the suspect reveals the true nature of the story and the promotion Officer Haynes rightfully deserved.
