Okay comedy tape
lor_11 May 2023
My review was written in April 1990 after watching the program on Rotfeld video cassette.

This comedy tape aimed at golf fans is an entertaining, tongue-in-cheek program. It's no threat to Tim Conway's preeminence in this comic vein but diverting nonetheless.

Show has stood the test of time, having been taped at a charity event (fundraiser for local multiple sclerosis society) in 1985 in Pittsburgh. Avoidance of topical humor is a plus.

Hosted by comic Bobby Kelton, who doubles as Peter Cappelino among the duffers, displays the dubious but funny talents of diehard golfers who just happen to stink. They've got to play 21 rounds a year and have handicaps of at least 36.

What makes it funny is that these guys are really trying to hit the ball well, rather than intentionally screwing up. To be fair, reverse champ Angelo Spagnola (who organized the fundraising tournament) is shown getting off one excellent shot. However, he notes that he once registered a record 66 strokes on one hole in a tournament because of hazards.
