It’s time to take a trip down memory lane. We’re going to try to remember all the way back to 2013, when it was announced that Charlie Kaufman would be working with FX on a new series titled “How and Why.” The series seemed to be the same sort of strange mindfuck that you probably expect from the creator. However, a year later, FX passed on the series.

Unless your name is Edgar Wright, it’s hard to imagine a superhero movie of any caliber and pedigree not somehow getting made in today’s day and age.
And yet in 1997, that’s exactly what happened. Tim Burton, many years after the success of his original Batman, was attached to direct Superman Lives, originally starring none other than Nicolas Cage as everyone’s favorite Kryptonian and adapted from a screenplay by Kevin Smith.
Just how in God’s green Earth did this brilliant, strange mash-up of talents in a movie never come to light is the question behind a documentary currently in production, The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?

Intruders
BBC America has unveiled an extended trailer for its new sci-fi series "Intruders" starring John Simm, Mira Sorvino, Robert Forester and James Frain. Almost David Lynch-ian in its flat out cryptic nature and obtuseness, it kind of looks like an "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" update.
Houdini
History has announced that its miniseries "Houdini," starring Adrien Brody as the famed illusionist, will have a two-night premiere on September 1st and 2nd at 9pm Us-et/Pt.
The event miniseries follows the epic tales of Harry Houdini as he emerges as America’s first bonafide world-renowned superstar.

Marcella Plunkett (Dark Touch) has been booked as a recurring on FX‘s How And Why, from Oscar-winning screenwriter Charlie Kaufman (Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, Being John Malkovich). It tells the story of Goodman Hesselman (John Hawkes), who can explain how and why a nuclear reactor works but is clueless about life. After losing his gig hosting children’s science show How And Why, he tries to start over with a new show in a little TV market in the middle of nowhere when he encounters the supernatural world. We hear Plunkett is playing two roles, Cynthia, a photographer at Goodman’s new TV station in Murfreesboro, and Magda, Mendelson’s (Michael Cera) secretary, whose day is spent in a cramped, tiny room, not much bigger than her desk. Plunkett is with Radius Entertainment and Lisa Richards Agency in Ireland. Newcomer Sofia Mattsson has been cast in the...

FX knows how to accumulate good TV watching: Archer, Louie, The League, It’s Always Sunny, The Bridge, Wilfred, American Horror Story, and Justified. Today I’ve read [Via EW] about Michael Cera and John Hawkes leading a Charlie Kaufman’s FX comedy pilot How And Why, the “story of a man who can explain how and why a nuclear reactor works, but is clueless about life”. Now we learn that Zach Galifianakis will be leading will star in an untitled comedy pilot from executive producer Louis C.K., which is the first project under C.K.’s recent development deal with the network. Details are unknown but Galifianakis created the potential series and will co-write the pilot script with C.K.

Tuesday morning FX announced that it has ordered a pilot from comedian Zach Galifianakis. The pilot will be co-written and executive produced by the “Hangover” star and Louis C.K., who is bringing it to the basic cable network as part of an overall deal with C.K. and his production company Pig Newton. Although FX’s “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia“ and “Archer” are a ratings successes for FX, C.K.’s comedy “Louie” is one of its prestige series, having earned massive critical acclaim along with a Golden Globe nomination, a Peabody Award and a Emmy award for Melissa Leo’s guest star appearance in 2013, as well as a writing Emmy in 2012.
FX’s production arm has 12 comedy pilots currently in production, including “How and Why,” a comedy from Adaptation screenplay writer Charlie Kaufman, which just added Michael Cera and John Hawkes to it cast.

It has been six years since we've had anything on any screen from the mind of Charlie Kaufman. It was 2008 when he delivered "Synecdoche, New York" and since then, while the promise of this Hollywood satire/musical "Frank Or Francis" has been teased, it has yet to find the momentum or money/support to get made. But once again, television is giving someone of Kaufman's unique talent a place to flourish. Last spring came word that over at FX, Kaufman was writing a TV series called "How And Why," but there were few other details. But today, not only does it have stars but we now know a little of what it's all about. Deadline reports that Michael Cera and John Hawkes have signed on to star in the half-hour comedy show. The premise? The series will follow a man clueless about life, yet who is smart enough to explain...

After lengthy negotiations, John Hawkes and Michael Cera have signed on to topline How And Why, FX Networks‘ half-hour comedy pilot from Oscar-winning screenwriter Charlie Kaufman. How And Why tells the story of Goodman Hesselman (Hawkes), who can explain how and why a nuclear reactor works but is clueless about life. After losing his gig hosting children’s science show How And Why, he tries to start over with a new show in a little TV market in the middle of nowhere when he encounters the supernatural world. Cera plays Mendelson, Goodman’s new boss at the studio. Even though they legally cannot use any part of How And Why, Mendelson is confident they will replicate the show. Produced by FX Productions, the pilot will film this spring in North Carolina. Kaufman (Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind) wrote the script and will direct the pilot, which he is executive producing with Anthony Bregman.

FX has given a pilot greenlight to Bigfoot, an animated comedy series based on Graham Roumieu’s faux Bigfoot autobiography graphic novels In Me Own Words, Me Write Book, And I Not Dead. Written by Matt McKenna (American Dad) and executive produced by Seth Rogen, the FX Prods-produced project revolves around Bigfoot, everyone’s favorite crypto-zoological hominid, as a modern-day everyman who struggles with life’s philosophical quandaries as well as his own animalistic tendencies. “This will be the greatest show about an animated Bigfoot ever made,” Rogen said. Executive producing the pilot are McKenna; Point Grey Pictures’ Rogen and Evan Goldberg; Roumieu; Mosaic’s Jimmy Miller and Sam Hansen; and Floyd County Prods’ Adam Reed and Matt Thompson. Animation remains a priority for FX, which has been looking to expand its offerings beyond hit Archer and has new animated series Chosen, exec produced by Danny McBride, launching on Fxx.
