Here’s Where Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Hitman & Madame Web Lie On Netflix Weekly Global Top 10 List ( Photo Credit – YouTube )
Netflix is one of the most popular streaming networks with vast content. Some fan-favorite films find their home on the Ott platform, while some arrive for a limited time. Netflix releases the top 10 global list weekly, revealing the most watched movies weekly. The latest list for the week of June 17-June 23 sees Madame Web’s return while Hit Man and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One slip from the top 3 positions.
The Tom Cruise-led Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One was released in the theatres last year and did not have a satisfactory box office result due to the release of Oppenheimer and Barbie around the same time. However, Tom is already filming Mission: Impossible 8, and according to reports, the film’s alleged budget is over $300 million.

John Krasinski’s “If” (Paramount) needs strong post-theatrical results to make it a success. Initial results from PVOD ($19.99 rental), which reached #1 right away at both iTunes and Fandango, suggest it is headed in the right direction.
In the short term, it might be able to sustain that pace; its main competition will be this week’s release of the underperforming “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.” More critical is whether it can sustain multiple weeks at higher levels. With a $110 million before-marketing cost, $180 million in worldwide gross needs supplementing.
Richard Linklater’s “Hit Man” is sustaining its run. Netflix’s $20 million worldwide acquisition, after an above-average 10 days as #1 on its top 10 movie viewing chart, is still at #2. “Trigger Warning,” a far less-acclaimed Netflix original, is currently #1. The action/thriller title, which stars Jessica Alba and is the American debut for Indonesian director Mouly Surya, was filmed nearly three years ago.

In the documentary Tell Them You Love Me, a relationship between a married white professor and a Black man with cerebral palsy sparks controversy when the man’s mother alleges that her son is incapable of consent — leading to a nationwide debate over power dynamics, disability, and race. Directed by Nick August-Perna (The Swell Season) and executive produced by Louis Theroux (My Scientology Movie) and Arron Fellows (Louis Theroux Interviews ... ) for Mindhouse (Can I Tell You a Secret?), the film documents the true story of Anna Stubblefield and Derrick Johnson.
“It’s a complex film about some very nuanced ideas,” August-Perna tells Tudum. “For me, it’s about people who became enmeshed in a tragedy together.”
“I came to this story originally via a New York Times article, maybe 10 years ago, and I was riveted by it,” Theroux tells Tudum. “It sat on the fault lines of so many...

Things change quite quickly in Netflix’s global top, and this week seems to have marked the end of the overall triumph for Glen Powell’s brand new action movie Hit Man that’s been dominating the US top 10 chart ever since its digital release a couple of weeks ago.
Though the film was expected to be dethroned by some other hit coming to the platform soon, Hit Man was actually beaten by a very unexpected flick recounting an eerie real-life story that shook the American society up back in 2015.
One of Netflix’s most recent arrivals, a 2023 documentary titled Tell Them You Love Me, landed on the streaming platform less than a week ago, yet has already succeeded in getting Netflix viewers glued to their screens.

Richard Linklater’s “Hit Man” is a certified hit for Netflix, and a rare one: It’s an original film that’s critically acclaimed as well as a popular success.
Meanwhile on PVOD, Warner Bros.’ “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” dominated “Godzilla Minus One” (Toho) not only in theaters (more than three times the gross) but also in home interest.
“Civil War” (A24) is #1 again at iTunes in its fourth week of availability (#2 at Fandango), a remarkably strong showing for a film with a strong but sub-$70 million domestic box office take.
“Hit Man” has led Netflix’s most-watched movie list for 10 days, the first film to do so since 2023 Netflix production “Leave the World Behind” starring Julia Roberts; it held the spot for 13 days last December. We await word on actual viewing minutes, which it recently touted for “Atlas” with Jennifer Lopez. Already, “Hit Man” has more days...

There is no doubt that Netflix is now dominating the true crime scene with its documentaries that shock the curious audience. Indeed, every month the platform’s catalog is added by a number of worth-watching docufilms that can creep you out.
The upcoming documentary is no exception here — it’s really a captivating, yet extremely hard watch. Even though there are no murders, kidnappings or robberies, the movie is scary due to its exploration of society’s most painful issues.
It starts by introducing us to Anna Stubblefield, a respected university professor who seems to be happy in her marriage and occupation. Her life turns upside down when she meets Derrick Johnson, who is 11 years her junior, but not only that.
The point is, Jonhson, a black nonverbal man, was diagnosed with severe cognitive disabilities in his early childhood. Stubblefield decides to teach him to communicate using a keyboard, and...

Exclusive: CNN has picked up Sky’s BAFTA-winning Lockerbie doc series from Louis Theroux’s Mindhouse.
Lockerbie examines what was the deadliest terror attack on the U.S. before 9/11 on its 35th anniversary. The 1988 bombing of flight Pan Am 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, led to the deaths of 270 people, 190 of whom were U.S. citizens. With access to victims’ families, investigators, intelligence officers and other key figures who had not spoken until now, the series follows the disaster from start to end and profiles who was responsible.
Lockerbie was produced by Theroux, Nancy Strang and Arron Fellows’ Mindhouse in association with Sky Studios. Directed by John Dower, it beat off competition from another Sky show, Dublin Narcos, along with Channel 4’s Evacuation and the BBC’s Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland to scoop the BAFTA for Factual Series.

For the perpetually impecunious (see: poor) indie filmmaker, a well-executed short or feature project can often be your best passport to the larger world. Left to our own scant devices, our calendars are unlikely to fill up with myriad jaunts to such exotic locales as Cannes, Venice, Locarno or, erm, Arkansas. But with a piping hot Dcp in hand, you not have not just an excuse to visit such places but an invitation. And few American cities are quite as dreamily summoned in the mind as day-glow Miami. After all: if it’s good enough for LeBron James, it’s good enough for us.
For 41 years, the Miami Film Festival has been showcasing innovative, inclusive work from new and emerging independent creators worldwide. Unsurprisingly, many of said creators are our own beloved Film Independent Fellows. In fact, a whopping 38 Fi Fellows will be in the Magic City next week to show new work,...

Exclusive: Tell Them You Love Me explores the story of a controversial affair between Anna Stubblefield, a white university professor, and Derrick Johnson, a non-verbal Black man with cerebral palsy. Stubblefield claimed she and Johnson had fallen in love, but when his family found out about their intimate relationship, she was arrested, and in 2015 stood trial facing charges of aggravated sexual assault.
Ahead of the film bowing on Sky, filmmaker Nick August-Perna sat down with Deadline, alongside Louis Theroux and Arron Fellows, who produced through their Mindhouse banner. The trio spoke about bringing such a multi-faceted story to the screen, capturing both sides authentically, and why festivals just didn’t get it.
“It’s not often that a story comes along that has so many equal parts that are tugging at each other very forcefully, whether it be race or disability or gender,” August-Perna says about the feature documentary.

Exclusive: A two-part Netflix documentary from Louis Theroux’s production biz will tell the story of the victims of a prolific UK cyberstalker and how they ultimately helped bring him to justice.
Dropping on Netflix globally on February 21, Can I Tell You A Secret? will tell the harrowing real-life story of the victims of serial cyberstalker Matthew Hardy. Told using testimony from the women, it will detail the terrifying and sustained online harassment they endured and how his crimes tore lives apart.
In January 2022, Hardy was jailed for nine years, the longest sentence ever doled out in the UK for online stalking. The court heard how he would create fake social media accounts before contacting people with the beguiling message, ‘Can I tell you a secret?’ He went on to send messages to victims and their friends and family that sowed discord and created heartache, frequently with horrible consequences.

There were no clear Oscar signals coming out of the 31st Hamptons International Film Festival. Still, there were some admirable stats for the eastern Long Island event that’s a favorite with filmmakers and locals. This year Hiff screened a lineup of films that were 49% female-directed and represented 42 countries from around the world. The festival had a record number of submissions this year and screened 72 features and 46 shorts with eight world premieres, three North American premieres, 12 US premieres, 13 East Coast premieres, and seven New York premieres.
