We always knew there were a few dirty officers here and there. Some were a bit shady, some had affairs, some turned blind eyes and some were full on bent. But in this episode the extent of corruption is fully revealed.
Arnott, with his tarnished record in terrorism, has affairs with coworkers and witnesses, and looks like he messed up big time by holding off on Akers.
Fleming has an affair with her (dead) partner's (corrupt?) husband and is conducting private interviews off-tape trying to cover her tracks. Arnott is also guilty in hiding Fleming's secret and helping her cover up.
Dryden not only leaks information to the press and lies to cover up his speeding ticket, but is deeply involved in the ambush itself.
Hastings is in deep financial troubles, did not disclose this to the police, and appears to be affected by his personal problems. He was bloodthirsty against Gates, but is very reserved when going against Dryden because of a potential promotion.
Hargreaves is sitting on evidence, not in the territorial way of wanting it for himself, but completely hiding evidence.
Cottan is a dirty officer and has been from the start of his career.
Akers has 20k in cash, no one knows where from.
Linsdsay is starting to appear innocent after all, but she actually did assault Fleming and her neighbor.
The prison system, shown in previous episodes, is corrupt, with corrections officers assaulting prisoners and the state turning a blind eye or blaming the victim, in this case, Lindsay, herself, accusing her of self-harm and possibly magic, how she was able to pour boiling water on both hands while holding the kettle. The fact that that was not explored is a weak point for me. Lindsay did not even say "How could I physically do it?"
Then there are two officers that have kidnapped Lindsay, possibly killing the corrections officers/guards on route.
It's starting to look like Gates may have been the cleanest officer in this station.
A top, top episode of a top show.
