- We open at the diner. Santana talks about her career not going anyplace at the moment and Rachel says she's been invited to appear on the cover of New York Magazine. She invites Santana to come along and be one of the model in the background.
Tina tells Artie she's not sure about her future. She's been waitlisted at Brown, the only out-of-state school to which she applied. The two talk about their friendship, which leads to a performance of "Whenever I Call You Friend." Afterwards Becky walks in and says Sue wants to see Tina and Artie.
Sue tells Tin and Artie they have tied for valedictorian in every possible way. The plan to break the tie is for them to give the speech to a panel, with the best speech getting the honor.
Rachel and Santana arrive at the photo shoot. The sing "Brave" and Santana eventually joins the picture.
Since Artie knows he's attending film school, Tina thinks he should help her win since she needs it for Brown. He doesn't agree. This leads to a fight where they both rip each other and get pretty personal.
Kurt calls Blaine and tells him he's concerned Starchild is attempting to take over the band. The plan is for Kurt to get as close to him as possible. Rachel is getting nervous because they are auditioning her understudy.
Will tells the kids they need to figure out who gets the second solo for nationals. Tina and Artie both say they want it. This competition takes the form of them singing "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)." Towards the end Tina gets so angry she shoves Artie out of his chair.
Kurt and Starchild discuss his background. Starchild mentions playing the guitar and says he thinks Kurt should try the instrument.
After several mediocre understudy auditions Rachel is stunned when Santana walks out. She sings "Don't Rain On My Parade" and Rupert absolutely loves her. He can't believe it afterwards when Santana says they attended the same high school.
At a music store Kurt and Starchild sing "I Believe In A Thing Called Love."
Santana comes home and immediately a fight breaks out with her and Rachel. They both some pretty terrible things about each other. Santana talks about how much better she is and Rachel slaps her. Rachel says Santana should move out. Santana then gets a call that she got the part as Rachel's understudy.
During the valedictorian "speech off" both Tina and Artie says amazing thinks about the other one and argue they shouldn't get it.
Santana and Rachel fight at the theater. Rupert walks in and says there is media there and he wants to play up the story of the two friends from Ohio making it big in New York. He thinks they'll be bigger stars together. During practice they sing "Every Breath You Take."
Starchild tells Kurt he knows he's been so nice to him because he's worried he is trying to take over the band. Starchild promises he's not trying to do that and the two guys seems to bond. They take a selfie to commemorate the moment and Starchild pretends to kiss him.
Sue tells Artie and Tina they split the vote, meaning the third-place student, Blaine, will be named valedictorian. Becky walks over and shows him the picture of Kurt and Starchild from a social media page.
At the next day's practice Blaine tells the kids he wants to sing a song at graduation instead of giving a speech. He invites Tina and Artie to join him.
Rachel and Santana think one of them needs to leave the apartment. Rachel thinks Santana is trying to "poison" her big break. Eventually Rachel says she's going to leave.
Blaine, Artie and Tina sing "Breakaway" and we see shots of Rachel packing. On her way out she rips up a picture of her and Santana.
