Good overview of the Northern Soul scene
Red-Barracuda6 June 2022
Interesting music history doc about the Northern Soul scene. A time where for a short time the centre of the musical universe was...Wigan! This film documents the rise and fall of this scene, a scene which revolved around clubs playing obscure soul records imported from the U. S. It may not sound like much but in the musical context of the mid 70's, this would be like the equivalent of the house music scene of the late 80's, seeing as the average music of the time in Britain was somewhat uneven for the most part. We hear from many of the participants and see priceless footage from the era, mainly of guys with bad haircuts and terrible clobber doing acrobatics on the wooden dancefloor of the Wigan Casino. Its a good story and documents a fascinating corner of the British musical underground.
