nice family and children film
mr-rob-c28 February 2016
you will think, why he write a positive rewiev and give only 6 stars... because the picture looks cheap, the acting is really bad, and at least....at no time the horse is building a relationship to the buy, which i think is important for the story, because it is the son, so for me it would have been nice, if the horse have for example pushed him with his head to show him he like him....

so this is my review as an adult, and for me, BUT this all not matters, because anyway it is a sweet family and children film, about hope, believing, friendship and god

therefore I recommend it anyway

greetings from cologne, and sorry for my English ,-)

Sub par acting and choppy cuts oh my
nathanzwier1 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Terrible movie, didn't enjoy it in the slightest. The cast was quite bad. A lot of the dialogue felt very unnatural. (Possible spoiler): The mom that dies looks like she's 5 years older than her 17 year old son.

A lot of the cuts between scenes felt weird and choppy and some of the scenes felt rushed.

Overall, pretty bad movie, would not recommend.

Some Sweet and Poignant Plot Twists Near the End
kristenlcollier2 September 2019
A Horse Called Bear" has some really sweet and poignant plot twists near the end. Another horse movie that's not really about a horse, but about redemptive relationships between family members and toward God.

About a teen, Ethan Riley, played by the "highly likeable" Nicholas Ryan Gibbs (to quote the Dennis Quaid ads), who loses his mom and goes to live with grandparents he doesn't really know too well. There is also an art sub-theme where the little artist, played by Austin Farnsworth, makes an amazing sacrifice out of love for God, to help the hurting Ethan (that's the part that made me cry, the sweet, generous, loving children and how they helped Ethan, it's really amazing).

The turning point comes when the pastor, played by Ryan-Iver Klann, who is also "highly likeable" in this role, when he speaks words of encouragement to Ethan, which helps for reconciliation and healing of the broken relationships. And opens the door to faith and restoration.

The little children are ADORABLE in this, so cute, they are absolute scene-stealers, especially at the end, when you see what they do, a sweet act of selflessness, to help the hurting Ethan.

Kristina Kaylen looks beautiful and warm as Ethan's friend and horse trainer, as does Heather Fairbanks, as the mother of the children who befriend and pray for Ethan and another hurting little girl.

Having watched "Courageous Love," also with Kristina Kaylen and Jared James Withrow, it was interesting to see Jared cast as the bad guy this time. The gentleman who played Ethan's grandfather, Wayne E. Brown, it was also nice to see his healing, spiritually and emotionally, and relationally, at the end.

I hope Penni makes a sequel, it would be interesting to see the "highly likeable" Nicholas Ryan Albert Gibbs et al, coming back from college and seeing the relationships develop.

A Horse Called Bear is a sweet movie!
mitzi_cohan24 September 2015
A Horse Called Bear is a cute movie. This is good for all ages. I enjoyed seeing the interaction of the children, especially when they were in church and learning how to show Christian love to others.

This is a sweet movie about forgiving others, when they have rejected you or hurt you in other ways. The movie is good and I recommend that others buy and watch it. I only gave it a rating of 8, because I was hoping to see some stronger witnessing at the end of the movie. Family made up with one another, and they prayed to God together, but it was not clear, if anyone asked Jesus into his heart to become his Lord and Savior. The youth pastor mentioned what the Lord did on the cross for us, but it would have been better, if an older child was led to the Lord during this story.

However, A Horse Called Bear is an entertaining, moral movie, which makes it an above average film. I just want to encourage this film company and others to be bolder in presenting the gospel. Everyone needs Jesus! God Bless You!
