- Quotes
Self - Host: [while showing Sutherland on the front cover of TV Guide] I've got to say congrats, look at this. Number one greatest action heroes, that's exciting right there
Self - Guest: I was on a plane when that came out. I just saw that when I got here
Self - Host: That's so exciting
Self - Guest: That's an honor for them to think that
Self - Host: I'm so happy that twenty-four came back and it's awesome and Jack Bauer is still kicking ass and your still yelling "Damn it"
Self - Guest: Yes
Self - Host: That's your catchphrase
Self - Guest: I think so
Self - Host: [Impersonating Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer] "Damn It Chloe"
Self - Guest: There's no other expletive you can use on network television really. I mean there isn't a single one
Self - Host: Yeah there isn't one
Self - Guest: And there were so many moments from the very first day we shot until now where not only as a character but for myself as an actor I needed something to get out of the scene so that seemed to be the phrase
Self - Host: Instead of taking your sunglasses off
Self - Guest: [Referring to the catchphrase] We never meant for it to catch on like it did
Self - Host: [while taking out a chart that displays the number of times Jack Bauer said "Damn It" in every episode from every season] someone from the internet counted it up
Self - Guest: Oh no really?
Self - Host: [Showing the chart] a grand total of a hundred and forty-four times you said "Damn It", there you go right there
Self - Guest: Well the irony is I think that number is half the number of people I killed on the show
Self - Host: [Sarcastically] you can kill a thousand people, sure. It's great this year, it's just so fun. I just love seeing Chloe come back and Mary Lynn...
Self - Guest: She's fantastic yeah
Self - Host: Everybody's great the writers are good, did you ever think it was going to go on this long?
Self - Guest: I think in all fairness when you do a show, you do it in stages: you do a pilot which is the very first show and if they like the pilot they'll pick up another thirteen and if they like that then they'll pick up the rest of the run and for us that was another eleven. I don't think any of us would think it was going to be picked up from the pilot because it was quite different
Self - Host: Yeah
Self - Guest: Then it got picked up as a pilot. I don't think anyone on our crew thought it was going to get picked up after that thirteen. When it did, I walked over to the creator one of the writers a man named Joel Surnow and I said "Congratulations, this is going to be great" and he looked at me and it was the only time I've seen him that scared in my life and he said "I don't think I can write the next eleven. I have no idea what we're going to do."
Self - Host: [Sarcastically] we already have you saying "Damn It" three hundred times in one scene right?
Self - Guest: This was not the point to tell me that
Self - Host: No yeah you're scaring me, you did a great job with this
Self - Guest: But it's been an absolute honor and privilege to be able to do it
Self - Host: And the big finale I know you're not allowed to say what's going to happen because that can just ruin it but is it some clever twist or something like that, are you not Jack Bauer?
Self - Guest: That would be cool. I knew we should've gone with that
Self - Host: [Jokingly] Yeah see I told you, you didn't hire me. You didn't read my speck script
Self - Guest: I think one of the things kind of like that first year when they were writing "on the go." They can take a story down a direction and as things become obvious then they can make a real right or left turn on you. I think that's one of the real staples of twenty-four and I think that's something that we were consciously trying to do this season. I hope it delivers, we're certainly excited about it. I've spent the last six months nervous beyond belief just finishing each episode because it is something we have great respect for which was the show
Self - Host: Yeah
Self - Guest: And to open that can up made me nervous so now that we're finished we want people to see it and I hope they enjoy it
Self - Host: As an audience member where I can't thank you enough for letting us play along
