This film would have us believe there exists a cabal of rich folks conspiring to make us poor. Economic recessions, and God forbid, depressions are more about wrong headed government policy, and the unintended results.
The economic crisis of 2008, in the USA, was a direct result of a law passed by the US Congress that required banks make home loans to virtually anybody who applied, whether or not they were financially able to repay. The banks merely followed the law, and then to reduce their risk, repackaged the loans into investment products available for any investor to buy. In addition to bank purchases, a large number of these products were purchased by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, which are both under pinned by the US Government.
People took these loans and speculated in the housing market, in some cases buying multiple homes in the belief they would increase in value. When the housing bubble burst it began a domino effect on the financial markets. I you want to be mad at somebody, look to the US Congress, and greedy individual investors.
