Father Brown overrules Mrs McCarthy's objections to taking in overnight a jazz-quartet comprising Haitians and white father and son Jospeh and Tommy Sinclair. After Haitian voodoo priest Emmanuel Jammite comes scold and curse Joseph for 'stealing his girlfriend', band singer Yveline Lafond, the latter's corpse floats in the swimming pool. Before inspector Mallory can arrest Emmanuel, he dies in a car accident.
