A fascinating nightmare

Pretty much like Igor Kovalyov, Andrei Svislotski was a soviet experimental animator who worked in arthouse shorts before working in Nickelodeon shows by Klasky Csupo, such as Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, Rugrats and Rocket Power.

This is one of his early works aimed at adults, depicting the tale of a woman haunted by a series of weird creatures during her sleep; the result is a pretty stylish work, which captures the weird nature of dreams in a similar to a surreal paintings, filled with lots of eerie imagery of ambiguous meaning, alternating glimpses of lust with several instances of death and violence.

A very fascinating watching experience, a shame Svislotski never made another animations in this same style, focusing only in media aimed at children for the rest of his career until his demise in the year 2022.

This will remain as his masterpiece.
