There are many myths surrounding Vincent Van Gogh's slicing off his ear on December 23, 1888. First, some say he sliced off a tiny portion of his ear (sucs the the lobe), some say he took off the entire ear. Second, folks have debated WHY he did this and to WHOM he gave this ear or piece of ear...if he even gave it to anyone. In this episode of "Secrets of the Dead", they approach all these questions and eventually give a solid answer to WHAT part of his ear he removed and a very good idea who he actually gave it to. All in all, fascinating and very enjoyable--particularly when the show reveals the answers and the researcher learns the emotional truth. Well worth seeing.
