Chameleon Shadow was filmed in various locations all over Salt Lake City, UT
Prior to filming the completed movie being made, director Sam Mills filmed this story as a short, one man movie in his home. The filming took 9 days but was abandoned soon after shooting. None of the footage was edited and no effects were done. It followed a similar plot, but Mr. Mills felt that story deserved a bigger scope so he started over.
The working title was "Shadow of the Chameleon". It was deemed clunky and hard to say so Sam Mills asked his Facebook friends to give suggestions for a new title. After getting a slew of responses, "Chameleon Shadow" was suggested by a mentor and was immediately decided upon.
After viewing a completely scored rough cut, Sam Mills had 70% of the music redone. The original music was more orchestrated in nature, and he felt a more surreal and ethereal score would better capture the mood he was looking for. Ironically, a more surreal piece was originally written for the forest "searching" scene, but swapped out for a more orchestrated one in order to make it more dramatic.
