It's a really important subject matter, the disfranchised, demonized, white male of today, particularly in the working class arena. Buzzwords such as white privilege, and toxic masculinity are all made up by middle class people on a massive grab for power. They want to bring down white men everywhere, even though so little are the ones at blame. Power begets power, no matter who has it. It's simple nepotism. In the meantime, with the demise of industry, where are these men, and women too, to go?
They won't simply disappear. They are lost. Being working class has always been about being overlooked and looked down upon by the rest. The struggles to escape poverty and stigma are not even realized by them. However I think today, with current attitudes working against men in particular, it's even harder for them to find their way.
Prof Green does manage to find a couple of black sheep as it were, trying to emerge and looking like they will do it. I did it myself. It is possible. Luck plays a part. And certain skills that some people are just never taught. But he knows also, that those who go on to do well are few and far between. They won't go away. They won't vanish. There will be more drugs, more suicides, more crime, more violence, until society can begin to lend it's supposed far leaning sympathies, to it's own backyard. While it continues to point score and demonize, more and more people will not only slip through the ever burgeoning cracks, they will get damn angry about it.
A crucial documentary series and really just the tip of the iceberg. I'd love to see more of these. A terrible shame that it's only received such a low amount of ratings, and a unjustified score. Thank you for caring Prof. Green. You are unique. Sadly, most simply don't care. To their peril.
