I don't get it. I just don't get it. Why is there not one, but TWO bad shows about kung fu fighting chickens (Chop Socky Chocks being the first)? Chuck Chicken has a whole host of problems that prevent me from watching more than one episode (yep, it's THAT bad). Firstly, the animation is very flat and lifeless. It's got a nice color palette but man do the character animations feel lifeless. The designs aren't that good either, as they feel very derivative of other shows or movies with birds. Chuck has the same big eyebrows as Red from Angry Birds and it's really distracting. The characters themselves are really one note and uninteresting. They follow stereotypical tropes of the arrogant hero, the nerdy sidekick and bumbling evil bad guy we've seen before and I'm really getting tired of seeing. Then there's the voice acting and oh brother is it terrible! I'm sorry, I'm sure these guys were giving it their all, but their line reading feels stilted at best and unenthusiastic at worst. I also cannot stand the awful lip synching as it's clear this is made in another country and they didn't bother matching the lips with the voices. In addition to that, it's not particularly funny, even for a kids show. But none of that compares to this show's horrendous pacing. Each episode is divided into 11 minute segments and the story is rushed along without giving time to breathe. The origin of the Macguffin that gives Chuck his powers is told too quickly and as soon as he gets the Macguffin he's already mastered it, the fight is over too easily and the episode ends. I'm sorry, but that went by way too fast. We didn't even get to know the world this place is set in or establish why only Chuck can use the Macguffin. It's not that it has to be longer, it's just that it needs to take it's time with it's story. Why not have Chuck learn how to use his powers as the show progresses? Or just cut to the chase and have him inherit his powers from a relative who teaches him how to use the properly? Overall, this show is just another bad case of wasted potential.

It's a great use of time especially on lazy afternoons.

The love my kids have for this series and its relatable characters can be written into a trilogy packed with a good dose of comedy, action and romance just as this show stands out to be.
