Variety has confirmed that the previously announced Arkham Asylum TV series is no longer moving forward at Max. It was back in 2022 when we first learned Antonio Campos (The Staircase) had been tapped to serve as The Batman spin-off's writer and showrunner.
This iteration of the show has been scrapped, though it's supposedly possible that a new project set in the infamous Gotham City location could happen down the line. We're not banking on it, unfortunately.
In many ways, this news doesn't come as a surprise. When the show was announced, it had a series commitment but was being developed by Terrence Winter (Boardwalk Empire) and set inside the Gotham City Police Department. He later walked away due to creative differences.
Giri/Haji creator Joe Barton was next to take a crack at the untitled series - which many fans had already unfavourably compared to Fox's Gotham - only to walk...

The planned Arkham Asylum TV series is no longer moving forward at Max, Variety has learned.
As Variety exclusively reported in October 2022, Antonio Campos had come onboard to serve as writer and showrunner of the series, which was originally meant to be set within the world of Matt Reeves’ “The Batman.” But according to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Campos’ version will not proceed. It is still possible, though, that a new project set within the infamous Gotham City asylum could be developed in the future, the individual noted.
Thus ends (at least for now) the show’s complicated path to the screen. It was originally announced in July 2020 with a series commitment, but at that time it was meant to focus on the inner workings of the Gotham Pd as featured in “The Batman.” Terrence Winter was attached to write and executive produce, but he left the...

From its meet-cute opening to its high-octane, car-chasing, rooftop-skipping big finish, The Union's trailer tees up a tantalising genre hybrid driven by Wahlberg and Berry's palpable on-screen chemistry. There's a flirtatious frisson to the duo's dive bar banter — "You can handle your liquor now?" chides Wahlberg's Mike; "I could always handle my liquor" Berry's Roxanne claps back — that looks to carry...

“No job. No boss. Just fun.” That was the offer the Fifteenth Doctor made to Ruby Sunday in the Doctor Who series 14 trailer. ‘And’, he should probably have added, ‘quite a lot of mortal peril,’ – but when has the Doctor ever been upfront with companions about the not-insignificant dangers of travelling in time and space? He probably doesn’t even fill in a risk assessment.

“Too Much” follows Jessica (Stalter), a New York workaholic in her mid-30s who is reeling from a broken relationship that she thought would last forever and slowly isolating everyone she knows. Disney’s Kdrama, The Worst of Evil has probably left a narcotic-sized hole in your hearts, especially with that ending. Grandiose in its presentation, set in late 90s Seoul, The Worst of Evil is visually charming while also delivering a well-crafted story that is emotional and thrilling at the same time. Yeah, it’s nothing new, but the show goes beyond what is expected from it. The fantastic cast plays the biggest role in making this work, and the chemistry between all members is palpable. The Worst of Evil is directed with finesse; even the classic Korean beauty shot feels more raw and eerie with the setting of the late 90s. Some scenes are unforgettable, and we have to talk about the costume design, which is absolutely flawless. Did anybody else want all the suits for themselves? We’ve compiled a list that includes worldwide shows that cover similar themes...

Brown most notably starred in Netflix’s The Witcher: Blood Origin, a spinoff of the fantasy drama series, The Witcher. The four-part limited series, set in an elven world 1,200 years before the world of The Witcher, tells a story lost to time – one of seven outcasts who unite against an unstoppable power that took everything from them. Sophia Di Martino and Will Sharpe are the definition of a power couple. Di Martino is currently taking over the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Sylvie in Disney+'s "Loki," but she's also known for her roles in British series like "The Royal Today," "Casualty," and "Flowers." The latter two also featured Sharpe, whom you may recognize from other shows like "Giri/Haji" and "The White Lotus." Sharpe is also an award-winning writer and director.
Over the years, Di Martino and Sharpe have collaborated on several projects together. Still, the pair tend to keep their relationship out of the spotlight. They rarely talk about each other in interviews and have only recently started making public appearances together. Since they keep details about their relationship under wraps, it's unclear if they're engaged or married, but we do know they have been together since 2009 and have two children together.

Neill Blomkamp’s “Gran Turismo” movie from Sony Pictures packs all the adrenaline and all the emotions. Based on a true story, the film follows young Jann Mardenborough (Archie Madekwe) as he gets the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to go from a video game racer to a real race car driver. It all started with Gran Turismo game creator Kazunori Yamauchi (Takehiro Hira) who got ahold of an automobile simulator and transformed it into a very real racing experience for gamers. Dreamer and Nissan marketing executive Danny Moore (Orlando Bloom) took the love for the game a step further by giving the best players a chance to go through a Gran Turismo academy to compete for the chance at racing on some of the professional courses featured in the game.

There’s probably a clever German word invented to describe the increasingly common and frustrating act of spending an entire evening indecisively flicking through Netflix arguing about what to watch before just giving up and going to bed. The streaming giant has over 7,000 titles on its UK version alone, so you can be forgiven for feeling a bit overwhelmed by it all, and its recent tendency to cancel beloved Netflix Originals – some would say too soon – can leave you wondering where best to commit your time.

Editor’s note: The following interviews were done outside of the FYC event series, as there was no panel or screening.
When it comes to assembling the quintessential ensemble cast for a series, it’s an art, not a science; an organic melding of faces and emotional forces. No more was this important than in the high stakes second season of HBO’s drama series White Lotus in which we’re pulled into the posh, sexy allure of those upper-class denizens on vacation only to relish in their deceitful sides and hijinks, warts and all. The series not only propelled fresh faces to the forefront such as Natasha Rothwell in season one, whose Hawaiian White Lotus resort spa manager is returning for the Eastern religion and spirituality set season 3, but it’s also shown a fresh, dynamic range of actors we’ve seen previously, i.e. Jennifer Coolidge and Alexandra Daddario among several others.

Will Sharpe dominated our TV screens this season in Season 2 of HBO’s “The White Lotus” as Ethan Spiller, the husband of Harper (Aubrey Plaza), who travels to Italy for a weeklong vacation. During our recent exclusive video interview (watch above), Sharpe explains how the first thing that drew him to the character was “how different his behavior is at the end of the series compared to how you meet him at the beginning.” Ethan is “sort of a weird enigma of a man,” laughs the English actor.
Sharpe is a 2020 BAFTA TV Award winner for “Giri/Haji” and a 2023 SAG Award champion for “The White Lotus” as part of the ensemble cast. Next up on the awards front are the Emmy nominations, where he’s eligible in the Best Drama Supporting Actor category. Sister co-founder and chief creative officer Jane Featherstone spoke about how difficult it is to back original IP – as opposed to the relentless stream of reboots and spin-offs – in the current climate. “We have to hold our nerve,” Featherstone said. “As producers, we have to try and [walk] that tightrope of kind of giving people what they think they want but surprising people. And I don’t think audiences always do know what they want until they see it, and you can’t always emulate. So we have to be bold and brave.”

Will Sharpe, who starred opposite Aubrey Plaza on Season 2 of “The White Lotus,” will direct the film adaptation of “Crying in H Mart,” the best-selling (and heartbreaking) memoir from Michelle Zauner, better known as indie rocker Japanese Breakfast.
As announced by the studio, Sharpe will take on the coming-of-age story about a half-Korean daughter who returns to small-town Oregon to care for her Korean mother. The project, which was first announced back in 2021 with Zauner herself writing the screenplay, is set at MGM’s Orion Pictures and is now moving forward under Amazon’s supervision. Amazon finalized its acquisition of MGM for $8.5 billion last spring, and the studio has been ramping back up with its recent hire of new film chief Courtenay Valenti.

There was a lot to love about "The White Lotus" season 2, but one of the strongest parts of the series by far was the stellar casting. From Jennifer Coolidge to Michael Imperioli, every actor knocked 'em dead. It's almost hard to imagine anyone else playing the characters we know and love, but sometimes a casting director is forced to make those tough choices. Even if they put together a bulletproof cast, it's always possible that someone will have to pull out of the project at the last moment.
That's exactly what happened to "The White Lotus" season 2, but the team was able to come together and recast the role so flawlessly that it's hard to say which actor was the replacement. Believe it or not, Ethan Spiller was originally supposed to be played by "American Horror Story" alumni Evan Peters.

Exclusive: Prime Video is developing an action drama series from film and TV writer Joe Barton and director-producer Michael Bay. The project hails from A+E Studios, in association with Range Studios, and Amazon Studios.
Created and written by Barton and to be directed by Bay, the untiled project centers on an American bounty hunter working South of the border who finds himself in a desperate fight for survival when the man he’s been chasing down lands them both in trouble with the Mexican cartel.
“I was inspired about 5 years ago hanging out down in Costa Rica, with a former US Federal Agent, who surfs every day, living the good life,” Bay said about the project’s origins. “He supports his fun, relaxed lifestyle in Costa Rica by tracking down ‘Bad Gringos’ hiding out down in South America.”
Barton executive produces with Bay and Brad Fuller of Platinum Dunes, Range Media Partners and Wise Entertainment.

Netflix has canceled its planned adaptation of Stuart Turton’s prize-winning novel “The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle.”
The project had been on the first development slate from Netflix VP of content for the U.K., Anne Mensah, for more than two years, but sources indicate that it never made it into production.
Author Turton first revealed the U-turn by the streamer on Jan. 12 in a now-deleted tweet. “Alright pals, I come bearing bad news,” he wrote. “Netflix has canned its plans to make a telly adaptation of ‘Seven Deaths.’ Sad news, but thems the breaks. We’re looking for another home for it, but the focus at the minute is making sure it’s fucking brilliant when it does arrive.”
Netflix first announced the adaptation in December 2020 as part of a slate of seven local originals that included the Rowan Atkinson-starring comedy “Man vs Bee.” Sophie Petzal, an...

Each December, acclaimed television series from the previous 12 months are discussed in the form of “best of...” lists. In these, the same shows are usually bandied around – some deserving (Better Call Saul), others not so (we won’t name names).
Often, though, several key titles are omitted – not because they aren’t any good, but because they haven’t been widely seen. This is understandable; after all, there’s an increasing amount of television to wade through every week.
Perhaps this is why these lists are skewed towards the high-profile releases – the ones that happen to be right there when people browse Netflix or whichever streaming service they have. But the fact remains, there’s a goldmine of under-the-radar shows out there to discover.
In the past year, all of the below deserved more love.

Netflix has swung the axe on yet another show after just one season.
The streaming service has a habit of cancelling shows before they have time to develop their fanbase.
Sadly, this is now the case for fantasy series Half Bad: The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself.
Despite it being released on 28 October, the service has decided to call time on the series, which was an adaptation of Sally Green’s novel.
Creator Joe Barton, whose credits include the acclaimed Giri/Haji and The Lazarus Project, confirmed the news on Twitter, writing: “Sadly, yes, Netflix have cancelled this. Very proud of it and really liked the people I got to make it with. Sorry not to be able to finish the story...”
Imaginarium, the show’s UK producer, wrote: “Half Bad is a show we are incredibly proud of, which gained stellar reviews, along with a fiercely loyal global fanbase.

In the year 2020, lockdown provided a time we all never thought we’d have – and banked on never having – to discover hidden gems on our ever-present streaming services. And in a way, what makes these services so special, is the hopeful promise to find something we’d otherwise never encounter, if only we had the time to really commit.
When you’ve heard the phrase, “hidden gem” as many times as rabid Spurs fan, showrunner, and prolific writer, Joe Barton has, it might just force you to neck your favorite cough syrup just to feel something. Giri/Haji was a BBC/Netflix and English/Japanese crime procedural starring Kelly Macdonald and Takerhiro Hira, it’s the hidden gem in question here. It introduced me to Joe, who’s since co-written alien-adjacent drama Encounter for Amazon Prime Video, YA...
