- Aaron Kaufman is back and he's the boss. Redefining the custom car building space, he's pushing his design abilities to the limits and focusing on vehicle builds driven by passion. Taking on concepts and builds he's always dreamed of, Aaron will extend his skills in spaces he's never worked in before and with different types of vehicles in SHIFTING GEARS WITH AARON KAUFMAN.
- Aaron Kaufman started on the Discovery Channel with the 2012 premiere of the Dallas based Fast N' Loud, with Richard Rawlings and the Gas Monkey Zoo. Graduating from Crowley High School in Fort Worth Texas, he then went to UT Arlington College and dropped out after the 1st semester. It was then that Kaufman joined the Gas Monkey Garage and for several years was Rawlings travel buddy and mechanic entering races and car shows promoting the shop and later the show, Fast N' Loud.
The shows plot synopsis with "Shifting Gears with Aaron Kaufman," is a simple one. Taking the talented young, enthusiastic car building visionary from "Fast N' Loud," and give him his own reality show where he can build the unique car projects that he wants to do.
The Discovery Channels embraces Kaufmans' creations built by him and his crew with purpose. In contrast of Fast N' Loud, Overhaulin, Kindiig It Designs, and All Girls Garage who build, repair, modify, sell, or give their projects for clients. Kaufmans' projects are built for an event. Each project progresses through three-episodes: finding a new style of vehicle to build, doing the work, then testing, racing and event participation. Episodes include Diesel truck track racing, the King of the Hammers, in California, world's hardest one-day off-road race and the Gentleman's Race on the beaches of New Jersey with his 42 Harley. His shows have a different documentary twist and for most car enthusiasts allot of fun to watch. Interactions between car building and event participation with those vehicles is a newer concept for most TV viewers.
"Shifting Gears with Aaron Kaufman," lacks levity, goofiness and any clown activity as shown in Fast N' Loud, Misfit Garage and Graveyard Carz. Perhaps a little too serious. Fans of TV reality car shows appreciate levity, goofiness and some clown activity.
At the end of 2016, fans of Fast N' Loud learned that Kaufman was leaving the show for his own. The new show would be "Shifting Gears with Aaron Kaufman." His choice to leave an established, successful, fan favorite, established television reality show where he was a star, Fast N' Loud would be a like so many other second bananas have before, a calculated choice. One with optimism with hopes of success.
The show is an interesting watch and will continue should it survive. All fans of Fast N' Loud will give Aaron Kaufman a chance with Shifting Gears but, to survive, his show will have added a wealth of new fans. - Martin Snytsheuvel
