Le Sam is an homage to the French New Wave of cinema in the 1960's, spoofing period classics such as Le Samouraï and Los Duolos. These films were known for minimal dialogue and "long takes," holding on the action of the story with restrictive use of camera movement and editing. Dir. Steven Ellis was heavily inspired by the legendary French film director Jean Pierre Melville (1917-1973) and the distinct style shines through; a visually rawness which lends its film's talent to strong silent performances.
