The narrator says " The boats grind to a halt... The Amtraks are stranded." In fact, it was the Higgins boats that were stranded. The Amtrak was designed to crawl over obstacles such as coral reefs , and many made it to the beach. However, the Navy counted on higher tides and therefore planned on using the Higgins boats as the primary means of transporting the Marines to the beaches. The Amtraks served their purpose well, but with too few alloted to the task force, many were destroyed by the Japanese.
Several times when referring to Tarawa and its terrain we are shown Japanese soldiers moving through thick jungle. Tarawa was in fact a tiny coral island with no jungle.
