With the recent announcement of Jurassic Park: Survival, it looks as if the game is more Alien: Isolation than Turok. That’s great and all for those looking for stealth action, but what about those wanting to send dinosaurs to a second extinction? Omyog and publisher tinyBuild look to have your answer with Ferocious, a slick-looking new Fps for Steam, which recently had a new trailer released that has you piloting a mech and ripping up the environment.
Ferocious centres around you waking up after a shipwreck, having become beached on a mysterious island in the Pacific Ocean. Your brother is missing, and you must find him. However, you quickly discover that you’re not the only one on the island. And not the only human, either. The place is crawling with mercenaries and dinosaurs, and you’ve got to rely on your wits and stealth to outmaneuver and survive.

While we wait for its successor, fans of Alien: Isolation are probably wanting something to tide them over. Unbound Publishers looks to have just the thing with their companion book, Perfect Organism: An Alien: Isolation Companion. Set for release on August 8, and written by BBC News journalist and short film director Andy Kelly, Perfect Organism is currently up for pre-order at the Unbound Publishers website.
Perfect Organism combines original insight, extensive research and level-by-level analysis, and features original chapter illustrations from Jon McKellan, lead Ui artist for Alien: Isolation. The book reveals to players the rationale and authenticity of the set design and art direction, as well as info about the alien’s unnerving abilities to second-guess the players and the importance of its unique height, the importance of the dynamic audio and the use of seventies archive soundbites, as well as the darkly beautiful music.

Alien: Rogue Incursion, the highly anticipated spiritual successor that people have been waiting for since the release of Alien: Isolation, has finally dropped a chilling first look at the gameplay.
Developed by Survios, the game is set to release during the holiday season this year. One thing people didn’t expect was that the game is exclusive to the VR; could this be the marketing push the PSVR2 needs to finally see better days?
Sorry Folks, The New Alien Game is for PSVR2 Only The aliens are back, and they’re as terrifying as ever.
The PSVR2 isn’t one of the better-selling VR headsets of this generation, but the release of Rogue Incursion could change everything. People have been waiting for a new game in the franchise for a while, and if this can build enough hype, people might be enticed to drop some cash and grab a headset for themselves.

Remember back in 2022 when developer Survios had announced that they were teaming up with 20th Century Games to develop a new Alien title? Well seeing as it’s Alien Day, Survios has announced their brand-new VR title, Alien: Rogue Incursion. Coming “Holiday 2024” to the PlayStation VR2, SteamVR, and Quest 3, Rogue Incursion will feature an original story that “fully surrounds players within the terrors of the Alien universe”.
Details on the game are light at the moment, but the official site describes the upcoming title as being “designed by Alien fans for Alien fans”, with Survios aiming to craft a “technically advanced, and frightfully immersive Alien virtual reality game.”
Seeing as Alien: Isolation never got official VR support when it was released, this is obviously a welcome announcement. In the meantime, if you’re keen to experience an Alien game in VR, you can always check out the fan-made mod for...

Ereban: Shadow Legacy is further proof that 2024 is the year of the AA game, following on from other fun surprises like Helldivers 2 and Outcast: A New Beginning. This third person stealth platformer takes inspiration from titles like Splatoon and Prince of Persia, with a hint of Assassin’s Creed sprinkled in there for good measure.

This August will finally see the return of the “Alien” franchise with Fede Álvarez’s “Alien: Romulus.” Taking place between the events of the first two movies, last week’s ‘Romulus’ teaser trailer helped build some anticipation as the new installment takes place on a space station (an obvious inspiration from the video game “Alien: Isolation”). Actresses in the past, such as Noomi Rapace in “Prometheus” and Katherine Waterston in “Alien: Covenant,” have been compared to Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley, but new ‘Romulus’ star Cailee Spaeny tells Total Film she has big shoes to fill and won’t try replicating that character.

It's been nearly seven years since Ridley Scott returned to the "Alien" franchise with the ever-divisive "Alien: Covenant." While we may not be getting a sequel to that film, Disney and 20th Century Studios are bringing the Xenomorphs back for another big-screen thrill ride in the form of this summer's "Alien: Romulus." Directed by Fede Alvarez, it looks like a return to the franchise's horror roots with new characters, a new ship, and familiar threats.
Alvarez recently spoke with Variety in honor of the recently released "Alien: Romulus" teaser trailer. The filmmaker was asked what he is bringing to the table for his film, which takes place 20 years after the events of the original 1979 sci-fi/horror classic. Alvarez, much like Ridley Scott and James Cameron before him, has a unique view of this universe. But his main goal? Make "Alien" scary again:

Alien: Isolation is a special game; every single element of it works. Even in wireframe, without the Alien-themed coat of paint, it makes for a completely satisfying gameplay experience. If you had a different styling to it, the world would still feel fully realized and fun to navigate. The tension of being stalked by a relentless predator would be amazing even if it wasn’t the much-beloved Xenomorph. This all coalesces into a great experience that is only elevated by setting it in a perfect rendition of the Alien Universe.
Many other games have been set in this world, but they often don’t capture the soul of the franchise in the way that Isolation does. The ones that find success usually do so by adopting the tone of Aliens rather than Alien. The faster, more action-packed style is more conducive to the medium of video games, giving you...

Alien: Romulus will be released only in theaters on August 16, 2024.
Watch the first official trailer for Alien: Romulus below, which gives us glimpses of the iconic Face Huggers and the Xenomorph but mostly soaks us in mystery and suspense. In Fede Alvarez’s hands, the Alien franchise may be truly terrifying again.

Isabela Merced says she’s seen half of Alien: Romulus on an iPad, and one scene in particular is so ‘disgusting’ that other cast members had to look away.
Ever since the series began in 1979, Alien has traded in its own style of body horror. Forty-five years on, the original film's parasite birth sequence still has an impact that other entries in the franchise have seldom quite matched.
Logically enough, Alien: Romulus will continue the body horror tradition – and according to Isabela Merced, who will star alongside Cailee Spaeny in a young cast of potential xenomorph victims, one scene in the film is particularly intense. In a lengthy interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Merced recalls being on set during a round of reshoots and holding an iPad belonging to director Fede Alvarez.

It’s easy to take the Aliens vs. Predator franchise for granted years after the crossover became mainstream, but long-time fans remember that it was actually quite the long journey to get this far. With a shared universe originally being teased at the end of Predator 2, our favorite movie monsters initially had to duke it out in the pages of cult comic-books and a series of hit video games that once dominated the licensed market.
In fact, from the 90s to the early 2000s, the Avp games were legendary due to their distinct gameplay and innovative multiplayer elements. However, after the release of a failed reboot in the seventh console generation, the series mostly faded into obscurity. Sure, we’d see great individual Alien and Predator titles (like 2014’s Alien: Isolation and IllFonic’s Predator: Hunting Grounds), but it seems like the rights holders have no interest in giving these creatures an updated rematch.

After giving fans a taste of underwater cosmic horror with Quantum Error, developer TeamKill Media is now looking to scratch that Turok itch with their dinosaur-themed Fps Son and Bone. The game will launch later this year for the PlayStation 5, and has an appropriately over-the-top announcement teaser.
And speaking of cheese, here’s the overview for Son and Bone, courtesy of Push Square:
When a local farm in Patchwork, Montana is attacked by a group of notorious bandits, Sheriff Sam Judge sets out to bring them to justice by any means necessary and save the hostage they have taken. But on his journey, through the mysterious motives of those he pursues, Sam finds himself transported to another world overrun with prehistoric creatures, dinosaurs and now must fight for his life to make it back to earth.
Admittedly, it’s still not Dino Crisis, but then again, we can always use more dinosaur shooters.

It’s been almost two years since Valve released their powerful Steam Deck handheld console. Since then, it’s been clear that Steam Deck verification has been a priority selling point for games of all sizes.
If you’re looking to take your horror on the go, here are eight games that will run on the Steam Deck.
Faith: The Unholy Trinity
PS1 visuals may be hot right now in the indie space, but Faith: The Unholy Trinity finds visual and mechanical inspiration from 8-bit gaming. The pixelated visuals resemble an Atari 2600 game, featuring rotoscoped animations that are truly chilling. I’m surprised more games don’t feature Satanic Panic and exorcism, because Faith finds clever ways to translate the ritual into gameplay. Its simple mechanics run perfectly on a handheld system, so this feels like discovering some sort of cursed Game Boy cartridge that will haunt your dreams.

Actor Cailee Spaeny has confirmed that the events of Alien: Romulus will unfold between those of 1979’s Alien and 1986’s Aliens.
When it was announced last year that Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez would be heading up a new movie in the Alien franchise, the line was that its story (co-written by Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues) would be unconnected to the previous films.
That’s likely still true, but we now at least know when the plot of Alien: Romulus will take place – between the events of 1979’s Alien and 1986’s Aliens. Rumours of this timeline placement have been floating around for a few months now, but actor Cailee Spaeny, who has a currently undisclosed role in Romulus, recently confirmed this to Variety's Michaela Zee.
“It’s supposed to slot in between the first movie and the second movie,” Spaeny said. “They brought the same team from Aliens, the James Cameron film.

While it feels silly to point out that Alan Wake 2 is a horror game, much has been made of the transition from Alan Wake’s style of Action Horror to Alan Wake 2’s brand of more “pure” Survival Horror. In fact, quite a few people seem to be wondering if Alan Wake 2 will be too scary for them to enjoy.
That topic even came up during our recent interview with Alan Wake 2 directors Sam Lake and Kyle Rowley. The pair were well aware of the challenges of making a properly scary horror game that isn’t so effective that people end up not wanting to play it. That’s especially true for this sequel that is building upon a scary (but generally slightly more accessible) horror gaming experience.
So how scary is Alan Wake 2? Truth be told, it’s a walk through a slightly spooky park compared to the absolute scariest video games out there.

As depicted in James Cameron’s sci-fi classic Terminator 2: Judgment Day, a military defense computer system called Skynet becomes self-aware in the far-flung future of 1997, setting off a nuclear holocaust in an attempt to wipe out the human race. The survivors form a resistance against the malicious A.I., which deploys advanced robotic warriors and drones coined Terminators against the last remnants of humanity.

The new Alien movie directed by Fede Alvarez began filming in Budapest, Hungary on March 9th and wrapped up in early July, right before the Screen Actors Guild strike began. As far as we know (and here’s everything we do know about the movie that may or may not be called Alien: Romulus), it’s still on track for an August 16, 2024 theatrical release. Alvarez is doing a good job of keeping details under wraps – but over the weekend, he did take to social media to share a picture of the books he was looking through while developing the project.

‘Tis the season for horror video game showcases. And for indie developers, 靄Moya Horror and HauntedPS1’s EEK3 2023 was the place to be, showing off new and upcoming titles from the smaller but incredibly passionate crowd. Here’s a sampling of the games that made an appearance during the two-hour event.
Wrong Organ’s Mouthwashing is a narrative driven first-person horror game following the dying crew of a shipwrecked space freighter Tulpar. Slated for release on Steam later this year, the game has you living out the remaining time of the five-person crew. The ship will run out of power within six months, but food rations are running even lower. With no chance of rescue, the only hope lies in the cargo hold, as the contents could mean a prolonged chance of survival. However, the crew is prohibited from going in there under company orders…

Despite not having a nailed-down release date, Jenito Studios are still giving fans of the upcoming Limerick: Cadence Mansion some love with a new developer walkthrough trailer. Released during the Mix Next showcase, the trailer gives fans all new look at solo developer Daniel Hall’s Unreal Engine 5 powered horror game ahead of its release later this Fall.
The video introduces players to the eponymous Cadence Mansion. It’s here players will have to solve a series of puzzles, outwit the various creatures that inhabit the island, and manage a host of limited resources – all while being stalked by the cursed marionette Limerick.
“With Limerick: Cadence Mansion I wanted to create an original take on the horror genre that takes inspiration from a lot of my favorite horror games and immersive worlds,” said Jenito Studios’ Daniel Hall. “There’s the action, resource management and puzzles of Resident Evil, the deep...

I’m of the mindset that there has never been an excellent modern video game based on the Alien franchise. Alien: Isolation was an exercise in misery, taking what should’ve been a well-crafted 4-8 hour horror experience and stretching it beyond the 20-hour mark. Aliens: Fireteam Elite was a fun-as-hell co-op shooter, but repetitive gameplay and light content at launch kept it from its potential. The less said about Aliens: Colonial Marines, the better. The point is that there has yet to be a game to land not only the aesthetics the series is known for but the feeling of tension and dread that comes with it. It’s understandably a tricky balancing act, so maybe it was “game over” all along for this franchise in video game form. And then I booted up Aliens: Dark Descent.

Alongside viral outbreaks and murderous revenants, horror games love pitting us against threats from beyond the stars.
If you have even a passing interest in the genre, then you’re bound to have dealt with a few alien hordes in your time, as we just can’t seem to get enough of these terrifying close encounters. In the past twelve months alone, we’ve fought extra-terrestrial beasties in The Callisto Protocol, Signalis, Scorn, and of course, the exemplary Dead Space remake.
And while those titles certainly had their differences and idiosyncrasies, one thing remained consistent across the board. Taking to heart that old adage: “In space, no one can hear you scream”; they all put a fair bit of distance between you (as the player) and the reassuring comforts of Planet Earth.
Whether they were sentencing you to life in a maximum-security prison orbiting Jupiter, getting you to respond to...

Remember the user mod that cranked up the Xenomorph content for Alien: Isolation? The modder behind that one, Matt Filer, has been hard at work with OpenCAGE, a set of mod tools for Alien:Isolation, and has dropped us a line to let us know about its big update.
The update for OpenCAGE adds support for adding custom meshes, materials, and textures to the game. That’s on top of the already-existing support for custom scripting in the game’s proprietary scripting format, modifying the Xenomorph’s behaviour trees and more.
To further get people talking about the update (in addition to tweeting about it), Matt has put together a Counter-Strike map in Alien:Isolation. Seriously, you run around in what looks like Dust II shooting up Xenos and androids. Not quite as scary as roaming around the Sevastopol, but still pretty cool.
You can grab the updated version of OpenCAGE from its Github.

Exclusive: Viva Kids has acquired North American distribution rights to Dragonkeeper, the animated action-adventure film from Spanish firm Guardián de Dragones and China Film Animation. Hulu will release domestically after the film’s theatrical bow, which is slated for August 2023. Based on the first book in Carole Wilkinson’s series of fantasy novels, the film follows Ping, a young orphan who must venture across ancient China to help the last surviving dragons from extinction. Across her wild and dangerous journey Ping finds a way to unlock her power and discover that she is a true dragonkeeper. Visual development on the film comes from animation vet Sergio Pablos (Despicable Me), while English-language voice cast includes Bill Nighy (Love Actually), Bill Bailey (Hot Fuzz), Anthony Howell (Alien: Isolation) and newcomer Mayalinee Griffiths as Ping. Dragonkeeper is directed by Salvador Simó, who also directed the Annecy title Buñuel In The Labyrinth Of The Turtles.

On the 30th anniversary of the release of Alien 3, it seems like a good time to look at the film’s role in the Alien trilogy. Except calling it a trilogy is pretty controversial. Even now, debate still rages over a simple question: Which Alien films count?
It’s a surprisingly controversial subject among fans. Eight licensed feature films form the franchise, and there are some areas of common consensus. For instance, it is unlikely anyone is going to storm the comments if we say we can disregard the Alien vs. Predator movies for reasons of them being bad.
An area of less certainty is the Prometheus/Alien: Covenant duology. Directed by Alien’s Ridley Scott, you would think these had a cast-iron claim on canon-hood, and yet disregarding the films’ problems, they don’t feel like they are interested in the things that a proper Alien story is interested in.

There’s a new game set in the Alien universe cresting over the horizon. So it seems like it may be a good time to look back at another game, and one of the best pieces of media from the franchise, Alien: Isolation.
Alien: Isolation was released in 2014, to a rightfully apprehensive audience after the previous game, Colonial Marines, had tanked most people’s hopes for good games set in the Alien universe. As it turned out, however, Alien: Isolation not only ended up becoming quite possibly the best game of the Alien franchise but one of the best Survival Horror games of all time.
The experience of playing Alien: Isolation is like no other, this is because it understands what made Alien the film work and seeks to recreate that. It’s an excellent example of how everything comes together in games to provide a certain experience. Everything from the art direction,...

Aliens: Fireteam Elite hopes to not only bring a little life to one of the most notable gaming dry spells in quite some time but ultimately do justice to 1986’s Aliens in the same way that Alien Isolation so brilliantly paid tribute to 1979’s Alien.
On the surface, Aliens: Fireteam Elite is in a tremendous position to do just that. With its Left 4 Dead-style cooperative gameplay that casts you and your companions as space marines tasked with exterminating a horde of Xenomorphs, Aliens: Fireteam Elite seems to capture what many people remember most (or perhaps most fondly) about the Aliens movie.
Yet, as you play Aliens: Fireteam Elite, you’ll likely start to realize that Aliens‘ action may be the aspect of the movie that many people mention first when discussing it but was actually just one of the components of that film that made it work as well as it did.

The recent reveal of Aliens: Fireteam (a co-op shooter from Cold Iron Studios based on the film of the same name) has quickly proven to be one of the year’s most welcome surprises so far. At a time when the Covid-19 pandemic has left us questioning when previously revealed games will be released, the seemingly simple announcement of a potentially major, entirely new game on the horizon feels much more hopeful than ever before.
Besides, after all these years, there is still a special something about the Alien franchise that has never faded away. Even though recent Alien movies failed to capture even a hint of what made Alien and Aliens two of the finest sci-fi films ever made, nothing has truly diminished the shine of their gold standard status.

Video games based on movies have a long history of being terrible. But there are a few licensed games that don’t just ride the coattails of successful films, they actually expand and add to them. Here are 12 video games that picked up the torches for stories started on film.
“The Thing” (1982)
John Carpenter’s 1982 horror movie finds a group of scientists trapped in an Antarctic research facility with an alien threat that takes over and imitates them. The film ends with awesome ambiguity: MacReady (Kurt Russell) and Childs (Keith David) staring each other down, neither sure if the other is actually a horrific alien in disguise. Though “The Thing” got a 2011 prequel, there was no answer to the 1982 movie’s final question on film.
“The Thing” (2002)
The video game answered that question when American soldiers return to the camp to find out what happened and face off lots more aliens on the way.

Some of sci-fi cinema’s most iconic monsters will soon be making their return to the realm of video games, it seems.
Based on the original 80s comic book series of the same name, Alien vs. Predator has been adapted for several forms of media over the years but its arguably developer Rebellion’s spin on the franchise that remains the most popular for a lot of fans. The studio first tried its hand at giving players the opportunity to take direct control of Xenomorphs and Yautja way back in 1994 for the Atari Jaguar, a fondly-remembered classic that would eventually spawn two sequels in 1999 and 2010, respectively. A gap of 11 years stands between the release of those two, and it’s a period destined to be repeated yet again, according to Daniel Richtman.
Over on Patreon, the prolific insider claims that another AvP game is in the works, though declines to provide any further details.

John Carpenter is rightly known as a master of horror. He’s responsible for classics like Halloween, The Thing, Prince of Darkness and They Live (not to mention kickass action movies Big Trouble in Little China, Escape From New York and Assault on Precinct 13). He’s also playing a major role behind the scenes on Blumhouse’s Halloween trilogy, providing a new synth score for each film. His work on Halloween (2018) was incredible and I can’t wait to see what he comes up over the next two years for Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends.
But today he’s getting a lot of positive buzz on social media due to his praise for the recently released Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. This is the latest in the long-running Assassin’s Creed video game series, with this instalment building on the open world designs of Origins and Odyssey but with a Viking twist.

That said, on the other side of the same coin, there’s a whole other world out there crammed with stress-inducing, controller-breaking frustration.
Indeed, while many gaming experiences are designed around the concept of pleasure and relaxation, there’re tons of titles that attempt to do the exact opposite to their playerbase. If you’ve been craving a dose of nightmare fuel to help keep you up till the early hours, then we may have the perfect sale for you. Yes, the Humble Store is currently running a promotion that nets PC players up to 85% off a bunch of popular horror titles. Not only will you be getting a significant saving, but the extensive list of games on offer is pretty diverse, too.
Indeed, from triple-a survival horror stalwarts like Resident Evil and The Evil Within to more under-the-radar indie projects like Layers Of Fear, Dead By Daylight and Outlast, if you’re in the market for a horror game, there’s sure to be a terror-inducing flavour on this list to suit your macabre tastes.
Specifically, headlining the sale is 2020’s excellent Resident Evil 3 remake. Our very own Eric Hall reviewed the title at launch and was super impressed with the retooled threequel.

If you’re on the hunt for some more discounted PlayStation games, Sony yet again has you covered.
To say the platform holder has been showing its generous side as of late would be an understatement, with hundreds, if not thousands of games, over the last couple of months having received some sort of discount. Granted, many of those titles receiving the biggest price cuts are also the oldest, but as far as video games are concerned, age is no signifier of quality – once a classic, always a classic. That being the case, then, if you missed out on any acclaimed triple-a releases such as Alien: Isolation, Watch Dogs 2 or Dragon Age: Inquisition when they originally released, now’s your chance to get them at a fraction of their usual asking price.
Due to the sheer volume of titles included in this particular sale, we’ve decided against sticking an exhaustive list in this article,...
