SIEGE

Talented filmmaker Deeptanshu Sinha takes us to a futuristic world in SIEGE. A sibling rivalry along with a love interest highlights most of the film, while executions and mob rule fill in the rest.

Two brothers are at odds after one of them killed their father. In the search of special armor, the one who obtains it will either be an evil force or the other a sign of hope.

At a budget of $5K(USD) the film has amazing cinematography and along with its booming sound, it fits beautifully within the superhero genre.

I honestly loved everything about this film. The dreamlike sequences are sometimes hard to follow, but the ocean setting makes you feel at ease.

Lastly, make peace with reality and learn from your experiences. Be a sign of "Hope", lift up to fight another day.

A Student Film that feels nothing like one
thenewdansbyg29 May 2019
I was able to meet Deeptanshu Sinha when both of our student films were selected at the Adrian International Film Festival in the United States, but I found it ironic that this film was in the student category. "Siege" has the visual effects style similar to "Blade Runner" and "Inception", which Deeptanshu told me were big inspirations surrounding the work. This film pushes the boundaries of what a student film can be. The visual effects, setting, plot structure, and acting made it feel like I was watching a big budget Hollywood production, not a film made by a college-aged student. It was a pleasure and honor to meet Deeptanshu and learn how he was able to create such a masterpiece (and yes, he won the best student film award for the festival we were both entered in). I see "Siege" being Deeptanshu's gateway to becoming a big name Hollywood director that has the same stylings as Christopher Nolan and Ridley Scott. There's no doubt I'll be seeing this guy winning an Oscar when he gets older.

A Student Film ?
TheBoyWhoLivedTwice24 May 2019
I saw this film at Caorle, Italy and during the first screening I was mind blown. The layered complexity of the plot, jaw dropping visuals, dialogues, acting, music and the superb sequences executed with some slick visual effects were a treat to watch. The second screening made me realize that the director (Deeptanshu Sinha) is no less than a genius. I discovered more details in the plot and the film which were there all along. It made me love the film even more as I longed for another screening. This film is beyond the normal standards of a student film and definitely isn't made by students. I am certain that the makers are a bunch of 40 year old professionals who just wanted to flex their muscles and thus got enrolled as students.

A combination of Stanley Kubrick and Christopher Nolan !!!

Warning: Spoilers
Siege is what you get when you combine Christopher Nolan's writing with Stanley Kubrick's symmetrical visuals. The film tells the story of a soldier who is in search for peace after his brother kills their father to become the commander of the city.

With this setup the writer/director takes you on an action packed journey which is both satisfying and thrilling at the same time. The action sequences showcase the visionary and brilliant mind of the director which keep one surprising and at the edge of their seats at all times. It is hard to pick a favourite scene or moment in the film as there are so many but the instant when the entire ocean comes to a standstill definitely stopped my heartbeat.

The film has strong and symmetrical visuals which depict grandeur at every moment and as the film progresses, it will definitely remind you of the likes Stanley Kubrick. The production design is humongous for a short film and quite a lot pays a subtle but beautiful homage to Blade Runner 2049 and Inception. There is a lot of Visual effects as it plays a huge role to adds to the grandeur and it is surprisingly well done as it keep you invested at all times. Sound and Music are also neatly done but the main highlight of this MASTERPIECE is its writing and editing.

The screenplay here has the right beats and the concept is well explored, executed in the short runtime. The stakes rise pretty fast in this short screenplay which turns out to be a winner as it is the least expected thing while watching the film. The characters are well crafted with effective and flavoured dialogues. They make the characters interesting and also enhance the performance of the actors, my favourite one being that of the commander. At times the dialogues send chills through ones spine especially when Arya says "We never find peace, we have to make peace with reality" as it feels it is directly being addressed to the audience.

The editing is crafted to perfection as the non linearity adds suspense to the amazingly written screenplay. Every scene is cut to perfection as it keeps you on the edge and leads to a satisfying but hopeful ending.

To conclude I would say this film is an experience from start to finish.
