Lady Hyde (2022)
Exploitation
This film nails the porno exploitation genre (short of actually being porn). The dialog and acting are completely forgettable, and the actors are obviously only given one shot not unlike the cheap soap operas. The aesthetic and filmography are on point but an improved musical score (not just classical piano solos) would do so much to pull this together make this a real work of art.
There are many scenes long and lingering on the female body. I don't think I've ever watch a movie before of this type that had as much female nudity for such long scenes without actually being a porn film and I'm still not sure if this was intentional of the artist.
Remember the Titans (2000)
Another Sports Movie
The only reason to see "another sports movie" is to see Denzel Washington as a football coach. It was well choreographed with good music & audio and excellent editing. What I find boring is the focus on the team winning. What I find important is the development of relationships and character. That is why I gave this movie an eight (8). Its actors & director tried hard to focus on relationships and character but the script played to a team focus. Watch and enjoy this movie. It almost made the "must see" list. If you're into sports movies this is on your "must see" list.
Left Behind (2000)
Is it sci-fi, mystery, action, or drama?
The catastrophe is stunning is scope yet remarkably simple. In realistic chilling detail the world takes on the realization that many of their friends and family are no longer with them. It begs the question "Would I be taken or left behind?" then presents a religious appeal to Christianity as the solution for their departure. The subject is Armageddon in nature and some of the cinematography is very sci-fi especially towards the beginning. It seemed as the film proceeded that the story line eroded even as a mysterious plot was mounting. The sensory side of the movie was compelling and unifying but almost seemed to distract from the developing story lines. Most difficult for me was the ending. Finally revealed was the true evil and good only to say "here we are and here we end." It was not a cliffhanger ending but instead a call for a sequel. Fun to watch! Sure, even good to recommend. But an unfortunately complicated plot that was never sure if it was a sci-fi, documentary, mystery, action, or religious drama.
Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins (1985)
MIB it ain't
Just watched this one last night on MAX or HBO (where the on-screen guide listed it with three stars) and wasn't disappointed. It has good action and good humor but although the story line is remarkably similar -- it ain't Men In Black. Action fans will not be disappointed unless you just like pyrotechnic explosions. It has more in common with Karate Kid than MIB. Action fans enjoy but don't expect anything too serious and you won't be disappointed because the dry wit humor of this flick really softens the blows. Not a must-see film in my book. A very 80's film.
NetForce (1999)
Read the book first and you will enjoy the movie more!
This enactment of Tom Clancy's book is pretty accurate to content of book aside from a little over dramatization of the "Bill Gates" character and his evil empire/web browser.
It's still not as dramatic as reading the book. I wish the pretty assassin had played a more prominent roll as well as... but, I don't want to ruin the story line for anyone.
Read the book first and you will enjoy the movie more.
