Magnolia (1999)
The greatest movie of all time.
Maybe you think I'm exaggerating a little (I have been known to obsess over movies that I like) but I do think Magnolia is the greatest movie ever made. I won't bore you with wannabe critisism about direction and acting because I hate to read those myself. Just know that P.T. Anderson is a genius and this movie is his best so far. I would like to take a minute and talk to you about all the "critics" here on the IMDb. I understand that it may be tempting to write ten paragraphs about a particular movie, maybe hoping that Roger Ebert will read it and dirty his pants with delight. But that just aint gonna happen. This is a sight for serious movie goers, not serious movie critics. What person leaves the movie theater and says, "There could have been better character development, and where was the exposition." Come off it people, we all liked Saving Private Ryan for the same reason, the blood and explosions, not the acting and cinematography (especially when Ed Burns was so horrible). Just say you liked it, or you didn't. Email me and tell me what you think.
Mission to Mars (2000)
Breach in the plot, this movie's going down.
I can't believe that Mike from New Jersey got the front page, this movie was terrible. The other science fiction movie he liked was "Steel Magnolias". C'mon people, a mission to the depths of my rear end would be more eventful and I guarantee you would find more intelligent life forms. I can't say anything good about this film other than the fact that it ended. The feel good moments would have made me puke if my entire body weren't paralyzed, caused by a sickening regret and that missing seven dollars in my wallet.
Hometown Boy Makes Good (1990)
The pre-"Mumford"
I knew that when I first saw a trailer for the Kasdan film "Mumford" that I'd seen it before. I even knew the name of the movie and who starred in it. That sounds pretty pathetic considering it only has ten votes to date and I think at least five of those belong to my brother and I (we thought it should at least have star rating). A movie can't truly exist until it has a star rating on the IMDb. Anyhow, I'm not saying "Hometown Boy Makes Good" is a masterpiece, certainly not, but it is an original (provided no one tells me otherwise). And who could turn down a movie with everyones favorite nerd, Anthony Edwards.
Captiva Island (1995)
Thrills, chills and diddly dills!
I saw this movie for the first time about a year ago with my brother, and 107 viewings and a video purchase later, this is the most "TREASURED" item in my collection. Captiva Island is a non-stop thrill ride with Die Hardian action and Pulp Fictiony dialogue. The script was superb, the direction magnificent, and the acting was masterful (notably, Ernest Borgnine as the happy fat guy). If there's one movie you folks need to see this lifetime, Captiva Island is it. This one is a 10.
