Cry Freedom (1987)

Breath taking
19 February 2005
'Cry Freedom' is a movie about how far people will go to find the truth.

The first half is an interesting portrayal of an unlikely friendship between activist Steve Biko and Editor Don Woods (played fanatically by Dezel Washington and Kevin Klein). While the second half deals with Woods looking for answers on Biko's death.

Although most people favor the first half of the movie which focuses on the unlikely friendship between Biko and Woods'. I found the second half about Don woods struggle to have Biko's story be heard around the world much more interesting.

About a hour too long...

Arttificial Intelligence, has a real good story line, one filled with many emotions the strongest one being love. For the most part I thought that the script was the strongest part of the movie. I like the combination of sci-fi with a fariy tale.

The acting was nothing more than mediorce with the exception of Hayley Joel Osment and Jude Law. I found the direction and special effects heavy handed. I also thought that the last half hour of the movie WAS TOTALLY UNNESSARY, and the first part of the movie moved very slowly.

Fantasic film
18 March 2001
'Some Mother's Son' is one of the best movies I have seen in quite a while. Helen Mirren plays Kathleen Quinlin, a mother of a man who is secretly in the IRA. When he is imprisioned for murder Mirren finds her self torn between her hate towards the IRA and supporting her son. When the IRA prisoners start a hunger strike Mirren will do what ever nessary to save her son.

These days it's hard to find a movie that both based on a true story and interesting to watch. I really enjoyed this movie and was really surprised that I never heard about this hunger strike that took the lives of ten men between the ages of 22 and 30.

Everything about this movie is perfect, but the best part is the performance given by Helen Mirren.

Very original story...
27 February 2001
I recently saw this short on Canadian Reflections on CBC I thought that it was a very original story. I got to see it for a second time today in one of my classes. The Writer and director is one of my teachers and this story is just as strong as the other work she has shown us. I only wish that one day I could make films like her.

Emotionally Haunting...
2 January 2001
I must admit that the first time I saw this film, I just didn't get it. It was my first Egoyan film experience and at the time I didn't care to ever see the movie again. Recently I caved and decided to give the film another try, and I can not put into words how moved I was.

It makes you wonder what you would do if you were ever stuck in any of these peoples shoes. What if you were the bus driver of a crash that killed many of the town's children. What if you were one of the only survivors of a bus crash and every one of looking to you for answers? What if your only child(ren) died, how could you go on living? What if you were a laywer just looking for new clients, and had to deal with your own failing relationship with your only child?

I don't think that I have ever seen a more talented cast. And I don't think that Sarah Polley, Bruce Greenwood, or Ian Holm's performances will ever be drilled out of my head. Because these three people make you feel their pain, and their sadness.

Egoyan has given us a master piece,a film that keeps us thinking even days after we have watched it. I don't know why I didn't like it the first time, many a little tempory insanity. But I know now this movie has given me a deep respect for Canadian Cinema, and I hope one day I can make a film that is as moving and truthful as this one.

A wonderful must see. . .

I just saw this movie at the Toronto Film Festival, And I have to say that this is by far the best movie that i have seen in a long time. The performances by the three key players are dead on, and the direction is flawless. It is just too bad that this movie hasn't found a distributer for North America.
