John Ford, l'homme qui inventa l'Amérique (2019)
A tribute to John Ford and his movies.
A detailed look at John Ford's films and how they still are relevant in today's society.
"Ford said that his job was to tell stories, not play politics." Then the documentary looks at The Grapes of Wrath.
Listen to what the thieving Banker says in Stagecoach. "America for Americans." Reduced taxes." "Government must not interfere with business." " What this country needs is a businessman for President." Here we have a White-Collar Criminal spewing the same old con that we hear today.
Sergeant Rutledge is given the credit it deserves. More people need to see this movie today.
Finally, we get a chance to revisit Monument Valley.
TCM has the film available currently to stream on demand. Check it out, you will be glad that you did.
The D.I. (1957)
A NoGo
What a stinker. How can anyone believe that this dreck is worthwhile? I went through basic training. This is nonsense. Complete baloney.
Ride the High Country (1962)
Morality, honor, and duty.
This is an important western because the subplot of a young woman's life in the remote west is addressed. At this time many women were looked upon as chattel. Here a young woman escapes farm life with an overbearing religious father who beats her, to flee into marriage with a redneck miner who beats her and plans to share her with his brothers and father. The lead character played by veteran Joel McCrea is trying to earn an honorable living because there is no pension or social security benefits for him to rely on. Randolph Scott is trying to score some easy dough to last during his retirement. A fine movie about morality, honor, and duty.
Killing Me Softly (2002)
Heather is easy on the eye, have the pause key ready...
The UR version was well worth a rental. DVD picture is breathtaking at times. Plot fell flat, but there is so much to enjoy. A wonderful blend of the appearance of innocence, and pure wanton lust. "Killing Me Softly" would have been a perfect movie for the drive-in.
