Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011)
An Incomplete Story
This is a story in three parts. The first part begins with confusion, a girl in a curious situation with strange unidentified people. I struggle to figure out the situations and relationships. There are many flashbacks to add to the mystery and confusion. The second part - the situation develops and comes into focus. A potentially interesting story is developing. The relationships and motives of the characters become clearer. Still many delusions, and flashbacks. It is hard to tell what is real and what is imagined, but the story really has my interest by this time. The suspense is building.
The third part - Surprise, there is no third part. The credits roll and the movie is over. What! Did they run out of film or forget to write the last, and most critical part of the story. This movie left me feeling deceived and cheated. Why did I waste two hours of my time struggling to follow a complex story that came to absolutely no conclusion whatsoever. The acting was pretty good. The movie had potential, after the first two parts, to be a very memorable one, but turned out to be a total disappointment. I generally prefer for an author to provide a clever or satisfying ending to conclude a movie but I have seen several movies lately that left the viewer to imagine the ending. This is the most extreme case of this technique that I have encountered. It ruined the movie for me.
The Change-Up (2011)
My Nomination for Worst Movie of the Year
Two irresponsible yuppies get plastered one evening in a bar. While taking a lengthy urination into a public fountain, the cement goddess of the fountain decides to change their brains and bodies.
My first impression of this movie was that the acting was pathetically poor. After watching further it occurred to me that the storyline is so absurd that no actor could possibly get a grip on it. The movie attempts make up for the stupid acting and storyline with massive pornography and foul language. I am no prude. I enjoy some good raunchy humor as much as anyone, but after about 45 minutes of this movie I was grossed out. I think the final straw was when Ryan repeatedly dropped F bombs on the cute little 6 year old girl in the car. My standards of decency may be pretty loose, but this was too much for me. I very rarely fail to finish a movie, but I flushed this piece of excrement, and saved 30 minutes of torture. I found very little humor in this movie.
I can't imagine what kind of parents would allow their child to be subjected to such filth in making a movie. People are arrested for having pornographic conversations on the internet with underage children, but here it is on public display.
This movie is a despicable waste of time. I am astonished that there are favorable reviews on it (or that it was ever produced in the first place).
Hobo with a Shotgun (2011)
My Choice for Worst movie of the year
I was a little put off by the title and synopsis of this movie, but after seeing that it is rated pretty highly by viewers and critics, I decided to give it a try. I was astonished at how bad this movie is. It is bad on so many levels it is hard to adequately describe. It is enough to destroy my confidence in the movie rating systems. The acting is pitiful, below the level of a high school play. The storyline is beyond my imagination. The props look fake, like extremely low budget. Details in the film are incredible, for example, a girl gets her head nearly cut off with a saw, goes to the hospital emergency, dies and is revived, then is nearly healed a few hours later. The only redeeming value for a movie this bad might be to have a few drinks and make fun of how bad the movie is. This is the worst movie I have seen this year (or maybe several years).
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006)
Bizarre adult fairy tale
The basic plot of this movie is extremely bizarre and far from reality. I guess the author intended it as some kind of obscene adult fairy tale. In the beginning it was hard to decide if the author wanted this to be a comedy or a drama. I wonder what kind of person would fabricate a tale in which the hero is a twisted perverted serial killer. From reading some of the other comments the author was successful in making many of the viewers identify and sympathize with the pervert.
I would consider this film as the lowest form of obscenity. I wonder what kind of drugs the author and producer were using when they produced this worthless piece of porn. It bothers me that so many people consider this great entertainment.
Unbreakable (2000)
Slow moving and disjointed, unbelievable plot
Too many stray unrelated scenes. The movie seemed to just drift around from scene to scene.
Main storyline is very weak. Hard to keep from dozing off. Surprise ending was a dud.
