The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live (2024)
Absolute Drivel
No idea how this show is getting such high ratings. The plot is atrociously bad, lazy writing, the plot relies on convenient coincidences, plot armor, and characters stupidity to drive the plot forward. If you are a person who expects even the most minimal amount of logic and cohesion behind the writing and characters, you will not enjoy this show. If you can turn your brain off and just accept the show for the low effort trash that it is, you might enjoy it.
If any of the characters had even half a brain this show would be over in one episode, Michonne and Rick act so unbelievably stupid that they must collectively share one half of a braincell. Seriously, it's unreal how dumb the things they do are. Whether its Michonne randomly deciding to try and charge through a horde of tens of thousands of walkers for no reason and almost dying just to be saved by convenient plot armor, instead of you know, just going around. Or standing and watching an attack helicopter loaded with giant missiles fly over you, and then stand there and wait for it to turn around, come back, and shoot at you, before you know running away and taking cover like any person with half a brain would do. Again, only Michonne survives this cause plot armor.
Seriously, why did they make Rick into an idiot? He was there for over 5 years and never once thought to join their ranks and play along? Really? He cut his hand off for a stupidly small chance he could escape, and cauterized his wound on a walkers body, like come on now. I can only suspend my disbelief so much. After all that stupidity, some guy on a park bench just tells him "hey maybe just join them and play along" and Rick acts like he never once thought of the idea. Really??? Nobody is this stupid especially not Rick Grimes.
Speaking of insane levels of plot armor, like Rick somehow surviving a grenade exploding the person sitting right next him, surviving the crash of the helicopter, and then also conveniently finding his wife all in one swift motion. Or stopping and staying the night in a collapsing building but also taking the time to have sex and talk through their issues while the building literally crumbles above their heads. Episode 4 in particular really pissed me off, they go from urgently trying to escape the collapsing building to having sex, then talking through their issues, then trying to escape and then stopping to talk more, and then trying to escape again, the episode just goes in circles over and over again in the worst ways possible. The show goes from zero urgency to total urgency at random with no discernible reasons other than bad writing. It's exhaustingly bad, a mentally and physically draining chore to watch this show and try to take it seriously.
Michonne might be the worst mother in the world as well. She abandoned her children, missed the entirety of their childhoods. Gone for years wandering aimlessly looking for someone who may or may not still be alive. Any rational person knows that your children always come first, so for her to selfishly abandon them during their formative years just to go get her man back is actually unbelievable.
Seriously who wrote this? I have seen actual elementary school children write stories with more sense than anything in this show. I truly mean that, whoever wrote this show should be ashamed of themselves for putting this out.
From day one AMCs business model for the walking dead has been quantity over quality. As soon as they realized season 1 was a hit, they fired the director who made season 1 so good. Then they slashed the shows budget, despite its newfound popularity. They wanted more episodes, made with less money, so they could fit more time for commercials and ads. Quite literally using the shows success as a cash cow.
This franchise once boasted over 17 million viewers, now they only average around 500,000. Thats 98% of their viewership gone. 16.5 million people who grew tired of this shows bad writing, nonsensical plotlines, constant soap opera drama thats only purpose is to pad the show and make it longer than it needs to be, or the mishandling of characters effectively ruining the character, or simply killing them off. Causing irreversible damage to the shows overall plot. In my opinion this franchise shouldve been dead and buried many years ago.
The walking dead franchise is a shambling rotting corpse of its former self. There is a poetic irony in that. Let it finally die. Please.
Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)
Boring, Too Long, Bad Acting, Revisionist Drivel
The movie is absurdly long, felt long by time we hit the hour and a half mark, and felt unsufferable by time the third hour rolled around. Honestly the movies worst attribute is that its possibly the biggest waste of three hours I have ever engaged in.
Half of the scenes drag on needlessly, are meaningless to the overall story, or just seem out of place completely. The rest of the scenes are just a retelling of what we already know and expect is going to happen before it happens. The movie tries too hard to seem deep and artistic, when in reality it is shallow and predictable. You know who the main villain is in the first 5 minutes of the movie and after that it's just a painfully long 3 hours and 30 minutes of waiting to see what happens to the bad guy. There is no twist, no surprise, no subtlety, just an obvious bad guy doing obvious bad guy things and somehow everyone is oblivious to it. If anything, the movie just makes the natives out to be completely incompetent.
The story itself is a mess, it doesn't even seem to know where it's going the entire movie, the cinematography and abrupt cuts certainly don't help its cohesion any either. The ending and court scene are possibly the lamest end to a movie I have seen in a long time. The abrupt cut to the "theatre retelling" of the story is just there to waste another few minutes of your time and pretend that it's telling a good story while it does.
The characters are almost cartoonishly simplistic in morality. Either being evil or good and essentially nothing in between. The movie had 3 hours and 30 minutes to explore the characters, their goals, their ambitions, their reasons, and yet it does nothing with that time. All vvhite characters except the FBI agents are just outright evil, one dimensional bad guys for you to point at and say "yep thats the bad guy."
The film itself is overtly anti-vvhite at times, with scenes dedicated to portraying vvhites as a "sea of evil" despite the people being shown and focused on by the camera just being average people who have done nothing to harm anyone. You can tell a story of historical wrongs without painting an entire race as bad. That scene in particular is strange, because she is at a train station watching vvhite people get off the train, but as far as remember she wasn't even there to get on the train or anything, just to stare down a bunch of vvhite people and call them evil for no real reason.
The novel tells the story in a much more authentic and real way, with characters being broad in morals and emotion. Whereas the film simplifies it into this color is bad, this color is good. None of the villains have even an ounce of humanity or personality, they are just portrayed as one-dimensional bad guys. This film is an insult to the actual story in my opinion.
The native chiefs scene was another big swing and miss, with all the chiefs having southern accents, like straight out of Alabama or something. Really makes it hard to focus on the scene at hand, or take the story seriously when the people playing natives dont even sound native.
The acting is just weird, everyone seems outright uncomfortable or stiff the entire time, as if they all were given laxatives right before filming the scenes. Brendan Frasier as the lawyer was just laughable honestly. He was so over the top I couldn't tell if his character was supposed to be so ridiculous. Dicrapio just looks like a weird mix of sad, constipated, and upset all the time the entire movie. Deniro is just Deniro but evil.
Overall, not worth watching at all. Just read the novel if you want to actually read the real story.
A Little Late with Lilly Singh (2019)
Pandering Wokeness At It's Finest!
It didn't even take the first 5 minutes before she was bringing up race and sexual orientation. Her "jokes" are forced and the laughter of the audience more so, she proves in the first opening minutes that she will have no actual jokes or material for the entirety of the "show" though I use the term show lightly as this is more akin to torture. Any show that encourages literal racism as funny is beyond toxic and I have no idea what show creators are thinking when they make this stuff. It's like she doesn't understand the difference between telling a joke and being completely racist. They are pandering to a extremely small crowd of people who will likely never watch the show anyway. It's a standard run of the mill woke pandering show that is doomed to fail with the rest and I'll be happy to watch it crash and burn. Imagine if a show with a white host made jokes about any minority, they would be rained fury upon by every news outlet on the internet. Yet this lady can casually say racist things with no repercussions and is instead applauded cause racism is only cool and funny when it's against whites. She publicly apologized for telling a joke about turbans but would never in a thousand years apologize for racism towards white people. Thanks for promoting racism lilly, really making the world a better place.
