When Calls the Heart: Rock, A Bye, Baby (2022)
In some aspects nice
I started watching again. And I write a review from a TN perspective. First and foremost, TL members who yell here at Team Nathan, I'm going to ask you a question. Some of you have asked us, TN, after last season to rewatch and see the story not only from our perspective. And I did. Even after that, I would have prefered the other outcome, but I am perfectly fine with Elizabeth choosing Lucas and I can stand Lucas perfectly fine. So now, I'd like you to ask you a question. Think about S9 from a Nathan fan perspective. What did we get this season? I think if there was one thing all of TN wanted was seeing Nathan and Allie. What did we get? 2 whole minutes in 12 episodes of 1-to-1 time. Yes, she calls him dad now and that scene was nice, but they were not even together in this season finale, only for a short scene with Mei. Speaking of Mei, why on earth do you even think about hinting at another triangle for Nathan and have fans debating it with each other. Really: why? And then: the friendship with Elizabeth and Lucas that is so forced upon us,. All in all, yes there were nice moments for TN but overall it was not that satisfying. This while many of the previews focused on Nathan. With those we were seduced to join the party (*read: give money and ratings to pay for the party) and once we entered the party we needed to go the the back room to see Team Lucas having a blast. I hope some of TL yelling at us here can see how it was for Nathan fans and why we are not rating the show with all 10s. It was also not a 1 or 2 for me. I tried to give an honest rating from my perspective. And that is a 5 for the season as a whole.
When Calls the Heart: Hope Valley Days: Part 1 (2022)
It is over for me
I tried to watch this season, I really hoped for good stories and I love many characters. But after episode 7 I am out. 19 episodes of hardly anything positive for one of themain characters is a bit too many. Moreover, what is the story that the writers tell? Everything is all over the place. And all these10 ratings reviews here are as over the top as most of the acting. So WCTH, this was it, after 8 5 seasons.
When Calls the Heart: Past, Present, Future (2022)
Not much happened
This was an episode where not much happened. There were some nice scenes but overall it was boring. We saw Nathan's second kind of date with Mei. He is not very nice to her, so why would he ask her out? Still guarded? But with Elizabeth he is not, so that feels weird. Why keeping Elizabethso involved in Nathan's and Allie's life? Why not others? Elizabeth acts like the stepmom she is not going to be. Talking about Elizabeth, could the writers please come up with more variation in the scenes between Elizabeth and Lucas? We now know they admire each other and like to kiss each other preferably in public and that they don't have any argument as Lucas charmes his way out of everything. Involve them with other people please. Finally, what happened to Lee and Rosemary? I love them but this year Lee seems like a different person.
For those Lucas fans complaining about Nathan fans here: I do watch before I review. And my rating is what I feel and this year it is between 4 and 6, so I am not lying. Why I am still watching? I used to love this show just like you did, I love most of the characters just like you do. But to me this season is just not a ten, sorry.
When Calls the Heart: Journey into the Light (2022)
Best episode so far
Finally an episode where I could keep my eyes open from the beginning to the end. Allie is back and that made Nathan becoming more of himself again.
What is nagging me is that for me Erin Krakow and Kevin McGarry bring out the best in each other when it comes to acting. The scene where Sargeant bowes and Nathan asks Elizabeth where he learned it was in all its simplicity so powerful. And while I don't mind Lucas and Elizabeth being together I just don't see this level of acting between those two. Elizabeth seems to turn into a different person with Lucas and it is not for the best. We have seen a few potential conflicts and all of them did not last longer than a minute because Lucas charmed his way out of it and she let go and hey, let's start kissing him! Sorry, but that is not the basis for a healthy relationship. It's time his past issue comes up to give that relationship a bit more depth and show it more as a real relationship of people in their 30s instead af two people in their 30s acting like teenagers (oops...)
For now I keep on watching as I see the Nathan story line progressing a bit and Allie is back which always is fun.
When Calls the Heart: Straight From the Heart (2022)
It's getting more boring with each episode
I already wrote that I really wanted to look and like S9. But it is getting utterly boring. Elizabethand Lucas? What 30 year old woman talks like that to her suitor, using a baby voice? There are too many of the same boring scenes with E+L together and separately while other storylines are cut short. Next week Allie is back. I'll watch that but will skip most of the rest.
When Calls the Heart: Turn of the Page (2022)
Slightly better than two previous ones
This was the best episode so far, yet still it could not really keep my attention. I loved Newton in these last two episodes and how he also portrays the struggles of his Mountie rider. Also I liked team FloMoYo this episode as well as the Canfields. Nathan still is not his old self and I hope that when Allie returns we will see him a bit more happier. Still not into a potential relationship between Mei and him. What bothered me most this episode was Elizabeth. While I like Lucas, also in his relationship with Elizabeth, I was almost yelling to my screen when I saw her. Her voice.... which 30 (or 30+) old talks to her love interest like a 14 year old? The balcony scene could have been so much more interesting would she have behaved more like an adult (like Lucas). She still is rather self-centered, it is all about her needs and wishes. Lucas, come on, your wishes and needs count as much as hers! And the wordt think of the evening was the reviews. I have only one reaction: why?
When Calls the Heart: Out Like a Lamb (2022)
Rushed yet boring
I so wanted to enjoy S9. I sticked around although the S8 finale was not what I hoped for. Now I'm doubting more and more to keep on watching. I actually had to watch this episode twice as I literally fell asleep. There are too many storylines and they are all too hasty. Nathan seems to be used for comic relief this season and for one reason or another, it does nothing for me. As much asI like Kevin McGarry as an actor, these two episodes just did not justice to what he is capable of. Also, I'm not so interested in the friendship he develops with Elizabeth and Lucas. It feels forced and also too soon. I miss Allie. And Mei Suo is a potential live interest for Nathan but I don't feel the sparks between at all.
I think that for Lucabeth lovers, this season must be heaven, so if you are a Lucabeth fan, enjoy. But if you, like I am, are rather indifferent towards them, it is actually pretty boring.
So all in all, it was a hard episode for me. I've decided to watch until E4 and if it does not get any better, I'm out.
When Calls the Heart: In Like a Lion (2022)
Bit of a boring start of the season
When reading the reviews I don't recognize my opinion in them. I'm not overly thrilled about the season opening but I als don't think it was very bad. I liked to see all characters again. And there was a setup for some nice storylines. Yet, I found most of the acting a bit stiff and less natural than it used to be. They tried some humor but for me it did not work. Overall, I enjoyed some moments, f.e. The breakfast of Bill&the Canfields in the cafe, the moment LJ sees Mei, the longing way Nathan looks at the balloon. Nathan stays a favorite although I did not really like his storyline so far. To summarize: I found it nice but a bit boring.
