Sammy J & Randy in Ricketts Lane (2015)
One of the ABC's best and most detailed comedy series to date.
This is one of the rudest, yet funniest shows I've seen in ages. Every episode has so many comedic layers, I was always second guessing myself with how many twists and turns and I could not stop laughing all throughout. It also has such a beautiful pacing, it went from beginning to end without it getting boring in the slightest. I also loved how dated everything looked, from the set design, to the filters they used in post-production, it all feels like a love letter to the 80s.
Unfortunately, this show was not successful when it first aired on Australian television. Barely anyone saw this show when it came out, but, fortunately it is on ABC IVIEW if you ever want to watch it.
Money Plane (2020)
Truly Explosive!!!
I love it when they hire the best cast for any movie and this has the best cast ever. I also love it when the actors turn me on, with all those muscles. Especially how amazing Kelsey Grammar is in this film. I need to see this film again soon because I have to be reminded of how lucky I am to not be on an in the air casino heist with a bunch of criminals. 42069/10.
Kotpanum chonio (1972)
The "Citizen Kane" of North Korea isn't as good as you'd think it would be.
The Flower Girl is a North Korean film which is known to be the "Citizen Kane of North Korea" and I'll just tell you right now that it's nowhere near the quality of Citizen Kane, so don't expect much from this film.
The story is set during the 1930s, and is based on the anti-Japanese guerrilla movement during the period of Japanese occupation in Korea. A poor, rural girl, around whom the plot is centred, picks flowers on the mountain every day to sell at the market, to care for her ill mother.
This movie feels so unnecessary in existing and I have so many questions for this movie because of the plot-holes they've created in the structure of this story. So straight away I already found a way to improve the movie. Because of how many songs are sung during the film, why not make it a musical? It would be a more enjoyable and impressive movie if they made it a musical because of how unneeded they are due to the story being SO predictical to the movie because we know what's going to happen next. For a simpler way to show people how the little sister went blind, why not just put it at the start of the movie, instead of having it as a flashback 25 minutes into the movie? It would make the story flow better and make it less complicated to follow. I could go on all day with the plot-holes that the story created, but I just want to point out 1 more thing: There is a random narrator that comes in once during the movie and never narrates anything again. WHY?! That's very lazy writing, I'm not impressed at all, writers.
The songs in this movie are pretty, yet useless to the movie, because all they do is sing about what just happened in that very same scene. I don't have much else to add to the songs.
I will give credit to the child actors in this movie, I think their performances are pretty decent compared to the adults in this movie. Speaking of the other actors in this movie, I think the acting is okay at best. I don't find any performances memorable except for the woman who made the little sister blind.
What makes this movie seem comedic to me that it feels like a Shakespeare ripoff. Every moment is a tragedy that's happening around every 5-10 minutes. But that is what makes this film so predictable, you know what's going to happen around every corner because it's always been a tragic moment through the plot. Not to mention how slow the pacing seems to be felt dragged out for way too long.
Another problem I came across with this movie is the character development. To make your characters mean something to the story, you have to make some development to your characters otherwise it'll make the movie more forgettable. It's simple stuff, and doesn't take long to come up with, always make your characters interesting and/or relatable with your storytelling.
Overall, This film has no meaning. I was very underwhelmed and disappointed with The Flower Girl and I don't know why North Korea thinks that this is their best film, but it might be cultural differences compared to the films we have overseas. I don't know what North Korea's other films are like but from a foreigner's point of view, I don't think that this is the best film that North Korea can offer to me.
Shock Treatment (1981)
This is the most underrated film I have ever seen.
When I went into this movie, I was thinking: "Oh god this is going to be AWFUL" but I thought it was a witty, charming (in a way), ahead of it's time and overall amazing.
This is the lesser-known sequel/equal to The Rocky Horror Picture Show (which I believe is NOT either of those because it really doesn't feel like it is! You can argue ALL you want with me if it is or not, but I just don't think it is.)
The plot is: Square Brad (Played by Cliff De Young) and Janet (played by Jessica Harper) are forced to be contestants on a TV game show called "Marriage Maze." And that's it, they didn't go very deep with the plot.
Though there are a couple of flaws to this movie (as with ANY sequel), first of all Janet (played by Jessica Harper) in this movie has a low voice compared to the Janet that was played by Susan Sardandon in the RHPS had an almost squeaky voice at points, There is a plot-hole or 2 in there, why is everyone living in a TV studio? Is that what everyone did in the 1980s? I know it was a pretty weird time but still... sometimes the acting is just outright bizarre, and not in the Rocky Horror way, and a couple more that I couldn't think of off the top of my head.
But on the upside the soundtrack is amazing, I had "you need a bit of, OOOOO Shock Treatment!" stuck in my head for a week, I love the weird yet experimental ideas they had for the roller-coaster of a movie and I was laughing every 10 seconds! The comedy is VERY witty and worked almost every time!
I'd recommend it if you're looking for a weird indie film.
Pokémon: Detective Pikachu (2019)
Better then inspected.
Well, I finally found a video-game based movie that is actually good!
I wasn't inspecting much when I sat down in my seat at the cinema, but at the end of the movie, I thought It was witty with a well structured plot and
had stunning cinematography.
What was a letdown (sorry if you might consider this as a spoiler or not) is that anyone over the age of 10 could see the plot-twist coming from a mile away but that didn't bother me too much.
I absolutely LOVED the cast in this movie! Ryan Reynolds as Pickachu was HILARIOUS! Me and my sister was cracking up with laughter every time he spoke!
I designs on the Pokemon in this movie is beautiful, I love the details in the furr that they used for the Pokemon, and they stuck to the original designs as much as they can (unlike OTHER movies... *coughs* Sonic Trailer).
I personally think that they tried to put in a lot of effort for this movie and it pretty much paid off. I wouldn't give it any higher then an 8 and I would feel bad for giving this movie a 7.
