This Is Where I Leave You (2014)
A fun comedy drama movie with a phenomenal cast
Just finished watching this movie and I had a lot of fun with This Is Where I Leave You (2014). While this movie does have its issues, I still was able to have fun especially with the cast.
Positives for This Is Where I Leave You (2014):
Once again and I'm sounding like a broken record, but the cast of actors in this movie is absolutely phenomenal. This cast includes Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Jane Fonda, Adam Driver, Rose Byrne, Corey Stoll, Kathryn Hahn, Connie Britton, Timothy Olyphant and
Ben Schwartz. I've been wowed by how Shawn Levy is able to bring together a cast of phenomenal actors to his movies. I also liked this movie's premise of this family having to stay at their house after the death of their father. I also enjoy the journey that this family goes on, they all went from hating each other to loving each other by the end.
Negatives for This Is Where I Leave You (2014):
There is a subplot involving Jason Bateman and his ex girlfriend that I feel was completely out of place and was combating over the dysfunctional family drama. And finally, there is a plot twist involving the mother of this family that I felt came completely out of nowhere and it was weird with how they execute it.
Overall, This Is Where I Leave You (2014) is an enjoyable comedy drama movie with a cast of actors and actresses that I love amd it's definitely a movie that I'll recommend to people just to see this cast of actors in this movie.
Jurassic World: Chaos Theory (2024)
NETFLIX MAKE SEASON 2 HAPPEN NOW!!!!!
I was a big fan of Camp Cretaceous and it's easily the best entry of the Jurassic Park Franchise to date, so I decided to binge watch all of Chaos Theory in one day and this show is an easy #3 in the Jurassic Park Franchise.
Positives for Jurassic World: Chaos Theory (2024-):
This show is a lot darker and mature than its predecessor. This show takes the premise that was briefly explore in The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), but this show expands upon that premise and takes it to new levels. I still really enjoy all of these characters and it was great to see them continue their stories through this new story. And finally, this show ends off with an awesome cliffhanger that I hope gets explored in Season 2.
Overall, Jurassic World: Chaos Theory (2024-) is a awesome continuation to this animated Jurassic World Universe and while it's not a awesome as Camp Cretaceous, it's still an amazing animated show.
The Society (2019)
DAMN YOU NETFLIX!!!!!
So I heard about this show a couple of years ago and it has taken me this long to watch this show. The thing that drew me to this show was one name: Christopher Keyser, one of the co-creators of Party of Five (1994-2000). Just finished watching The Society (2019) today and I really enjoyed it a lot, but at the same time I'm pissed that this show got cancelled cause there was a lot that they could've explored a lot more with this premise.
Positives for The Society (2019):
The premise of this show is what drew me and a lot of other people to this show, a group of teenagers learning how to run their community after everyone else has mysteriously disappeared. This is a premise that could've been one of those generic "kids not caring about anything with all of the adults gone" shows, but thankfully this show doesn't do that. I really appreciated that this show took a realistic approach to this situation and how a lot of these teenagers would react. I really liked a lot of the characters in particular Allie Pressman played by Kathryn Newton and Elle Tomkins played by Olivia DeJonge.
Negatives for The Society (2019):
The thing that annoyed me the most about this show is that they ended this show off with a great cliffhanger and we will never find out what will happen, because the show got cancelled and yes I understand that this show got cancelled because of COVID-19, but they could've waited until it was okay for them to film Season 2. It really pisses me off when great shows get cancelled and terrible shows are allowed to continue.
Overall, The Society (2019) is one of the most interesting dystopian teen drama show with is saying a lot. But man, the fact that we'll probably never get the conclusion to this story really annoys me.
The Internship (2013)
What a fun comedy movie!
This was a first time watch for me and after watching I really enjoyed it.
Positives for The Internship (2013):
The comedic duo of Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson is awesome which isn't surprising given how good they were in Wedding Crashers (2005). Also, the cast is stacked as always when it comes to these Shawn Levy movies. The cast includes Rose Byrne, Max Minghella, Dylan O'Brien, Josh Gad, Harvey Guillen, John Goodman, B. J. Novak, Rob Riggle and Will Ferrell. I also really enjoyed the premise of this rag tag group of people working at Google. I also really enjoyed the dynamic with our main group of characters as they rise through the rankings of Google.
Negatives for The Internship (2013):
The movie is a little bit too long for me. There are several times where the movie's pacing slowed down.
Overall, I really enjoyed The Internship (2013) and while there are so flaws with the movie, I still had a fun time.
Real Steel (2011)
Why is no one talking about this movie more because it's phenomenal!
This was only the second of 4 Shawn Levy movies that I watched prior to my binge watch of his filmography, in fact this is the Shawn Levy movie that I've rewatches the most time along with Night at the Museum (2006). Also, this is the only Shawm Levy movie that I've watched in the theater and yes it's because this was a movie about robot boxing with Hugh Jackman as the main character. However in the years to come, I don't hear a lot of people talking about this movie and I don't understand why that it is. So, I decided to give this movie a fresh watch as an adult and I am pleased say that this movie has aged like fine wine and I am still baffled that no one is taking about this movie.
Positives for Real Steel (2011):
The thing I appreciate about this movie, especially as an adult, is the story about the journey of a father reconnecting with his son through the sport of Robot Boxing in a manner similar to Rocky (1976). It goes without but Hugh Jackman is awesome in this movie as Charlie Kenton who in the beginning is a very bitter man who is able to grow and become a better man and father to his son at the end of the movie. I also really enjoyed Dakota Goyo as the son. You also have Kevin Durand as the enemy to Charlie and he's also very good as that guy you just want to knockout cold and it was so satisfying to see him get his comeuppance. This movie was also my introduction to both Anthony Mackie and Evangeline Lilly. I also really liked the character of Atom, which is impressive due to the fact that this character is a computer generated effect and I champion any movie that achieves that goal. Also, this movie has an amazing pace to it especially for a 2-hour movie where I was never bored throughout the runtime. And finally as an adult, I appreciate that this movie is the complete opposite to the Michael Bay directed Transformers where the main selling point of the movie are the robot fights and in between those fights, you get some great characters moments with great human characters and the fights themselves are just the icing on the cake.
Overall, Real Steel (2011) is one of the most underrated movies that I've watched in my life and it is hands down the best movie in Shawn Levy's filmography. This is a movie that deserves more attention and love from people because Real Steel (2011) is the real deal and it is simply phenomenal.
Date Night (2010)
Steve Carrell and Tina Fey are comedy icons.
This is yet another first time watch for me and I held a lot of hope because it has Steve Carrell and Tina Fey as the lead characters and I'm so happy that I held onto that hope because this movie is awesome. This is one of those movies that could've been directed by anyone, but it's definitely one of the better ones of that group.
Positives for Date Night (2010):
Once again like a lot of other Shawn Levy movies, this movie has a phenomenal cast of actors. This cast includes the likes of Steve Carell, Tina Fey, Mark Wahlberg, Taraji P. Henson, Jimmi Simpson, Common, William Fichtner, Leighton Meester, Kristen Wiig, Mark Ruffalo, James Franco, Mila Kunis, Gal Gadot, Jon Bernthal, will.i.am and Ray Liotta. The movie's premise is ridiculous, but Shawn Levy is able to execute that premise with comedy brilliance. Steve Carrell and Tina Fey have phenomenal comedic chemistry, which is something that I expect from a movie with both Michael Scott and Liz Lemon. There are comedic sequences where you have a ridiculous sequences of events that are absolutely phenomenal.
Negatives for Date Night (2010):
The movie's premise is absolutely ludicrous and you have to suspend your disbelief to enjoy it.
Overall, Date Night (2010) was a huge surprise for me and it's definitely one of the Shawn Levy movies that I'll definitely champion for years to come.
Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (2009)
So much better than the original!
Aside from the final act, this was a first time watch for me which surprised given how much I enjoy the first time. After watching this movie, I can easily say that Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (2009) is infinitely better than the original in every way possible.
Positives for Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (2009):
The cast in this movie is absolutely phenomenal where have a much bigger cast and even more fun characters. Aside from some of returning cats members, this time around the cast also includes Amy Adams, Mindy Kaling, Hank Azaria, Jon Bernthal, Bill Hader, Jay Burachel, Craig Robinson and even Clint Howard. I also enjoyed the story even more than the original. Ben Stiller is still great as Larry Daley. Hank Azaria as Kahmunrah is a far more entertaining villain than the trios from the original. And finally, the action sequences in this movie are awesome especially in the third act.
Overall, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (2009) is everything I watched from this sequel and I can't wait to see the finale of this trilogy.
Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous (2020)
What a genuine surprise!
After hearing about Jurassic World: Chaos Theory, I decided to watch Camp Cretaceous for the first time and I enjoyed all of it. This show is one of the most genuinely surprising experiences that I've had with a TV Show.
Positives for Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous (2020-2022):
The fact that this show is both an Animated Series and a Netflix Original Series is what makes the show so surprising for me. Yes, Netflix has had its fair share of phenomenal shows like Stranger Things, Cobra Kai, The Haunting on Hill House, Daredevil and Everything Sucks, they've also had some terrible series and movies like 13 Reasons Why, Insatiable, Resident Evil and Cleopatra, so I was extremely cautious going into this show and I'm so happy that I came out enjoying it. All of the characters are very enjoyable, likable and excellent character development throughout the series. And finally, I really appreciate that this is the first entry in the Jurassic Park Franchise where you genuinely care about what happens to some of the dinosaurs in this series.
Overall, if you haven't watched Camp Cretaceous (2020-2022) then you're depriving yourself from this show because this is one of the most fun TV Series on Netflix.
Night at the Museum (2006)
What a fun movie!
This was the first Shawn Levy movie that I watched back in 2006. I just finished rewatching it just for this review and it still holds up to this day. This movie was also my introduction to a lot of actors.
Positives for Night at the Museum (2006):
The premise is what helps this movie stand out so much, a museum where everything inside of it comes to life at night and the night watcher has to make sure that no one leaves the museum or else they'll turn into dust. The cast in this movie is another standout where this movie was my introduction to a lot of them like Paul Rudd, Dick Van Dyke, Mickey Rooney, Carla Gugino, Rami Malek, Owen Wilson and Ricky Gervais. I also really enjoyed both Ben Stiller as Larry Daley and Robin Williams as Theodore Roosevelt. Also, a lot of the humor works even to this day.
Negatives for Night at the Museum (2006):
The way how Dick Van Dyke, Mickey Rooney and Bill Cobbs become the villains is so bizarre and contrived that I still have a hard time believing it. Also, there are several subplots where they just feel half baked that if you took them out, you would literally have the same movie.
Overall, Night at the Museum (2006) was an enjoyable movie when I saw as a kid and it's still enjoyable as an adult.
The Pink Panther (2006)
Why Steve Martin why?
Back when I was a boy, I remember watching TV Spots of this movie coming out and in many ways, this was my introduction to both Shawn Levy and Steve Martin. This is also the first Pink Panther movie that I've watched. So, I decided to watch this movie an open-mind and judge it as a standalone movie. Well unfortunately, I did not like this movie at all.
Positives for The Pink Panther (2006):
The opening animated credits sequence was awesome and honestly I wish this movie was animated too. Also, Jason Statham is in this movie for a short amount of time. That's it for the positives.
Negatives for The Pink Panther (2006):
One of the main issues with this movie is unfortunately Steve Martin as Inspector Jacques Clouseau and that's upsetting for me because I'm a fan of Steve Martin, my favorite comedy movie of his is easily Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987). He's also proven that he can play a detective character with his role as Charles-Haden Savage in Only Murders in the Building, but here he feels horribly miscasted as Inspector Jacques Clouseau. First of all, his accent is very jarring, it doesn't feel like something that Steve Martin would do and it completely takes me out throughout the entirety of the movie. Also, Jacques Clouseau is an idiot in this movie and I don't understand why he's the lead inspector of the main crime investigation in this movie. I also didn't care about any of the side characters in this movie. And finally, the humor in this movie doesn't work at all throughout this movie and yes I understand that the previous Pink Panther movies are comedy movies and I have all the confidence in the world that I'll definitely enjoy those movies, but in here the humor is both very stupid and juvenile. There are certain points where some of the jokes feel like they belong in an animated movie and it would've worked, but in live-action NO!
Overall, The Pink Panther (2006) is just as bad as its reputation proceeds it and it's genuinely one of the worst remakes I've seen in my life and that's coming from someone who hasn't seen the original 1963 Peter Sellers Movie. And while it's not Shawn Levy's worst movie, it's still a huge stain in his filmography.
Cheaper by the Dozen (2003)
Decent enough movie with an enjoyable cast
This is the first Cheaper by the Dozen movie that I've watched and it was decent enough for what it was.
Positives for Cheaper by the Dozen (2003):
The thing that I enjoyed most about the cast of actors in the movie. You have a lot of recognizable people in this movie, where you have well established veterans like Steve Martin, Bonnie Hunt and Alan Ruck down to then rising stars like Tom Welling, Hilary Duff, Piper Perabo, Alyson Stoner and even Jared Padalecki in a small role. Everyone in the cast plays their character very well, although there's a lot of good and bad that comes with that. And finally, I really enjoyed the way this movie ends and how the family is brought together.
Negatives for Cheaper by the Dozen (2003):
There are way too many characters for this movie and yes I understand that's the nature of this movie, but still there's too many characters to keep track of throughout the runtime. Also, a lot of the family members are either very annoying or really unlikable. The only characters I liked in this movie were Bonnie Hunt, Piper Perabo and the kid who plays Mark. The main issue with this movie is simply the writing for a lot of these characters. In one scene, you'll see Tom Welling being angry at Steve Martin and then in his next scene, he's apologizing to Steve Martin for being a dick, but it only happening because the movie is almost over. The writing in this movie is very sloppy with these characters and it really annoyed me.
Overall, of you like a lot of the actors in Cheaper by the Dozen (2003), then you'll definitely enjoy this movie. At the same time, the writing for a lot of these characters really got on my nerves.
Big Fat Liar (2002)
What an enjoyable comedy movie!
For a first time watch, Big Fat Liar (2002) is one of the best comedy movies that I've seen in a while and one of the best movies in Shawn Levy's filmography.
Positives for Big Fat Liar (2002):
The movie's premise is one of the most ludicrous things that I've ever seen put onto screen and yet somehow Shawn Levy manages to take that premise and make it work. One of the best things going for this movie is the cast where you have a lot of recognizable people from well respected actors like Paul Giamatti to them rising stars like Frankie Muniz and Amanda Bynes, you even have Jaleel White and John Cho in there. Frankie Muniz and Amanda Bynes are one of the best comedic duos that I've seen in any comedy movie, they are firing on all cylinders with their comedic chemistry. Paul Giamatti is one of the most despicable villains in any movie that I've watched and yet he's also one of the funny characters in any movie that I've watched. Even the side characters like Frank Jackson and Monty Kirkham are enjoyable. All of the comedic situations that happen to Paul Giamatti are funny. And finally, the third act is one of the most enjoyable and satisfying final a TS in any movie that I've watched in my life.
Negatives for Big Fat Liar (2002):
Like I said in my positives, this movie's premise is one of the most ludicrous things ever put on screen and it requires a lot of suspension of disbelief to get into this movie.
Overall, Big Fat Liar (2002) is a comedy classic from start to finish and it's one of the best comedy movies that I've ever watched in my life.
Jett Jackson: The Movie (2001)
Phenomenal Disney Channel Original Movie
First of all let me get this out of the way, I have never watched The Famous Jett Jackson on Disney Channel. This is going to be a review that is focused on how this movie works as a standalone movie without having watched the series and after watching this movie, I'm definitely going to watch The Famous Jett Jackson, because this movie was phenomenal and that's saying a lot given this is a Disney Channel Original Movie.
Positives for Jett Jackson: The Movie (2001):
The thing that I'll remember this movie for is the story. You have this kid in high school who is very famous thanks to the TV Show that he works, but at the same time, it's caused him to miss a lot of important events that you can only experience once as a kid, so he's considered leaving the show to focus on having a life only to swap places the fictional character that he portrays onscreen and stuff goes down in both worlds. At the center of that plot is a phenomenal performance by the late Lee Thompson Young as both Jett Jackson and Silverstone. He manages to play both these characters off very well. All of the side characters from both worlds are very entertaining and enjoyable in many ways. I also really the journeys these two characters go throughout the runtime and I like how their journeys wrap up by the end.
Negatives for Jett Jackson: The Movie (2001):
This is a TV Movie from the early 2000s, so there are certain effects that don't age very well. Also, this is a Disney Channel Original Movie, so it's basically made for kids and there are time where you have to accept that.
Overall, As someone who's never watched the show that this movie is based on, I highly enjoyed Jett Jackson : The Movie (2001) and now it has given me the motivation to actually watching The Famous Jett Jackson.
Address Unknown (1997)
An interesting start to Shawn Levy's Filmography!
In anticipation for Deadpool & Wolverine, I've decided to watch the Filmography of Shawn Levy and I'll be starting off with Address Unknown (1997). This is one of those movies where I know nothing about it, so I watched it online and it was certainly interesting in many ways.
Positives for Address Unknown (1997):
I liked the mystery aspect of this movie surrounding the main kid character and the death of his father. There's also a bit of a fun aspect to certain scenes, but there are several scenes of tension throughout the runtime. I also really like the mystery behind this stamp and why our main characters and the villains are trying to obtain it.
Negatives for Address Unknown (1997):
The execution of the plot isn't done very well. There are certain performances that aren't the best and there are points throughout the runtime where I lost interest in the movie, but then again this was the first project that Shawn Levy directed and I can't really fault him for that.
Overall, Address Unknown (1997) is a interesting start to Shawn Levy's Filmography and I would recommend anyone who is a Shawn Levy fan to watch it, but go into it with mid expectations.
Beverly Hills Cop III (1994)
What happened to this movie?
Just finished watching Beverly Hills Cop III (1994) and throughout the runtime, I kept wondering why is this movie terrible and then I found the answer. This movie wasn't produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, so that should tell you something about this movie. Even Eddie Murphy has admitted that this is the weakest entry of the Beverly Hills Cop Trilogy.
Positives for Beverly Hills Cop III (1994):
Eddie Murphy is still good as Axel Foley in this movie. Also, John Saxon is going in this movie. That's it for the positives of this movie.
Negatives for Beverly Hills Cop III (1994):
Aside from the absence of Simpson and Bruckheimer from their producer roles, this movie was directed by John Landis, the director of The Blues Brothers (1980), An American Werewolf in London (1981) and Coming to America (1982). How is it that this man, who directed all of those movies, also directed this monstrosity. The movie starts off with the insighting incident of Axel Foley's boss, Inspector Douglas Todd, being killed at the beginning of the movie, which sets in motion the events of the movie. First of all why is this a big deal because we've never been able to grow any connection towards this character, so it's totally pointless. Also, the movie is set in an amusement park and yet somehow the movie makes that look boring. There's a scene where one of the rides gets jammed by the villains and there are two kids who somehow are able to hold on to one of the cars and not let go even though it takes a long time for Axel Foley to get to them. There are other things in this movie that I could crap on, but I'm done crapping on it.
Overall, Beverly Hills Cop III (1994) was a terrible sendoff for the Beverly Hills Cop Movies and Axel Foley. I hope that Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (2024) is better than this movie, but then again it's going to be released on Netflix so there's very little hope for that movie.
Beverly Hills Cop II (1987)
An underrated sequel to an 80s comedy classic
After watching this movie, I am baffled at the low ratings this movie has been receiving from critics because I find Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) to be very underrated comedy sequel and it's almost as good as the original.
Positives for Beverly Hills Cop II (1987):
Eddie Murphy is still awesome as Axel Foley in this movie. He's still firing on all cylinders with his comedic abilities. All of the side characters are still amazing. The action is shot and pulled off very well which isn't surprising given that Tony Scott directed the movie.
Negatives for Beverly Hills Cop II (1987):
Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) is basically the same as the original only without the freshness of the original.
Overall, Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) is a perfect follow-up to the original 1984 movie. This is one of those movies that I never heard anyone talking about and honestly it deserves more love and attention from people.
Beverly Hills Cop (1984)
The movie that launched Eddie Murphy's Career!
This was a first time watch for me and with the new Beverly Hills Cop movie coming out o Netflix, I decided to watch the three previous Beverly Hills Cop Movies. Beverly Hills Cop (1984) is an absolute comedy classic of the 80s.
Positives for Beverly Hills Cop (1984):
Let's get this out of the way, Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley is absolute comedy gold. Murphy's comedic timing and charm are on full display from start to finish. I also really enjoyed all of the side characters, whether it's the cops that Foley teams up with or it's Jenny Summers. Also, Jonathan Banks from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul is in this movie. The action in the movie is done very well and I appreciate that it's all done practically.
Overall, Beverly Hills Cop (1984) is a comedy classic for the ages and I understand completely why this movie launched Eddie Murphy's Career into international stardom.
Ultraman: Rising (2024)
WHAT A MOVIE!!!!!
I'm brand new to the Ultraman Movies so I haven't watched a lot of those movies, but I was definitely excited to watch this movie and after watching it, Ultraman: Rising (2024) is easily one of the best movies of 2024 so far.
Positives for Ultraman: Rising (2024):
The thing that I'll definitely remember this movie for is the theme of family. The them fo family started off slow, but once I got to a certain point in the story, this story hit me hard with a lot of emotion. I also really enjoyed the journey of the main character of Ultraman in this movie. When you first meet Ultraman, he starts off as a selfish punk but as soon as he meets a certain character, he starts to grow and change into a much better person and hero. I also really liked the villain and he's one of those villains who really isn't a villain, he just a normal guy who's lost a lot in his life and he just wants to protect the people from the Kaiju even if that means he has do some horrible things. You can sympathize with him and his motivations, but he also needs to be stopped at the same time. And finally, the action in this movie is absolutely phenomenal from start to finish.
Overall, Ultraman: Rising (2024) is easily one of the best movies that I've watched this and it's definitely one that I'll remember for years to come.
My Spy (2020)
Much better than I had anticipated!
Well I've finally arrived at the last movie on Pete Segal's Filmography before My Spy: The Eternal City (2024) and I got to say that this movie was way better than I thought it was going to be. On paper, this is a type of movie that I shouldn't be having fun watching, but I surprised had more fun with the movie.
Positives for My Spy (2020):
I really enjoyed the comedic chemistry between Batista and Chloe Coleman, they were amazing with each other. I can say the same time about both Batista and Kristen Schaal, it was both awesome and bizarre to see Batista teaming up with Mabel from Gravity Falls. The action in the movie is done very well. I'm so impressed how Peter Segal is able to utilize Wrestlers in his movies, which makes it the more obvious why he would go on to direct episodes of Heels.
Negatives for My Spy (2020):
The fact that Chloe Coleman's character of Sophie is able to blackmail Batista and Mabel is very strange with how it plays out, it is so ludicrous with how Sophie does it. Also, the romance between Batista and the mom character isn't the most compelling part of the movie, but it's fine for what it is.
Overall, My Spy (2020) is a genuinely fun time and I can't wait for the sequel next month.
Second Act (2018)
A very average comedy movie
For a comedy movie starring Jennifer Lopez, this was a lot better than I had anticipated, but at the same time, it's very average.
Positives for Second Act (2018):
The performances from the cast were decent for what they were given. Jennifer Lopez is a good enough lead for the movie. Also, the cast features a lot of familiar people like Vanessa Hudgens, Treat Williams and Leah Remini. And finally, Leah Remini was by far the most entertaining part of the movie and this is actually the first thing that I've seen her in, I still haven't watched King of Queens yet.
Negatives for Second Act (2018):
There is a plot in the movie where they reveal that Vanessa Hudgens' character is the daughter of J-Lo's character was odd and how it plays out wasn't the most interesting. They also try to create tension between the two characters, but it doesn't work because it feels rushed. Also, the liar revealed trope is very bland and boring. And finally, there are some comedic relief characters that were some of the most pointless comedic relief that I've seen in a long time.
Overall, Second Act (2018) is a very average comedy movie that gets the job done, but at the same time, it's one of those movies that I won't be in the rush to rewatch.
The Stepfather (1987)
37 Years Later, this is still a horror classic!
After watching this movie, I was left in shock. First of all, The Stepfather (1987) is a horror classic that has stood the test of time for 37 years. Secondly, how it that no one has been talking about this movie.
Positives for The Stepfather (1987):
The thing that this movie will always be remembered for is Terry O'Quinn's performance as The Stepfather. This guy is absolutely magnetic from start to finish and I understand why this guy eventually became a star with projects like The X-Files and Lost. He manages to balance both sides of the character perfectly. You believe as the father who wants to help his family and whenever troublr finds he turns into the crazy slasher killer. Also, Jill Schoelen is amazing as the main protagonist. Her character of Stephanie Maine is one of the most underrated protagonist and final girls of the horror genre and I'm genuinely shocked that no one talks about her. You actually feel bad for this woman when she having trouble with her new stepfather, losing a close friend to her, and you actually care about her when she's fights off The Stepfather. And finally, I loved how the way this movie ends and it was perfect.
Overall, The Stepfather (1987) is one of the most underrated horror classics of all time with a phenomenal performance by Terry O'Quinn as the main villain as well as one of the most underrated Final Girls in the horror genre. WATCH IT NOW!!!!!
Grudge Match (2013)
A lot better than its reputation proceeds it.
This was a first time watch and I've seen some negative reviews for this movie, so I kept an open mind. Now that I've watched the movie, I'm glad that I had an open mind because this movie is a lot better than what people make it out to be.
Positives for Grudge Match (2013):
The movie's premise is what had me invested throughout the runtime, Rocky Balboa vs. Jake LaMotta in a Grudge Boxing Match. The movie's comedy is done very well. I also really the storylines for both Stallone and De Niro in this movie and I every invested in what they were going through. Also, this is a movie that was paced very well, which is surprising given this movie is almost 2-Hour long. And finally, I really enjoyed how this movie wraps up by the end.
Negatives for Grudge Match (2013):
I only have one negative for this movie and that was Kevin Hart's character. He was a little bit annoying throughout the runtime and if you took him out of the movie, you would literally have the same movie.
Overall, l'm genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed Grudge Match (2013) and it's definitely my favorite Pete Segal Movie since Tommy Boy (1995).
Get Smart (2008)
A very enjoyable action comedy spy movie!
This movie was my introduction to Peter Segal, but I had only watched the TV spots where they constantly show scenea with Steve Carrell, Anne Hathaway and The Rock. Now, I've watched the movie and I really enjoyed it.
Positives for Get Smart (2008):
The comedic chemistry between Steve Carrell and Anne Hathaway is amazing, I really enjoyed their banter with each other. Also, it's pretty cool to see a movie with Michael Scott and The Rock together. Also, Terrence Stamp was a pretty good villain, no surprise given that this guy was General Zod in the first two Christopher Reeve Superman Movies. And finally, the comedy was pretty good for the most part.
Negatives for Get Smart (2008):
The movie is a bit too long and while I was able to get through the movie more so than with Nutty Professor II: The Klumps (2000) and The Longest Yard (2005), there's no reason for Peter Segal to make his movies this long.
Overall, it was very nice to see a good comedy movie by Peter Segal after a lot of tolerable to mediocre to awful ones and that was very welcoming to me.
Inside Out 2 (2024)
A worthy sequel to the original!
I love the original Inside Out from 2025 and when I heard they were doing a sequel, I understandably was worried cause it felt like Disney and Pixar wanted to milk out some cash with a well known IP. After watching the movie, I can say that I had nothing to worry about cause this movie was amazing.
Positives for Inside Out 2 (2024):
It was nice to see all of these characters back and see what shenanigans they were up to now. It was also nice to see the movie tackles the struggles and difficulties with becoming a teenager and all of the emotions that come with that age. I also liked a lot of the new emotions, with the exception of one, but I'll get to that later. And finally, I also liked exploring the inside of Riley's mind and what those places had in store for me.
Negatives for Inside Out 2 (2024):
I really didn't like the character of Anxiety in this movie. Now on one hand, I understand that this character is trying to help Riley prepare for the future, but at the same time, I felt that Anxiety went a little too far with changing Riley as a person.
Overall, Inside Out 2 (2024) is a perfect follow-up to the original and I highly recommend that you go watch, especially if you're a fan of that original movie.
The Longest Yard (2005)
Well, that was very mediocre!
Well this is the third Adam Sandler Happy Madison Production Comedy that I've watched and it was directed by Peter Segal. After watching this and the other two Happy Madison Production Comedies directed by Peter Segal, I'm starting to get annoyed that this guy is stuck with these movies, luckily this is the last time that he'll be directed an Adam Sandler Comedy.
Positives for The Longest Yard (2005):
This movie's plot is interesting, where you have this guy who makes family with his fellow prisoners through the sport of football. Also, the cast is amazing, where you have people like Chris Rock, Burt Reynolds, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kevin Nash, Bob Sapp, Oldberg, Tracy Morgan, William Fichtner, James Cromwell, Courtney Fox and the Great Khali. Seriously, how does Adam Sandler get all of these big names to be in his movies, it's kind of weird.
Negatives for The Longest Yard (2005):
For the third time in a row, this Adam Sandler Comedy is humor that is very hit or miss. The movie is way too long, because there were multiple times throughout the runtime where I was asking myself how much longer is this movie going to be. And finally, The Longest Yard (2005) is the movie that confirmed to me what other people have known for a long time and it's that these Happy Madison Production Movies are just a excuse for Adam Sandler to make movies with his friends and I don't have a problem with that, but my problem is that Adam Sandler isn't putting any effort into these movies cause it feels like at this point, he's just phoning it in for the paycheck and that hurts because Sandler has clearly shown that he can be a talented actor and comedian when he actually puts in the effort.
Overall, The Longest Yard (2005) was very mediocre from start to finish for me and despite an interesting premise for the movie, it feels like no one was putting any effort into actually making this a good movie.
