Pig Royalty (2021)
Easily the best reality show I've ever seen!
I don't say this lightly. I've watched a lot of reality shows. None, I mean absolutely none have had me shouting at the TV and thinking about it outside of it being on.
This show makes me do this. I care deeply about people, while also deeply disliking others. I didn't even know what pig showing was and now I feel like I have a good understanding of the sport and why it's so important to these people. Michelle and her mini me monsters (only her daughters, the rest of her team are extremely kind and empathetic) had me constantly gasping and shocked at how low these people will sink to. Nugget on the other hand is a highly intelligent kid who is stuck in the middle of this drama. He is definitely memorable!
Just the right amount of drama, and definitely triggers empathy in me. Incredible show. Just watch it!
When season 2 comes out I am going to savor every moment.
Willy's Wonderland (2021)
Please just watch it! It's honestly one of the most fun movies!
If you are familiar with a more stylized horror film with an 80s flair, synth, and comedy. Just watch this movie! An absolute rollercoaster of fun and gore!
Likeable characters, creative violence, and a completely wonderful movie. Fun from start to finish and I have to say it's even better than I thought it was gonna be! I'm sad it doesn't have a higher rating on here because people need to take it for what it is. It pulls off what it is so well and is easily the funniest and most entertaining movie of it's kind!
I am speechless and thoroughly entertained! I will be watching this again!
Plus freebird? You can't go wrong!
My Soul to Keep (2019)
Forgettable setup for a sequel
This movie was just okay. Not the worst I've ever seen. But I've got some definite issues with the writing and directing of shots on the 16 year old sister Emily, why on earth are we still doing the evil teenager sister because she's a teenage girl trope?
Ooh let's add a heavy helping of misogynistic dialogue from dad planting the 'all women are crazy' seed into his sons brain. He's gonna turn out great, he never needs punished. Even when they do punish him they let him break the rules repeatedly. I am getting heated now so let's get back on track.
This movie has absolutely no plot. It drags along giving us little bits of what they must have thought was story and deep insight as to why the hell this is happening. But it goes absolutely nowhere!
Oh! And this movie has a little christian flair too. Not an issue, it just felt out of place.
It had a completely gimicky ending just begging 'Please give me a sequel' along with a song that repeats nothing but something about it not being the end. But the lack luster quality totally spoiling the utter talent of our main trilogy of child actors proves to me that this doesn't deserve a sequel.
I can only hope that the Director and Writer (shocker it's the same guy) sees what he did wrong and corrects it.
If you like cliché character types and watching something determined to leave horror films dated and bland with sequel grabs that give marvel a run for their money, than this is for you!
And the Devil Makes Three (2016)
Where is the devil???
To break the tip of the iceberg I couldn't really hear hardly any dialogue in this film. As an avid bad film lover I'm used to this!
But the dialogue I did hear was typically our main dude saying something mean or degrading to our female lead.
I guess this film takes place in the 90s but the casette tapes are the only hint to that all and this setting benefits this film in no way shape or form.
The acting in this film I could forgive, but knowing they also wrote and directed it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Every single thing wrong with this movie could have been fixed easily. The writing was just plain weak, attempts at being artsy fell so so flat. This feels like a syfy original in a bad way.
Now the soundtrack... Random club music and synth, I'm constantly bombarded by sudden outbursts of pennywise style drone, emergency sirens??? And loud electropop with bass thumps. Nothing matches what's actually happening.
From start to finish this movie is truly awful. I was bored, me and my family had to crack jokes in the silence just to get through it. I want to think I'm gonna forget this movie, but I'm never gonna forget how bored I was.
The climax was one of the worst I've ever seen. And I've seen everything in the bottom 10 worst rated films on IMDb.
I redownload this app just to make sure I helped it to down with the greats like birdemic and fateful findings. But at least those were funny.
I wanted to be honest and fair when I gave this a shot with only 1 review that was bad. But it deserves the few reviews it has. Watch this movie, review it. Be honest. That's what I did.
Every film is worth watching at least once, but just be prepared and watch it with someone who can laugh with you. If you're here for entertainment, you're gonna have to make it entertaining yourself.
Hellier (2019)
Easily the best paranormal documentary I've ever seen
Honestly, watch this show! It's so great. The team are so down to earth and believable. I have no complaints about this show. It takes a different approach to paranormal research than I've ever seen.
Doom Patrol (2019)
The Perfect Adaptation
Bona to Vada!
Honestly, not enough can be said about this show, I love it. Initially I was concerned that the show wouldn't capture the feeling of Doom Patrol in the comics, but it did just that. I laughed, I cried, and I couldn't stop thinking about it, holding onto when the next episode would come out.
This is something I haven't done in years, that tells you they did something right.
This show handled some controversial topics, such as LGBTQ+ which as a member of the community, unlike others who reviewed this show, think they handled with dignity and grace.
I don't even know how to begin to explain how much I love Diane Guerrero's portrayal of Jane, she brought something to the character that I've never seen before. She was abrasive, funny, she broke my heart, and was so loveable at the same time. Exactly what Jane is in the comics. She was perfect, and I don't think anybody else could have played this role.
Brendan Fraser as Cliff is so close to my heart, I watched his movies growing up and he still to this day never fails to make me fall in love with him all over again. He was so perfect as Cliff that I can't help but read the comics with his voice in my head. Everything he brought to the character was perfection, potty mouth and all. Him and Diane have such great chemistry.
Riley Shanahan (the physical portrayal of Robotman) plays such a beautifully clumsy Cliff and I respect the fact he had to spend so much time in that costume. It wouldn't have been fun.
April Bowlby as Rita Farr is just amazing casting, she captured the old Hollywood actress vibes perfectly, but also brings a much more spunky Rita that I fell in love with in the silver age DP comics. She plays all of the insecurities of Rita so beautifully and her voice for the character is so charming. I fell in love with her within moments of seeing her, and honestly she far exceeded my expectations for a live action adaptation of Rita.
Matt Bomer is so charismatic as Larry, a character that otherwise is not very loveable. (I'm looking at you Silver Age)
The special FX for this character was really good, I thought they did everything very well with this character. Matt played a very gentle and frustrated Larry, still confused about what's happening inside of him. This is something they hardly touched on in the comics, so that was very interesting to see play out on the screen. Him and John Bowers relationship is so heartbreaking, I cried HARD when that old man and him pressed foreheads. I was overall a big baby when it came to Larry.
Alan Tudyk did really well with what he had, but honestly my problems with this show was the writing with Nobody, it was weird. Which it's supposed to be, but at times I felt like his zany antics took away from the show. (Kazoo and dancing was honestly just cringeworthy) maybe it was suppose to, in that case they did great. And the character design for nobody left me a little disappointed, I would have been just fine with a 2D looking almost Looney Tunes type nobody. But that's just me being picky.
Joivan Wade was the perfect Cyborg. Nuff said.
Here's where we get to my main issue with this show. Making Dorothy Spinner Niles Caulder's daughter. Dorothy's parents are supposed to have been back woodsy hicks who didn't prepare her for growing up, it's a big part of Dorothy's character in the comics that she doesn't know what her period is. It scares the living hell out of her and continues to affect her later on in the series even into the the Rachel Pollock run. I just don't know how they plan on making her like Dorothy without her upbringing being a bad one. But I guess we'll see how it plays out.
All that being said, I think this show is great. It's the best adaptation of a comic series to TV that I've ever seen and these actors being the first real portrayal of these characters will hold anyone who plays them in the future to a high standard. I will always compare future incarnations of the Doom Patrol to these amazing actors.
I can't wait for more! Seriously, I can't!
