Crazy on the Outside (2010)
It means well, has potential, but...
Tim Allen's directorial debut is very hit and miss...sadly, mostly miss. The movie needs a lot of editing and a completely different third act.
The film starts as an offbeat comedy...and even though there are no hardy belly laughs, there are a number of clever ideas and lines (many delivered by the under-appreciated JK Simmons). But with an all-star comic cast, you would think there would be more, ahem...comedy. Halfway through the film becomes more of a family drama. The humor totally disappears and the quirky oddball characters become normal. The third act is very cliché, generic and melodramatic. But all the performers give it their best---even players like Ray Liotta and Kelsey Grammar are playing parts that could have been done by anyone. And the film's one running gag is actually funny for a while, but it goes nowhere after the 100th mention.
The Office (2005)
Best network sitcom since Seinfeld
I am not going to sit here and ramble on about the show. But this show is simply amazing, and I'm glad to see it's ratings boost every season. I have seen the BBC version and even though it was great itself, I find the US characters more relatable and the humor a bit funnier. There are a few episodes that are weak, but for the most part, this show cracks me up. I don't remember the last time I laughed out loud at a show so many times. There are a lot of fans of the original on here who are bashing this Office. But I think it's because they watched the BBC version first and are very protective of it. It's like if you see any movie remade--and no matter how great it is, you still love the original more just because you've seen it before and loved it then, and it kind of hurts to see someone else try to do it, and are worried that it might be better. Again, I love the original but the US version makes me laugh more. You have to love Stanley, Phyllis and Creed for their one-liners!! How can you deny it? Well, I promised not to go on much further, even though it's hard...That's what she said.
Creature Comforts (2007)
Creature...Uncomfort
One question: Why? First off, the premise is not funny or engaging at all. They use taped interviews, and take the audio to animate ite with animals speaking the parts. First off, the interviews aren't funny or entertaining to begin with, and even if they were, I am sure they would be a lot more entertaining being viewed as they are originally, without being turned into cartoons. How does that add any hilarity to it? I turned on CBS's Monday night sitcom line-up, (which has become a regular way for me to relax after stressful Monday workdays) and found this on. Of course, the sitcom line-up would be reruns anyway, being summer, but seeing those episodes over again would have been more entertaining. I tried to give "CC" a chance. I really did. When it started, I figured, well, maybe it will be funny. Nope. And then it kept going. It was a long half hour.
And I can almost see if there was a purpose, if the interviews were shown in their entirety, and had points to them. But no, it was just one-line clips, cut and pasted together really quick. It was like a horrible dreadful version of Cartoon Network's "Robot Chicken." I wasn't a fan of CBS' now-cancelled sitcom "The Class." WHile that was on, it was one half-hour of the line-up I would struggle through. But if it came down to me deciding a whole season of that or three more episodes of "Creatures"....let's just say I'd take the "Class." Considering it's been a couple hours since it aired, and I come on here to see I am the first to comment...I guess that's a good sign that nobody watched it, and that it won't last much longer. Cartoon roadkill.
