Fantastica (2018)

This is really not an MMFF-worthy film.
18 November 2019
The Metro Manila Film Festival was really intended to be a festival of films that will showcase the films of our country to the world. But ever since the MMFF changed their criteria that focuses more on commercial appeal, things changed.

The film's storyline is really not MMFF-worthy. The casting was quite awful; some of their actors do not act well. The jokes are corny, unlike Vice Ganda's previous films from 2010-2015. The poster seems to be messy. The production ang costume design seems to be fine as well as the musical score.

Vice Ganda should also challenge himself to try making a film that would focus more on awards and not on box office.

I don't really recommend this film.

Love and acceptance.
28 October 2019
I watched this film last night because of the lead actors: Diether Ocampo, Claudine Barretto, and the late Rico Yan. Another reason for watching is its director, the late Wenn V. Deramas.

The film's direction was fine, knowing that this was the film directorial debut of Direk Wenn. The actors were also fine, but there were still some actors who act awkwardly.

The concept and plot was good. It gave us a message not to judge someone without knowing both sides of and to accept the past of the person you love.

One of the things I don't like about this film is that it is too "mainstream". There are some lines that are too "cheesy". But you know, that is the norm for Filipino movies in the 90s.

The cinematography, production design, and musical score were fine and acceptable.

Recommended. :)

Unforgettable (III) (2019)

A heart-warming, feel good film.

The storyline was interesting. It is also a new thing in the Philippine cinema to have a dog-related film. If I don't get wrong, this is the first Filipino film of its kind.

The cast was a powerful one. A good choice of actors.

The cinematography, musical score, production design, screenplay, and of course, the direction were brilliant.

Also, seeing Sarah Geronimo portraying a character with mental illness amazed me. She executed it excellently.

The film tackled 4 main things: animal welfare, mental illness awareness, respect to the senior citizens, and family.

The directors of the film, Perci Intalan and Jun Lana, are intelligent to come up with this film.

For me, I consider this film as one of 2019's best Filipino films.

A cute, feel-good film.

A feel-good movie.

The only problem is that the concept is cliché. But good thing, they played with the concept well.

The lead stars of the film, Maymay Entrata, and Edward Barber, were actually good in portraying the roles of Shine and Luke.

This is also Giselle Andres' directorial debut. Her direction was good.

The cinematography, musical score, and the screenplay was good.

The production design was very good.

A timeless Rom-Com film.

This film literally gave me "kilig feels" even though this film is already more than a decade. Surprisingly, the cast was a powerful one, and they executed very well telling the story to us, audience. The Rico Yan-Claudine Barretto tandem also had a great chemistry on-screen.

The film's production design was brilliant, it really matched the storyline; the musical score and the cinematography were also a good one.

It's just very sad to know that one of the film's lead, Rico Yan, died a month after this film was released. I could say, that this film is his best.

This is also one of the earliest films that used the romantic-comedy formula in the Philippine cinema. The film is also influential because this was used as a basis for the romantic-comedy films we have in the present time.

Olivia M. Lamasan's direction of this film was great. This is another addition to my favorite films of Olivia M. Lamasan.

The film is timeless. Highly recommended! :)

Another Filipino romantic film, but with a twist.
19 October 2019
Well... this movie is another type of a Filipino love story, but surprisingly, it had a twist. It is a love story about a hearing person and a deaf person.

It was actually a feel-good movie, there was no scene in the movie that I got bored at all. Another thing I liked in the film is that it was not only about romance, but it was also an awareness to the people to give kindness, courtesy, and respect to the P.W.D. community. I am actually happy, because it is not usual in the Philippine cinema to have a film storyline related to the P.W.D. Community.

I loved the film's cinematography, musical score, OSTs, and of course, the lead stars, Maine Mendoza, and Carlo Aquino.

It was my first time to watch a film directed by Prime Cruz, fortunately, his film, Isa Pa, With Feelings, was a thumbs up for me.

Highly recommended to everyone! :)

Humorous, witty, but heart-warming.
18 October 2019
Motherhood. It is the main topic tackled in the film, and for me, it was well-executed. They also executed very well on telling the story of a mother's hardships and sacrifices in life for her family to have a better future.

But seeing this kind of story-line in a comedy genre, well... it didn't fail to amaze me. Thankfully, the cast did well in cracking jokes that are humorous and witty.

The cinematography was good. The musical score was fine. The screenplay was good.

This is one of my favorite films by the late Wenn V. Deramas, the film director of this project.

A masterpiece.

This is one of the best Filipino films I've seen.

The movie made me impressed in many aspects: its storyline and concept; its screenplay; its cinematography; its musical score; its casting; and its direction.

It's realistic concept and set-up made me like the film.

Sharon Cuneta's best acting was seen in here.

This is also one of Olivia Lamasan's best works.

Fearlessly made.

The film shows a unique and different set of characters. It was also well-organized with discussing several societal issues like love, sex, children, and human rights issues.

The thing I loved in this film is that this work of art clearly reflects the reality of our society.

The film had a good musical score, cinematography, screenplay, and direction.

This is one of my favorite films of Vilma Santos.
