Midsommar (2019)
Stupid characters
Actually its 5 stars.
But with all those 10 stars givers, i hsve to act as a counterweight.
Scenery/Photograpy is good.
And in the first half i wondered where the story is heading at. But then i got really bored, cause there is no turn or whatsoever. It just flows like a really slow river and tension is gone.
The worst of all, are the characters. You dont feel to much sympathy for them to the point you dont care who dies. There is the point where normal people would try to leave the camp instantly. But they dont. Reason for that: i dont know.
Betonrausch (2020)
Jeez, what a mess
Once again a german production, that tries to hide it multiple, multiple flaws with some fancy locations and an electronical soundtrack.
Bad (cause no) character development, implausable storyline,...so superficial. Theres just so much unrealistic stuff in there that wouldnt work out in reality. Its not just at some points. Its starts right away like that and then its a sequence of "nah, i dont think so, director".
The main character is meant to be a guy that can sell you anything just with his smile and good looks. But he looks like a 20 year old babyface and lacks charisma. Accompanied by his shady lil gangsta looking partner (F. Lau, which i use to like) its a team i would never ever trust and spend my money on. He rents a penthouse in berlin with just a printed working contract, and the retail woman is like fallen in love instantly additionally. Yeah, that makes sense...
Just turn it on for 15 min and you know it. But better...dont turn it on.
The well known german actors must have been paid very good. Cause you can not read that script and think "oh yeah thats well written".
What a messed up Wannabe Wolf of Wallstreet. Its so bad that i - although i did not pay for it - felt angry... maybe cause i dont want to believe that anyone would finance that stuff voluntarily.
Gisaengchung (2019)
Dont believe the hype
Highly overrated.
I was really excited about that film. Now i am disappointed and wondering why people are so blown away by it. Its okay to watch on a sunday afternoon, but not more at all. I get that there is an underlying critical depiction of the korean two-class-society (that i as a middle class western can not really understand) but the storyline seems to far fetched and the behaviour and dialogue of the protagonists are not convincingly crafted. Maybe again, its the korean style, but nonetheless it wasnt convincing.
Actually i waited for it to end.
Wir sind die Welle (2019)
Bad Storytelling, flat characters
Wow, this one was really bad.
Gave it a try for 5 episodes. But the storytelling is not convincing at all. The protagonists are like a stereotypes-best-of. Which actually is a worst-of. There is this cool antifa-like-dude who instantly connects to the poshed girl, who changes her whole mind/life from one second to another. Then there is this farmer boy, who stands for hard working people and tradition that is eaten up by global capitalism. And there is also a turkish-german kind of guy so you can deal with racism-topics etc. Completed is the group with an emo-girl to catch those insecure teenage watchers i guess.
I think this series wants too much with too less effort. The character development of the protagonists happens so fast that you cant really call it a development. Its like "its off...oh no, now its on". The dynamics within the group is just as badly played out.
Another thing to mention is that these critical things, that are presented about the world today are dealt with very superficial. One topic comes up and in the next episode its gone in favor for another one. Okay, you could say it has to be, since it shows the still naive way of the teens looking at these things. But i dont know if that was the Intention of the director. And if it was, this is not crafted convincing either.
Overall it seems as if the director had been in a rush to put out a stylish series that deals with current topics with relatable characters for every misunderstood teen. Therefore it now lacks story and more than one-dimensional characters.
Really not recommended!
And really sorry for Peter Thorwarth. Youve done so much better work!!
