From Beyond (1986)
Turn off the Resonator!
Like Reanimator, this is another great Lovecraft gem that I find myself watching over and over again. A dream cast and wonderful sense of humour. Also has some wonderful slimy effects that keep me coming back for more!
Re-Animator (1985)
Get a job in a sideshow!
What more can be said about this 80s classic. A camp Lovecraft tale that is so entertaining to watch with horror legends Combs & Crampton. If you haven't seen it then you can't call yourself a horror fan.
Dagon (2001)
Love me some Lovecraft
As a big Lovecraft fan I used to love this film back in the day and was obsessed with stuff like this. Caught it again recently and it's still one of the best out there and combines Shadow over Innsmouth with Dagon splendidly. Lots of lovely practical effects beasties and that straight to video feel make this a recurring title on my watchlist.
Us (2019)
Twilight Zone for the modern era
This had me on the edge of my seat throughout. Give me great actors, a smart plot and some sci-fi intrigue and I'm yours. Had some issues with plot logic but otherwise another modern great horror that deserves to be seen.
Hereditary (2018)
Horrifying & Chilling
A rare Hollywood level horror that does things right. A chilling atmosphere, superb cast and great storyline come together to make a film you won't soon forget. Seek it out and show it to everyone you know, especially those who think mainstream horror is dead.
The Nun (2018)
Boring by the numbers Hollywood Horror
If you like predictable jump scares, characters making stupid decisions and nuns then you'll eat this up for sure. Not clever in any way and clearly made for dumb cinema audiences who think the pinnacle of horror is the Insidious movies.
Await Further Instructions (2018)
Fun Sci-fi Horror
Caught this one on Netflix UK and loved it. Starts slow but picks up dramatically towards the end. Has its faults but it should be much higher rated than it is. Clearly a lower budget film but it does great stuff with what it has. A good cast and the house location is used well. Reminded me of the video game SOMA crossed with The Thing. Worth watching for sure but certainly not for fans of fast paced action horror films.
Castle Freak (1995)
Underrated Gem
Had this on VHS back in the day and caught it again on Shudder. It's cheap and rough as hell but super fun to watch. Horny Dungeon monsters VS Barbra Crampton. What more do you want?
Battlefield Earth (2000)
Worth watching for Travolta
John Travolta as a 7 foot tall alien - what more do you need. Absolute bonkers and worth seeking out if you like trash.
Samurai Cop (1991)
RLM brought me here
Came here on the recommendation of RLM and was not disappointed. If you want trash to laugh at then you've got it right here! Grab some beers and laugh the night away.
Society (1989)
Undulating Flesh at its Best!
What more can be said about this movie! Fleshy, gross and sticky, it's got everything an 80s horror fan could want. Great effects and a proper gross out climax that will leave your skin crawling. See it if you haven't!
