Hazbin Hotel (2019)
A Pleasant Surprise
I'm generally not a fan of this style of animated show, and with a storyline based on heaven and hell, I honestly wasn't expecting to enjoy it. Boy, what a lovely surprise! A LGBT-positive and sex-positive show with a "wholesome" plotline and some wicked musical numbers interspersed? Yes, please!
The characters are interesting and engaging, with unique motivations that make it a fun departure from the usual heaven/hell stories. The humour and the voice cast are on-point. At first the musical aspects had me confused as to what kind of show I was watching, but shortly I realized how awesome the songs actually were, and confusion turned into a happy vibe waiting for the next lyrical masterpiece.
If you have an open mind interested in trying something special, give it a watch!
Arcane: League of Legends (2021)
I'm Speechless
I had never played LoL but this show is phenomenal. Beautiful effects and design, beautiful world-building, beautiful story-telling, compelling characters, beautifully done romance (and LGBT representation too!). It's hilarious, it's tender, it's sad, it's perfect. There's not a single flaw to this show other than I wish there was more episodes!
The Wilds (2020)
A crazy ride from start to finish
Love the way this show was put together and how things were revealed. Nice mixture of characters so there's an enjoyable "favourite" for everyone. Similar ideas have been done before but I like the all-female uniqueness of this one. Can't wait to see where it goes! Worth a watch for sure.
Happiest Season (2020)
My new favourite Christmas movie
It's about time there was a really good lesbian Christmas film! Quite a few original ideas in this story, and some really good topics brought up (Dan Levy and his words of wisdom!) that ended perfectly for a holiday film. Absolutely loved it. Laughed all the way through and was satisfied in the end. Highly recommend!
Stage Mother (2020)
A surprising success
I was not expecting this movie to be as good as it was. It was engaging and endearing throughout, funny without being tacky, and with good wholesome meaning throughout. Loved it. Highly recommend!
Motherland: Fort Salem: Witchbomb (2020)
Wow
Thrilling and overwhelming, and that cliffhanger! This episode sets this show up perfectly for the next season with some intense plot twists (although not out of left field - the show has been laying the hints for these twists all season if you look hard enough) and I am so ready to see what happens next!
Motherland: Fort Salem: Coup (2020)
Exhilarating
This show just delivers blow after blow! It strikes a match and your heart burns along with it. The action and disaster is just brewing and building in a beautifully orchestrated tale. I cannot sing high enough praise about this episode or this show in general.
Motherland: Fort Salem: Citydrop (2020)
So good you enjoy the pain
I feel like a masochist watching this show sometimes. It is so well-written and you feel every heartache so vividly, but you always want more of it - the pain is worth it. This was easily the best episode to date and was a major revelation point for the entire cast. Nobody made it out of this episode unscathed. Absolutely magnificent, between the emotions and the action. Brilliant.
Wynonna Earp (2016)
A Canadian achievement
At first, I was not convinced - the first episode was slow to engage me, and the second. But by the third, I was hooked, and now this show is one of my favourites of all time. Filmed in our beautiful province of Alberta, it has a feel to it unlike other shows I have seen. It's campy and fun, and wholesome, with likeable characters and a ton of humour. And also, probably the best portrayal of an LGBT relationship in the history of television - healthy, loving, supportive, and most importantly, alive! The cast and showrunner love their fans and are not afraid to show it and engage with them. They are so special and unique in the grand Hollywood scheme, that it makes you love the show even more to know the tightknit and intimidate group that bring it to the screen for us. If you like sci-fi and westerns, this combines both with a bunch of laughter, a compelling cast, and a phenomenal soundtrack!
