Slumdog Millionaire (2008)
Perfect in Every Way
I was going to give this movie 9 stars, simply because IMDb scores are always so bloated, but I really can't think of anything wrong with it, and I'm obliged to give it 10 stars. It's an optimistic, humorous, romantic and inspiring tale under grim circumstances, which sets an interesting mood for the movie. The pacing is perfect, there's not a moment when the audience is not engaged, the story kept rolling, but not lacking in those tender and quiet moments of character exploration. Every scene was full of energy, humor and passion, and the plot was seamlessly put together and everything happens in a way that really hits the spot for the audience. It's the best movie I've seen this year, and probably one of the best movies I've ever seen--I watch 1-2 movies per week on average.
A Moment with You (2006)
a touching story about youth, love and life
This is one of the few independent movies I've seen over the years that I'm actually willing to buy. It's yet another proof that you don't need a lot of money to make great movies. The creators of the movie obviously have put a lot of passion and real feelings into the movie to create something that's quite so honest and touching. It really speaks to young adults who are at a tender age that's full of love but easy to get hurt. It's a quiet movie, but not lacking in light hearted moments and energy of a young crew. I went to the Chicago screening of the movie, and it was very well worth the long drive and dead winter cold to see the movie. I enjoyed every second of the movie during the screening and wished that the dream like experience never ended.
La science des rêves (2006)
beautiful movie with fantastic characters
This movie contains some of the most beautiful and imaginative set design I've ever seen--as expected from Michel Gondry, except that he exceeds my expectations every time. The character portrayal is rich, unpretentious and full of playful moments. I personally consider the characters from this movie the most adorable ones I've seen in years. From the trailer and from the title, I thought it was going to be another Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. However, despite the distinctive Michel Gondry visual style, the viewing experience was completely different from Eternal and it left me with a very different feel overall. I'm extremely grateful that such a good movie was made.
