Tell Me Lies (2022)
The epitome of manipulation
I am still trying to wrap my mind around this show. I don't understand the bad reviews, honestly. The show is amazing from start to bottom. Acting, screenplay, music in the scenes, everything was perfectly done. And the twists. Oh my God these small, but yet so big twists and lies and manipulation and emotional abuse that was just floating through the air throughout the whole show since the beginning until the very end. There were hints about certain things in some scenes and then later, when you least expect it, something comes back and reminds you of it completely out of the blue.
But what was most compelling about the show was the manipulation and the way people are able to self-damage themselves by allowing others to abuse them emotionally, intentionally. All of these so called friends were lying to each other and having some sort of a secret to hide, but the way everything was connected at the same time was perfectly crafted by the director. I mean, don't expect some top notch pointless Hollywood action production with an endless budget, the focus here is completely different and it just wants to show how people, even with friends, are ready to manipulate without any conscience. Go watch the show immediately, you will not be disappointed.
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
TOM CRUISE !!!
I admire the skills and dedication of Tom Cruise. This man has proven to be golden and he never disappoints. The movie is absolutely perfect in every way - plot, twists, acting, script, soundtrack, cinematography. We waited far too long for this Mission Impossible, but it was well worth it.
The movie is a bit long, but since the opening scene you just dive into it and you forget about time. It keeps you on the edge until the very end and the action is top notch. This is what professionalism is all about and you can clearly see how much effort they put into everything.
Absolute perfection. Well done!
Ghosted (2023)
Huge disappointment
I am not even sure where to begin with.. I like Chris Evans and think he is a good actor, at least in most of his movies. However here, in this particular one, things are disastrous not just with him, but with everything.
The movie itself - bad cinematography, bad script, bad acting from pretty much everyone. The idea of the movie is ok, we have seen it before of course, but Chris Evans is just not the right one for this role. His acting was hidious and absurd. Ana de Armas is gourgeous and pretty, but still average.
The constant music throughout the movie was just awful and unnecessary.
Someone in another review compared this movie to Knight and Day. Excuse me? Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz? Their talents and class in this hilarious comedy with (as usual) amazing performances from both of them, compared to Ghosted? Never in a million years. So yeah, skip this one if you cherish your time.
Nope (2022)
I really wanted to like it, but...
So I've been waiting for this movie since I first read about it, which I think was more than a year, and I had great expectations as I enjoy to a certain extent the perspective on horror Jordan Peele has (Get out was a blast!).
However, this one was.. different. I can't say it's bad, I probably won't watch it ever again though. It was slow, dull, you keep expecting something scary to happen or for the atmosphere to get intense or creepy, but it just doesn't... On top of that, I didn't find the characters likeable at all. Watch it if you like this genre and Peele's work, but don't get your hopes up.
Day Shift (2022)
Very, very bad
This was one of the most absurd movies I have ever watched. Pointless, boring, bad screenplay, bad acting. And why is it necessary that every movie in which Snoop Dog is participating in, he has to smoke?? Ok, we get it, you love weed, but enough already? Despite everything I am a fan of Jamie Foxx and Karla Souza, so one point for each of them.
How to Get Away with Murder (2014)
One of a kind
I am trying to understand the bad reviews, but I can't. To begin with, this is a TV show, it does not have to be realistic, it does not have to follow the exact laws that actual lawyers follow, it does not necessarily have to have real life logic.
That being sad, once you give the show a chance, you will love it if you are a fan of good acting, good script and intense situations. Viola Davis is not amongst my favourite actresses, but she is amazing here. And her character is not an easy one to be portrayed, so she really does a great job.
The first season in my opinion is the weakest. After the second things become dark, more and more dramatic and intense. It just keeps you wanting to watch episode after episode because there is always something unexpected that happens, always a new twist.
So if you enjoy mysteries/thrillers/drama shows that also have a great cast/script/soundtrack, this one is for you. You won't regret it.
How to Get Away with Murder: Live. Live. Live. (2017)
One of the most powerful episodes
Not that there is a single bad episode of this show, but this particular one is my personal favourite. It's intense, well-scripted, well-acted, soundtrack is on point and everything is so perfectly put together that for 45 minutes you become a part of all the drama and action. Simply amazing.
Collateral (2004)
Amazing Tom Cruise
Very captivating thriller that holds your breath until the very end. There isn't a bad movie with Tom Cruise, Jamie Foxx was also great, I even liked Jada. Intense movie with a smart screenplay and great performances.
Interceptor (2022)
What did you expect?
I mean.. it's just an average action movie, don't get your hopes up. If you're looking for something to kill time on a Tuesday evening, go for it. But don't expect some serious screenplay or acting, because the idea of the movie is not that. Personally I watched it because I am a fan of Matthew Reilly and his books (which of course are way more captivating), but still I was aware that it's not going to be something memorable.
Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (2012)
Simply amazing
This reminds of Don't look up, however 10 times better. It's interesting and strange at the same time what different people would do in the likes of such an event. Some cry, others have fun or fix mistakes from the past. Nonetheless the movie manages to give a glimpse over all these things and shows a different perspective. Funny, but at the same time the drama does not hold back. And, of course, it does give some hope if you look at it from a certain angle.
Élite (2018)
Everything is on point
I am sorry but why all the hate? With each season it gets better and better.. After all it is a tv show, so what does "it is not realistic" mean? What exactly do you expect it to be? Characters - likeable; plot - interesting; soundtrack - excellent. I do however find some similarities with Euphoria, which of course is not a bad thing, but come on.. the show is awesome.
The Adam Project (2022)
Very enjoyable
The movie is funny, it keeps your attention, the chemistry between the actors is good and the story is interesting. This was actually the first movie in which I liked Jennifer Garner. Good choice for a Sunday night.
Only You (1994)
A great feel-good movie
I don't understand the bad reviews, seriously? The acting is good, the idea, the locations, Marisa Tomei is beautiful. It's a very "light" romantic comedy that just makes you forget about everything for an hour and a half. If you enjoyed it, make sure you watch French Kiss with Meg Ryan, you will like it too.
Old (2021)
No
Good idea, bad execution, bad script, bad acting. I believe the only good movie this director has ever made is Signs. Nothing more to add. I am glad I did not pay real money to watch this and waited.
Unstoppable (2010)
Mediocre at most
I like both of them as actors, but I am not sure why they agreed to do this movie. It tries to present an intense action, but actually it is a little boring and it does not keep you on edge, at least not me. Overall predictable, especially with the woman/girlfriend/wife with whom the lead actor is usually separated/divorced/not talking, and suddenly she sees him on TV, she realizes what a hero he is, she then cries for whatever reasons, and at the end she rushes into his arms, even though she has a restraining order against him. Groundbreaking. Apart from that, you can watch it on a Sunday if you don't have anything else to do.
Carnage (2011)
Masterpiece.
This movie is not for the lovers ot high-budget productions, but for those who can appreciate the acting, because this is at the center here. All four of them give amazing performances with a great dose of humour, so this is recommended to anyone who enjoys the real acting.
9-1-1: Lone Star: The ATX-Files (2022)
One of the best episodes of the show
Hands down, for me this was one of the best episodes ever. Like a small, 40 minute mistery thriller, which ended before I even know it. Some pretty much impossible stuff, but at the same time possible.
Scream (1996)
A MASTERPIECE
The horror genre was redefined in 1996 with the birth of this movie. Cast - 10/10, idea - 10/10, execution - 10/10. It will always remain one of my all time favourites, never gets boring.
Freaky Friday (2003)
Hilarious!
A perfect comedy. I like both Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan and they give laughable performances. Very enjoyable movie and a great choice if you need some cheering up.
9-1-1: Lone Star (2020)
Why all the hate?
Obviously, this is a TV show, so it does not necessarily have to be 100% real.. Yes, it's not perfect, but the characters are likeable and it's fun to watch. I really enjoy shows like this that you just emerge in and loose track of time while watching it. What more do you want?
Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008)
What was this??
I am sorry, but what was this and why was it made? An hour and a half that I will never get back.. the performances of Scarlett, Rebecca and Javier are so so, but the bigger question here is WHY Penelope Cruz won an Oscar for this? She had like 10 minutes on screen, yelled a little and someone thought this was Oscar-worthy performance? Jesus...
Above all that, when you start watching the movie you expect something romantic, filled with great Spanish sceneries and so on.. but instead you will get a not so good script and mediocre performances from actors who are capable of more. Under the Tuscan sun, a similar movie, also a romantic comedy, is ten times better than this.
Scream (2022)
An all time classic
I am a very big fan of all the Scream movies and especially of the cast. So, naturally I had big expectations for this one and have been waiting to see it since they announced it in 2020.
And I am very, very pleased. The story obviously follows more the new characters, a.k.a. The younger generation, however they have perfectly managed to give life to the old characters as well - Sidney, Gale and Dewey, and in my opinion the three of them make the whole movie what it is. After all, without them this whole franchise is nothing. The script was very good, with some twists and humour and of course they gave Neve and Courteney their traditional sarcasm from the old movies, which we know so well.
This is a solid 10/10 for me, as is every other Scream movie. Not because they are flawless, but because they are classics, the characters are very likeable and because I can watch every single movie again and again, without getting bored, this one including.
Holidate (2020)
Nothing like the usual pointless Christmas movies
This movie was a breath of fresh air !! The acting was good, it was funny, not so cheesy and cliche like every other Christmas movie and generally very enjoyable to watch! I recommend.
Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin (2021)
What was this and WHY?
I watched this because I am a huge fan of the other movies, the chills I get everytime after watching one are unbelievable. But this movie? What is this and how does it fit the rest? It's extremely bad, with background music which completely moves the focus from "found footage" category movies. The paranormal here was very little, seems like they wanted to emphasize more on the story. No jumps, no scary moments, just plain stupid..
Emily in Paris (2020)
Why?
It is even hard to find words to describe how stupid this show is, but for some reason I keep watching it. I can't remember a single thing from season 1, of all the actors maybe 2 are likeable. I read somewhere that Lilly Collins is a terrible actress and since then this is the only thing i can relate her to. And what is happening with her clothes? Who dresses like that and why? If you want to waste time you will never get back - watch this.
