Hero's Homecoming
This Chinese animation production, created by the esteemed Shanghai Animation Film Studio, stands as one of the finest in recent years. Known for their illustrious history, the studio has crafted numerous masterpieces, including the renowned "Uproar in Heaven" (1964).
Following a similar format to "Love, Death, Robots," this production showcases a collection of classic and innovative stories rooted in Chinese culture, resonating deeply with Chinese audiences. The level of production quality and storytelling expertise is truly world-class. Notably, the second episode is presented in the captivating form of traditional Chinese ink paintings, adding a unique and artistic touch to the series.
San ti (2023)
Good work, but over rated
A production deserving of a 7 out of 10 rating.
The initial eight episodes leave much to be desired with poor pacing and content. It is possible that this can be attributed to the director, who has produced several unsuccessful dramas over the past 5 years, receiving ratings below 6 on Chinese platforms.
However, it is worth mentioning that the subsequent episodes show improvement in quality and remain faithful to the original material. Nevertheless, the overall rating still falls short of surpassing seven points. It is worth noting that the casting is good and many of the characters are well recreated. The casting of Netflix is generally considered controversial in the current public opinion, given that it is a Chinese writer's story, this aspect is understandable.
Additionally, it is worth noting the populist enthusiasm among a large number of Chinese 'viewers' who compare it to Netflix's work, which deviates from the original purpose of this science fiction production. These opinions appear to mirror the factional disputes depicted in the show, the audience argued like the plot of the book.
Credit goes to the author for the realistic portrayal of the societal dynamics within this world.
