The Green Knight (2021)
Two hours of directorial mother-issues
This is the worst movie of 2021 so far (late august). Its like watching maple syrup running down a tree...in the freezing winter.
How the director managed to get funding for two hours of counselling his mother issues through this "epic saga" is beyond me.
As for those who have given this a top rating; what were you smoking while you watched this movie, and where can we all get some...?
The Blacklist: The Protean (No. 36) (2021)
Red, the enigma, and Keen, the anchor thats drowning this show.
I simply cannot comprehend all the reviews defending Keens character. For the first couple of seasons, sure, her character made sense, and even brought some needed balance to Reds character. As James Spader easily overshadows everyone in the show. And as a fairly new actress (compared to whom she was matched up against), her lacking in the emotional scenes were...overlooked. But as the storyline evolved, and the plots, well, swayed between insanely intelligent and insanely stupid, her flaws became more evident. The only character that has managed to hit every curveball is Red. Her monologues are stiff, without emotions. Just watch the scene with her in the back of the car, speaking to God about her dead sister. It made me cringe. I have no doubt Megan Boone is a better actress, but at this time it seems like even she has lost every bit of interest and belief in the scriptwriters, and hence, her character as well. And I know we are in the world of tv entertainment, and things are a bit...animated. But seriously, the idea that an entire FBI unit caves in every time a rogue agent calls them, an agent that has caused the death of several other agents, and civilians? The writers must be taking the audience for fools. As for Red, well, the utterly corny and silly scene at the bingo was just hilarious and brilliant. Time to wrap up this Keen-nonsense and find a new direction for the show.
The Blacklist: Anne (2021)
Red does not go gentle into that good night
...this episode was hugely entertaining, it also proves that Reddington alone is enough (with Dembe) to make this show worth the time. A warning though; next episode will showcase the return of Keen.. I intend to sit in my garden and watch the grass grow instead. No hate for the actor, her character has just long overstayed the show.
No Retreat No Surrender (1985)
Karate Kid, with better fights and worse acting
Yeah, yeah, I know, the acting is bad, the dialogues even worse...but...it was 1986, and well, if you were a teenager during the 80's, then this is definitely a must see. Even though the appearance of Bruce Lee's ghost is way to corny, this movie still has some charm to it. You won't find the meaning of life watching this, but if you remember breakdance, cassette players, martial arts movies with exaggerated sound, well...then bring your popcorn and enjoy 90 minutes of fun. OH, and before you start complaining about this being a "Karate Kid ripoff " ...the main characters in this movie can actually kick...
The Blacklist: The Cyranoid (No. 35) (2021)
Keen....again...why?
If it was possible to give this soccer field worth of manure scores below 1, it would be -10! (Yes, minus 10). I don't know if the braincells of the producers, writers and directors committed collective suicide, or if they have been sniffing Keens old socks. Either way, the only, and I repeat; the ONLY reason to watch this show is James Spader. Even that is getting tiring, because he has so little to work with.
Superman & Lois (2021)
Only for die hard arrowverse fans
The casting for first, Lois Lane and Superman has no chemistry whatsoever. Lois always talk to Clark like she is the most intelligent and knowledgeable person in the world, and Clark is a doodling toddler.
Tyler Hoechlin pulls of his part as Superman reasonably well. Elizabeth Tully on the other hand is overacting all the time.
And then there is the script...in the first episode Superman and Lois are told about someone with superpowers who is attacking nuclear plants. And Lois' answer is simply "we need you here more"...really? So Superman just caves and waits home til the next morning, because he has to go to the bank with Lois?? THE Superman decides to ignore a nuclear threat? Too weak and silly, even in the arrowverse.
Speaking of which, the only reason this show has such a high score must be thanks to all the teenagers who loved everything and everyone in the Arrowverse...or maybe if you are a hard-core DC fan. And the colour palette...when is someone in DC going to realise that there is nothing cool or new with that.
The CGI is good though.
I've loved DC Comics since I was a kid, but this is just not good enough to waste my time on.
The Rookie: True Crime (2021)
Why?
I have loved the show since the first episode. But this...I am having a hard time understanding this so-called artistic twist. Bad storyline and bad directing. Fast forwarded from 10 minutes in. Hopefully next episode will be back on track. This one; avoid.
The Blacklist: Ogden Greeley (No. 40) (2021)
Finally, back on track!
Yes, one of the best episodes so far. And yes, no Keen (credits only, hardly mentioned). Blacklist is once again about...The Blacklist!
The Blacklist: The Fribourg Confidence (No. 140) (2021)
DROP KEEN OR DROP THE SHOW!
Don't be fooled, even though Keen is not in the episode, everything in it is about her. Somehow her evil mastermind grows by the minute. Everyone else is running around sucking on their thumbs. Only thing missing now is that her daughter ends up like a certified MiniMe. As someone once said; we are not amused.
Walker (2021)
Entirely different concept
I was a fan of the original series, mainly because of Chuck Norris and the action sequences. The additional characters also contributed in a suitable manner. Yes, at times corny acting, but the weird combination of cowboys (and girls) and martial arts actually worked. This reboot has a tad better acting, but nothing else for action buffs.
It's like watching James Bond without gadgets, women, international travel, and a larger than life villain. With James admitted to a rehab clinic. Not exactly entertaining. And the sound...
To put it short; waste of time.
The Blacklist: Elizabeth Keen (No. 1) (2021)
Can it get any worse?
The level of stupidity of this script has reached its peak, or at least that's what I hope. The character of Liz Keen should have stayed dead after season 3. I have watched these last 4 episodes in ffw mode, but if this bulls**t with Elizabeth Keen continues, I will not waste any more of mye time on this show. An entire task force just sits down sobbing because of their attachment to one agent? An agent that so far has been directly responsible for the deaths of several other agents? Give me a break. I'd rather watch The Twilight Saga in slow mode than more of this. (And yes, I do consider watching the Twilight Saga as poking my eyes with needles)
