Il ragazzo invisibile: Seconda generazione (2018)
This movie is unratable.
This movie was a trip. I watched it years ago at Italian school. The previous lesson I missed, where the first movie in the saga was shown. Without the context, this spectacle of a movie challenged my strength, my sanity, and my humour. This film, had me on the floor. The stuff that goes down in the plot is absolutely wild. Watching without the subtitles just add to the whole experience. Some of the scenes, cliches and just general direction in general is something so extraterrestrial, it's hard to describe.
Honestly, it's worth a watch, simply because of how bad it is.
The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
Out of Balance (Short Review)
*Note, I rate films harsh. 5/10 is default. Stars are added and removed based on things it does right and wrong. *
This is one of the most ridiculous films I have ever witnessed. With two strong previous films, I had high hopes for this one.
Plot:
Batman lacks actual appearance in this film. The times he is in it, his character seems off. The ending was predictable (not the necessarily the events but the big "twist.")
The plot and story is all over the place. Its far too long and dwells in certain un-important areas. Its also quite forgettable; I saw a scene from the film a week later and couldn't even put my finger on where I saw it. Its also WAY too long.
Logic:
I suppose it is a superhero film, but this is flat out ridiculous. The film over explains certain points and completely rushes over other areas, hence creating a weird unbalance. There are also multiple points when people should defiantly die, and just don't for some reason. On the other hand, there are points where people should survive, and shatter upon impact.
Cinematography:
As per usual, the cinematography is good. Fight scenes are alright, yet much weaker than previous films. Its certainly solid when watching in a film in a dark room with surround sound, here it is an experience. Elsewhere there is not enough to redeem it.
I this film for a mindless action film in a cinema.
I don't recommend it as a great batman film.
The Lost Daughter (2021)
Fantastically Filmed Lots of Nothing. (Short review)
*Note I rate films very harsh, 5/10 is default. Additional/Removed stars are based on what is done well and poorly.
This film is certainly watchable and to some extent enjoyable; the performances, shots and scenes are all done in a creative way. The theme of the doll is strong through the film.
However, the issue lines with the story. It is presented as realistic and solemn despite being, if you think about it, overtly dramatic. At first you might think the scenario could happen, yet I assume most people would wince and think "really?"
The film is also far too long for it's material. Its also quite easy to notice that the plot of the film has been adapted from a book. Its quite slow paced which is relaxing but can be frustrating.
I would recommend this film if you like seeing well shot scenes. I do not recommend it for the plot however, while I acknowledge the source material may be good.
22 Jump Street (2014)
Cheap, boringly shot, bad as a stand-alone film and a sequel.
This film is cheap in so many ways. I review based on quality of film rather than personal enjoyment (though there may be some bias) I will say, this is one film I really did not enjoy watching however. I will list some bellow:
1) It likes to reference itself way too much. Once or twice is tolerable, yet I'm not sure what it's going for here. The first movie is somewhat slapstick satire of high schools. This one is satire of itself? There is one stage we're they run through some statues and was like "why so expensive?" I don't mind this when done right, but it clashes so much with the plot. Either go all out, or don't at all. I also found the "posters" at the credits cringy and and a bit pretentious. It felt like "oh you can't criticise us because the whole movie is a dumb joke" when it's just dumb.
2) The plot is terrible. It just goes back to what it was critiquing in the first. I hated the collage aspect as it was used so poorly. I'm not saying characters have to be realistic, but they seem so Hollywood fake opposed to the first film, where they seem more exaggerated. I realise I am referring to the first film often, but I think it's more to compare standard. The film's plot is terrible as a stand-alone as well. Also this film goes off the idea that it is a sequel.
3) Shots are basic and boring as well as hahaha. There is nothing new or interesting here, it's trying to poke fun at cliche gags and stunts done in Hollywood by replicating them? It doesn't make sense. They seemed like things I have seen millions of times, done in a boring way. Not interesting shots etc.
4)Characters are boring. They also seem to have changed (main characters) for the worse. They seem cheaper and more average protagonists characters with basic conflict levels. The side characters are completely forgettable. Humidor is subjective, but this film was barren of "jokes" for what I could tell.
5)Its the same worse version of the first film with switched roles if you are wondering.
I have it 2 stars for the formula being done to a basic standard. It has a few ok scenes that I quickly forgot about. You can watch this movie, it is terrible, but it's unlikely you will self combust within the first 30 minutes. Tbh I'm being generous with this film, I'd rather just not be with the 1 star reviews as they tend to be emotionally influenced.
I do not recommend this film. The first film (21 jump street) is ok and I recommend it for some cheap laughs. (I don't see that as a bad thing btw)
Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016)
Why you must watch Hunt for the Wilderpeople
Never before have I watched a movie that is so memorable, enjoyable, comedic and contains the re-watch value that this one has.
It is a New-Zealand film with a tiny 2.5 mill budget. It goes to show that quality really doesn't require a big stack of Hollywood cash.
The acting is realistic, the scenery and camerawork is great from a technical level and the film has a satirical sense of humour; being semi self-conscious when something is too ridiculous to be true. Taika Watiti plays a cameo role in it, you will know what I mean when you watch it. The characters are likeable and the directing and choreography is well planned.
While story is quite simple, the way its been written makes each and every character have more personality and individuality than most "characters" from other high budget films.
It also has a realistic, well-thought-out and satisfying ending as well that left a good feeling in the stomach upon it ending. Overall, my main message is "WATCH THE FILM."
