My Grown-Up Christmas List (2022)
One of the most genuine and believable love stories I've ever viewed!
The acting in this film was superb from all involved. The writing and direction was fantastic as well. It is hard to beat a love story between an off-screen couple and understandably the chemistry between this real life couple and PDA was very convincing. I so enjoyed the movie and will watch it again and again. It was far more believable and authentic than your typical Hallmark movie. Kevin McGarry and Kayla Wallace shone in a movie that was surprising and original. It is not your typical Hallmark script. Loved the storytelling that the military and distance relationship brought to the screen.
Feeling Butterflies (2022)
Magical chemistry between the leads!
Kevin and Kayla, who are a couple in real life, were super convincing in this romantic movie. These two should be paired often as they are both talented actors and easy on the eyes as well. The child actress was fantastic and should be commended for her performance. It you are looking for a light hearted, feel good movie with fantastic acting, this romance movie is for you!
When Calls the Heart: In Like a Lion (2022)
Soap Valley here we come!!
Oh dear, things were worse than I expected. The acting from the lead couple seems forced at times. Their expressions seem too giggly and forced smiles. Lucas dropped character once when he called Fiona, Kayla. I just don't find it believable. I am very disappointed that the so called teased "love interest" for Nathan (Mei) is married. They seem to be doing their best to sully the character of Nathan and make him fall for and flirt with a married woman. This is so inappropriate. No wonder John Tinker (the writer) was worried that we would think the writing team was picking on Nathan. You are picking on Nathan. Any TN that did come back to see if they could still stomach the new season with E and L center stage, will be out again soon enough as Nathan's character gets picked on given heartbreak even more than season 8.
Find other shows to watch. This soap opera is nothing like the previously wonderful heart warming, period drama show it was from seasons 1-7.
When Calls the Heart: The Kiss (2021)
When Breaks the Heart is what the episode should be called
Erin and Kevin's chemistry and amazing acting in the scenes they did together were fantastic and I believe it was the hope of their thriving relationship that led to such high ratings for this show. I was utterly convinced that Elizabeth was in love with Nathan and of course he was in love with her. I am not at all convinced from either the script or the acting that either Lucas or Elizabeth are truly in love. The epic love story that I tuned in to see develop was for Nathan and Elizabeth, and the blended family that would have led to so many great story lines.
I could barely watch the finale once and will never rewatch it. I will not be returning as a viewer for this series again as I can't bear to see Nathan not with Elizabeth (I immediately cancelled Amazon Prime Super Channel so won't be viewing other content from Hallmark either).
I sure hope the writers back peddle and end the Lucas and Elizabeth relationship early in the next season and have Elizabeth apologize for telling Nathan he was just a reminder of Jack. The writing for the finale was some of the worst writing I have ever seen, the acting of Chris and Erin during the kissing scenes (not to mention many episodes of dating) was not convincing at all and the script for the jail scene was cruel and cringe worthy. What a terrible, break-up.
Kevin is so very talented and I would not be surprised if he leaves the show now that he is not the leading man. I'm done with the show as I assume thousands of other viewers will be too (over 5000 team Nathan fans are posting similar plans). Sadly team Nathan fans were not allowed to be part of the main WCTH Facebook page as their comments were deleted and they were kicked off the page if they made any pro Nathan comments (so it was a team Lucas Page, in disguise and thus we had our own Team Nathan page). If an about face is not made, I expect season 9 will be the last season for When Calls the Heart. I will not be manipulated for ratings again like we were in season 8.
