No Such Thing As Monsters (2019)
Ok to a point
I thought some of the reviews were a bit harsh at first, allowing for the low budget nature for the1st three quarters. Routine kidnap semi horror, would end nicely with the goodies riding off into the sunset.
But what on earth was going on at the end. Absolutely inexplicable actions, inexplicable people.
Why was the guy always madly chopping wood? Did the demented mother figure get shot, I missed that? Why did Mary attack Amy? Why was Amy allowed so much freedom within the mad group? Who was the old guy and what did Amy say to that baby - couldn't really hear or comprehend?
Apart from that, fine, and one assumes the good family lived happily ever after!
The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane (1976)
Really good
I'd forgotten how good Jodie Foster was as a grown up child star. Simple film but well worth a watch.
With a very small cast but an impeccable Foster, possibly the 70s muzak is the only unavoidable drawback.
Flashback (2021)
Not good
I read the other reviews with interest. Whilst the protagonist makes valiant efforts the plot is a shocker. How much does it take to realise that you aren't in Kansas any more? How many times can you be given the same lesson, in largely similar situations?
Not good.
Table for One (1999)
Good and unpredictable
Well RdM really is a superb psychotic. The plot may not be entirely likely, but it is certainly unpredictable and unlikely things happen in real life.
I think some reviews are very uncharitable. Compared to some of the nonsense that finds it's way onto Prime this is really good.
One point - another reviewer said we don't find out what happens to those left behind, but wasn't the last shot about "finding the other half"?
I'd hate to think!
Lillith (2019)
Ok entertainment
Amazes me how some reviewers want every film to be a triple oscar winner. If you don't have much to do and want an amusing US comedy horror to watch, its ok.
The Voyeurs (2021)
Pretty good but...
I didn't think it deserved too much slating. Pretty good all in all. But as others have mentioned the last 10 minutes were a little out of context. It turned from a decent thriller into a part horror film. Notably Pippa, who had relentlessly displayed stupidity and poor judgment throughout, suddenly became a genius mastermind.
The Gentlemen (2019)
Brilliant
Brilliant film and brilliant performances notably Hugh Grant.
Takes a while to work out what's what, but then it has to as it's such a complex plot. But all falls into place beautifully and goodies and baddies all get their just deserts in the traditional way.
